In general

  • Moveset Clone: They are only considered separate characters from a lore perspective, and even then, only some of them are even canon. In game, they're considered skins rather than champions, and thus play exactly the same as their base character.
  • Out of Focus: Since they're skins, rather than fully-fledged champions in their own right, they tend to not get much focus lore-wise beyond the bare minimum, and some being from alternate realities, they aren't necessarily canon in the first place. Averted notably by the Abyssal Lord and Pepper, who appear in sprays and have bene brought into the wider canon, while every other Echo has not.

    Abyssal Lord (Drogoz)

Faction: The Abyss

Species: Abyssal Entity

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/drogoz_abyssal_lord.png
Death comes for this world.
Voiced by Adin Rudd
"Look upon me and despair for I am the Abyss."

One of the Abyssal Lords. He was the antagonist during the 2018 "Rise of Furia" event, and initially was only ever available to purchase during this eventnote , until the "Emergence Community" update in 2023.

  • Arch-Enemy: With Furia, and has a few kill taunts directed towards her.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: His splash art has this going on. Averted in-game, as he notably never directly attacked during Rise of Furia, largely only watching the champions fight because it amused them.
  • The Cameo: He appears in the card art for Raum's Apocalypse card, marking his first canonical appearance in the wider lore of the game. He also makes appearances in the splash art for Soul-Stealer Furia and Demonette Maeve.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: His voice is some of the lowest in the game, being deep and booming.
  • Death from Above: Quotes the trope verbatim when using thrust.
  • Draco Lich: Changes Drogoz's jetpack into a proper pair of skeletal wings held together with scraps of sinew.
  • Kaiju: He's a large undead dragon. During Rise of Furia he was easily 50x larger than any champion in the game at that point.
  • Killed Off for Real: By all indications, he was killed by Furia in what can only be assumed to be a Curb-Stomp Battle.
  • Hitbox Dissonance: He is currently the only skin where his hitbox is larger than the main model he is based off of; this is due to the wings he has, which stretch out farther than Drogoz's.
  • Mighty Roar: His "Woohoo" voice line has him let out a gigantic roar.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: He's an Abyssal dragon, and one of the Lords of the Abyss. His fate is ambiguous at the end of "Rise of Furia", where he's shown to have been taken out by Furia, but later statements imply he may have survived.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: From what little time we see of him in the Abyss, he acts villainous, constantly threatens the various champions, as well as watches them fight for their lives.
  • Temporary Online Content: He was one of the games' first "Limited" tier of skins, and remained unpurchaseable outside of the event he debuted in for a little over five years. As mentioned above, the "Emergence Community" update in 2023 made him purchasable, again for a limited time, because the event was being re-run as a Limited Time Mode.
  • Villains Want Mercy: If you kill him as Furia, he will ask for mercy.
  • You Fool!: These are his dying words if you kill him.

    Pyre-Lord Magnus (Corvus)

Faction: The Pyre

Species: Pyre Entity within Human Vessel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paladins_new_pyre_lord_magnus.png
"So begins the adjudication."
Voiced by Christian Rummel

A servant of the Pyre who wants ensure complete balance in the Realm.

Pyre-Lord Magnus is available for Direct Purchase for 800 crystals and in several chests.

  • Balance Between Good and Evil: Constantly talks about the balance, and how he wants to tilt the balance in the Pyre's favor.
  • Comically Serious: He's almost completely serious, though he does have a few genuine jokes, all of them relating to balance, of course.
  • Foil: To Corvus. Both go to the equal extremes of their own opposite viewpoints. Magnus wants to preserve the balance of life and death in the Realm as it is by killing those who disrupt such balance, while Corvus is doing whatever he believes is necessary to end the war between the Magistrate and Resistance.
  • Good Is Not Nice: While he's overall nicer than Corvus, Magnus comes across as an aloof autocrat obsessed with "Balance". And whereas Corvus cares about his allies and his subjects beneath his bluster, Magnus only heals people because their "work is not done".
  • The Faceless: Shares a similar helmet design to that of Khan, but more ornate and heavenly. As with Khan, his face is in a permanent inky black shadow.
  • I Am the Noun: Magnus is the Balance apparently.
  • Power Echoes: His voice is very echo-ey. Considering he's some sort of deity warrior, this is to be expected.
  • The Paladin: As with Furia, he fits the traditional description of the trope; a holy knight using magic to harm and heal.
  • Verbal Tic: According to his voice pack page, he says the word "balance" 17 times, "life" twice, and "death" three times. He really likes being an adjudicator is what we're getting at.

