Lan Xichen accompanies Lan Wangji as he mourns Wei Wuxian's death, although a sip of Emperor's Smile ends up turning a somber night into a lively one.

  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: Due to the series' Lighter and Softer tone compared to the original series, the episode softens Lan Wanji's drunken episode in response to Wei Wuxian's death. While he was overwhelmed with unbearable grief in the novel, here he and his brother go through a comedic montage of breaking the rules like Wei Wuxian did during his time in the Cloud Recesses.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: The Twin Jades go on a drunken rampage that blatantly breaks some of the clan rules, such as graffiting the walls and making a mess.
  • Continuity Nod: During their drunken shenanigans, Lan Wangji (and Lan Xichen) repeating all of Wei Wuxian's antics that he did throughout his stay at Cloud Recesses in this series — drinking alcohol, hunting and digging holes for ants.
  • Cool Big Bro: While Lan Xichen is already a cool and likeable older brother to Lan Wangji, he shows more open affection towards the latter when he's inebriated, happily and loudly expressing his support for him.
  • The Hyena: Downplayed. Lan Xichen giggles a lot when he's drunk.
  • Keet: Lan Xichen is shown to be a lot more upbeat and energetic when drunk.
  • Libation for the Dead: Implied. When Lan Wangji is about to drink, he thinks of the deceased Wei Wuxian and puts a cup of wine on the other side of the Cloud Recesses border, where the latter used to go to whenever he wanted to break the rules without technically being on the grounds.
  • Speak Ill of the Dead: Since this episode takes place some time after the First Siege, Lan Qiren angrily declaring that Wei Wuxian (who is dead at the time) is forbidden in the Cloud Recesses lacks any form of tact whatsoever.
  • Visual Pun: One of Lan Wangji's drunken escapades involves him digging an ant hole with Bichen, and Bichen means "to avoid dust" (dust as in "worldly matters").
