The protagonists run into Jin Ling, who's out on a solo night-hunt.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Downplayed. When Wei Wuxian mocks Jin Ling for being a scaredy-cat, the latter's uncle retaliates against by calling for Fairy. While getting your pet to annoy a rival is harmless on its own, Jiang Cheng comes off as unnecessarily petty in this situation since he knows Wei Wuxian is cynophobic.
- Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Jin Ling denies that he's scared of anything, he immediately encounters a fierce corpse, causing him to scream and shrink back in fear. The cycle repeats when he beats up a bunch of creatures while again claiming to not be afraid of anything, only to accidentally hit his uncle and run away while scared out of his wit.
- Mythology Gag: The Soul-eating Peri from the Dafan Mountain incident in the original story note makes a cameo as one of Jin Ling's victims.
- No, You: When Wei Wuxian muses that Jin Ling's afraid of getting spanked by his uncle, the irritated teen clumsily retorts with, "You're afraid of being spanked!"
- Oh, Crap!:
- Wei Wuxian and Jin Ling realize that the latter is in deep trouble when Jiang Cheng catches him night-hunting even though he was told not to. What's worse is that he accidentally whacked his uncle on the head with his sword.
- Wei Wuxian looks horrified when he hears and sees Fairy and quickly starts screaming in fear afterward.
- Security Cling: Wei Wuxian climbs Lan Wangji the same way he would a tree when Jiang Cheng spooks him with Fairy.