    Mei (Zhin)

Faction: None

Species: Cosmic Entity

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paladins_mei.png
Voiced by ???

A cosmic entity from another world.
Mei and a recolor known as Nova Mei could be obtained via the Starforged Event Pass.

  • Action Girl: With Zhin as her base, she naturally fits as one.
  • Cleavage Window: It's not everyday Zhin gets changed into a female character.
  • Hot Goddess: She does clearly have some design choices made for her to look attractive, as well as being intended as a goddess.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Not as extreme as other characters, but her noticeable Cleavage Window and Painted-On Pants definitely fit her into this.
  • Painted-On Pants: The shape of her legs are very clear.
  • Star Power: Being a cosmic power, Mei naturally utilizes this kind of power.

    Remix Pepper (Pip)

Faction: Unknown

Species: Vulpin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paladins_pip_remix_pepper.png
"Let's get this party started!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/remix_pepper_cardart.png
As seen in Yagoraths' Deadly Pursuit Card Art.
Voiced by Jeannie Tirado

A purple and blue vulpin hailing from an Alternate Universe.

Pepper acts as a Distaff Counterpart to Pip, and was initially available as a Level 30 reward from Battle Pass 3, but was later made available in chests such as the Cute n' Cuddly Chest. She is a Vulpin from an Alternate Universe who shares all of Pip's abilities, but is female and more themed around Electronic Dance Music and videogames.

  • Alternate Universe: Pepper comes from one. Pip accidentally made a portal from Pepper's universe to the Realm while doing experiments in his workshop.
  • Alternate Self: Pepper is this for Pip, though to what degree isn't entirely clear, as certain statements tend to conflict with each other.
  • And Your Reward Is Clothes: She was initially unlocked at Level 30 of the "Remix" Battle Pass as a skin for Pip.
  • Awesome Backpack: Pepper has a traditional backpack that (presumably) stores Potions and such.
  • Background Music Override: Selecting her on Pip's skin select tab makes the music change to her own unique Electronic Dance Music track. This can also happen in-game when using certain abilities.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Peppers fur is blue and purple, and can be quite heroic if she heals you back up within a few seconds.
  • The Cameo:
    • Pip appears in Peppers splash art, which was done to reinforce the idea that Pip and Pepper are two separate characters lore-wise.
    • Pepper appears in the card art for "Deadly Pursuit", one of Yagoraths' cards, while running alongside Pip and Moji, solidifying her canonicity in the games' events even further. As can be seen above, she notably wears different clothing, looking more like an adventurer than a DJ.
  • Chiptune: Her sound effects associated with doing pretty much anything in a match are met with bursts of Chiptune.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Pepper is this for Pip. Among other things, they share a similar style of name; Pip, as in a fruit Pip, and Pepper, a spice you put on food.
  • Excuse Plot: Outside of "Hailing from an Alternate Universe that Pip created a portal to", the devs have not given players any real clue to any character-specific details in any outside media (card art or otherwise).
  • Foxy Vixen: Fits this in terms of design and in how she speaks.
  • Foil: To Pip in terms of personality. The former is mostly quiet and soft-spoken, the latter is loud and boisterous, Pips clothes are conservative and non-distinct, to the point that he looks bland without his Utility Belt or Badass Bandolier, Pepper wears flashing lights on her trinkets, backpack and shirt, and wears fairly revealing clothing like Short-shorts and a tied up crop-top.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Her appearance in Yagoraths' "Deadly Pursuit" card art has her wear a single glove on the right hand, but not on the left, similar to that of Maeve, who only has one sleeve on her jacket.
  • Furry Female Mane: Her pink/ purple hair counts as this.
  • Gamer Chick: Has shades of this in her voice lines, using gamer terms in her voice lines, such as referring to capping payloads as "stages", while buying an item has her quip "Power up!". Her potion launcher has Not-Pac man and a maze animation on it.
  • Jiggle Physics: Averted. Because she is based on Pip, Pepper's very prominent breasts, much like her hair, lack animations of any kind. This is due to Pip and Pepper sharing the same animations for everything, and maintaining two animation rigs would seem a little pointless development-wise.
  • Left the Background Music On: She has Electronic Dance Music as backing music to when you play a match. Parts of the music get louder and more amplified when using specific abilities.
  • Punny Name: Pepper is a pun on a type of seasoning, the "Cleocatra" spray is a pun on Cleopatra, and her 3D Spray "Witches Flight" is based on one of her match starting voicelines ("We're gonna take them for the ride of their lives!").
  • Musical Assassin: Pepper has Bar equalizers placed on her weapon and her clothing, similar to that of Raeve Maeve and the other Remix Skins.
  • Spicy Latina: Her voice pack and behavior in a nutshell, just take a listen.
  • Stripperiffic: Her design in-game essentially has her bra exposed, while a croptop seems to exaggerate it even more. Downplayed in her "Deadly Pursuit" look, as she's wearing a shirt, but retains the short shorts.
  • Utility Belt: Pepper wears one of these, having a portable Cassette player on her hip, and what appears to be glowsticks or blue vials of some kind in a bum bag.
  • Writing Around Trademarks Her iconography is quite clearly inspired by Pac-Man. Her gloves, her backpack, as well as her Gun show a green Pac-man with a metal mouth. Peppers' launcher also has a Pac-man-inspired maze on it that glows and plays an animation occasionally.

