- Bound and Gagged: After Wei Wuxian gets Lan Wangji drunk by spiking his tea with wine, the latter retaliates by tying him up before falling asleep.
- Failure Montage: The entire episode follows Wei Wuxian's failed attempts to escape the Cloud Recesses no matter what tactic he executes.
- Ironic Echo: In the past, Wei Wuxian broke the Cloud Recesses rules via Loophole Abuse to avoid getting punished. This time, he breaks the rules in order to get punished and banished.
- Mythology Gag: Wei Wuxian breaking the rules to get kicked out of the Cloud Recesses resembles his novel counterpart trying to disgust Lan Wangji for the same reasons.
- No-Sell: All of Lan Wangji's reactions to Wei Wuxian annoying him by breaking the rules is just to calmly observe for a bit before simply freezing him.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Exploited. When Lan Wangji spots Wei Wuxian in the Cold Springs, the latter hastily claims that he wasn't there to peek at him even though it's obvious he was doing exactly that. He purposely let himself get caught and clumsily denied it specifically so that he would look more suspicious and finally get kicked out.
