Lan Wangji recalls the various things Wei Wuxian told him before the latter left the Cloud Recesses.
- Butt-Monkey: Lan Xichen's stomach doesn't have the best time in this episode from digesting dodgy lotus seeds and spicy fruits.
- Failed a Spot Check: When Lan Wangji has Lan Xichen taste a lotus seed pod with the stem intact, the latter starts to feel ill and faints. This isn't due to the fact that lotus seeds are indigestible with the stem — it's because the pods that Lan Wangji brought with him were unripe.
- Giving Up the Ghost: Lan Xichen's soul leaves his body when he faints from consuming the (unripe) lotus seeds.
- Laser-Guided Karma: All of the "tips" Wei Wuxian gave to Lan Wangji as a way to mess with him end up coming to bite him, as the dog he was trying to sneak past wakes up and chases him.
- Literal-Minded: Wei Wuxian was actually mocking the Lan Clan's Plain Palate diet by retorting he'd rather eat fried watermelon rinds with chili. Lan Wangji just failed to catch the snark and so assumed the aforementioned "meal" was actually legit.
- Mythology Gag: The Twin Jades trying out Wei Wuxian's food "suggestions" is a reference to the "Lotus Seed Pod" novel extra, where Lan Wangji asked his brother about them during their joint training and later looked for fresh lotus pods so he could try them out.
- Plain Palate: The plain meals of the Lan Clan have clearly influenced their clansmen's (in)ability to handle stronger flavours, if Lan Xichen trying (and failing) to properly eat the chili watermelons and collapsing in pain from the spice is any indication.
- Product Placement: The Stinger has Wei Wuxian making drinks that resemble the sponsor Zhenguoli's milk drink products.
- The Stinger: A scene after the ending credits shows Wei Wuxian making Lan Wangji fruit milk drinks, which act as a Product Placement for the show's sponsor Zhenguoli.