    Ripjaw (Buck)

Faction: Unknown

Species: Unknown

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/buck_ripjaw_bigger.png
"*sniffs* Mmm... Dinner is served."
Voiced by Anthony Ray Morales

A Shark Man version of Buck released as part of the Beach Bash Event Pass.

    Salt (Io)

Faction: Unknown

Species: Vulpin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/io_salt_bigger.png
"Time to have some fun!"

A DJ hailing from the same universe that Pepper comes from. Salt could be purchased via the Bounty Store if you owned the Dark Depths Event Pass during Patch 4.7 (Absolution). You can directly purchase her as well, get the skin via a chest, or pay bounty coins via the online Bounty Marketplace to obtain her.

  • Alternate Universe: Salt comes from the same one as Pepper does.
  • Art Evolution:
    • Comparing the first drawing of Salt to the one later used for her in-game look shows a number of differences:
      • Her design is much more cat-like, rather than being more fox-aligned in design.
      • The various rings, bangles, and pieces of jewelry were moved around.
      • Her glasses were removed, while her shorts were replaced with tight striped pants, and her torn shirt was replaced with a simpler green shirt featuring the logo of Evil Mojo, the game's developers.
      • The "Evil Mojo" Iconography was limited to a badge on her jacket in the first piece; the final design has Green as one of the color motifs, as well as parts of the logo being on her shoes and shirt.
    • Upon release onto the PTS, players praised her clothing and design, but her face seemed off, as players expected it to look tangentially like Io. The following day, Thunderbrush said that this would be fixed in a future PTS update, and three days after, a newer design was implemented (see above).
  • Ascended Meme: This entire skin basically exists because of this. Salt was drawn up in response by the lead artist; Thunderbrush, after players complained about Pepper being sexualised, as well as adding furry skins in general. Thunderbrush responded to a petition to remove the (extremely sexualised) Pepper death card, and claimed that they'd make a skin to go with Pepper if people continued to be "salty" about this. The interest from the community only increased from there...
  • Best Friend: To fellow Echo Character Pepper, with Salt possibly mentioning her when she mounts up.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Her voice is similar to Willo's, being rather squeaky and grating, yet also much like a voice one may expect to find in a Slice of Life anime; a style her voice actor, LilyPichu, is known for.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Much like Pepper, they are named after a type of seasoning, one that's usually paired up with Pepper on a dinner table. The naming convention also refers to player anger (saltiness).
  • Foil: To Pepper. Salt's voice is quite a lot more high-pitched than Pepper's is, and happy-go-lucky. She is also considerably more supportive than Pepper is too.
  • Funny Animal: Salt is an anthropomorphized Fox, much like Pepper and Pip are. Moji and Salt also share the same idle voice line when meeting Pip, by being amazed by how much fur they have.
  • Instrument of Murder: Her bow is modelled after a DJ's mixing table. It makes electronic humming sounds when Salt uses it.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is in the same line of Edible Theme Naming as Pip and Pepper, but is primarily named after "Salt-iness"; and is a Take That! towards the part of the playerbase that do not like furry-themed skins (even on characters that were designed to resemble animals to begin with).
  • Musical Assassin: Similar to the other Remix skins, Salt has her weapon be based on an instrument.
  • Punny Name: On top of the "Salt and Pepper" naming scheme, her name is a self-deprecating jab at the vocal hatedom for furry/fanservice skins, who'd be upset (salty) by Salt's mere existence.
  • Robot Dog: Her version of Luna has a robotic appearance.
  • The Runt at the End: The only non-recolor skin in the Absolution update that isn't themed after sea creatures. In the update trailer, she drowns because of this:
Announcer: Saati... Tyra... Salt? Wait, can she swim? [Cut to Salt Io's corpse lying on the ocean floor]
