The Anarch Coterie

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/new_york_by_night_4.PNG
Clockwise from top left: Isaac, Rey, Fuego, and Serif

A group of fledgling Anarch vampires, brought together by a mutual debt owed. The stars of season one.

  • Anti-Hero Team: Each of the fledglings has a dark side that they try and hide from each other.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Despite significant friction, by the final episode of Season 1 the fledglings seem to have decided to put aside their issues and, ah, embrace the benefits of having each other as allies and possibly even friends. Whether Rey is willing to give up his ambitions to defect back to the Camarilla is left ambiguous, though.
  • Healing Factor: By rousing their blood, each member of the coterie is able to heal their dead bodies, at the potential cost of their Horror Hunger increasing.
  • A House Divided: Despite a friendly initial meeting, the gang quickly runs into a number of major interpersonal issues, such as Isaac's use of ghouls and Serif's issues with the same, Fuego's cavalier attitude towards killing, and Rey's temper problems and attempt to defect to the Camarilla.

    Fuego Walker

Margot "Fuego" Walker

Played by: Aabria Iyengar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuegi_0.PNG
The soft sell is the easiest.

"And you come here, to the Bronx... very foolish, or very stupid?"

A former member of the Bronx's neighborhood council, Fuego is a Ventrue who is fiercely protective of the borough and the mortals in it.

  • Charm Person: As a Ventrue, Fuego has access to the Dominate and Presence Disciplines. She often uses Presence's Awe ability to make herself appear more personable.
  • The Chessmaster: Shows a burgeoning affinity for this; unsurprising, given her Clan. Unlike other Ventrue, Fuego prefers a ‘soft sell’ approach.
  • Color Motif: In episode 7's individual character vignettes, Fuego is represented by green.
  • The Face: Fuego often takes point in social situations, especially when dealing with mortals.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The compassionate, lively Sanguine.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Fuego attempts to be one; one of her Convictions, a core tenet of her character, is to protect the Bronx and the people who live there.
  • Hemo Erotic: Fuego is a Siren-type Predator, meaning that she seduces her prey and feeds during sex.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: As long as Fuego can make eye contact with someone, she can attempt to Dominate them into doing what she wants. Her tone is more convincing than authoritative when issuing commands this way.
  • I Hate You, Vampire Dad: Fuego has conflicted feelings towards her sire, Rafferty; she hates why he turned her, but she misses him deeply.
  • Lesbian Vampire: Actually of the Bisexual Vampire subtrope. Fuego has a mortal ex-boyfriend and shares a charged moment with Richter, but she has also shown interest in Bree and Simone.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Episode 7's character vignette shows Fuego having significant remorse over her earlier cold-blooded killings, and she calls on a mortal Morality Chain to help her hold on to her humanity.
  • Picky People Eater: As a Ventrue, her Bane restricts her to only feeding from a single type of human. In her case, it must be someone who is originally from The Bronx.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: with her "sister" Khalida. Fuego is compassionate and dedicated to other people, while Khalida hides her conniving nature under a pleasant smile.
  • The Beautiful Elite: Is a Siren Predator Type and a Ventrue Neonate, so it's a given.
  • Unknown Relative: Fuego has no idea that her sire has another childe, season two's Khalida.

    Isaac Brooke

Isaac Brooke

Played by: Alex Ward

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isaac_9.PNG
some caption text

"People don't like my clan."

A Tzimisce who owns the coterie's Domain, the brownstone in Port Morris.

  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: Isaac has been shown using the two-dot Protean power, Feral Weapons, to extend his fingernails into talons. He goes one step further in later episodes, when he acquires Vicissitude, first testing his newfound prowess on a Camarilla lapdog before developing proper forearm blades to subdue a local wight.
  • Affably Evil: Isaac is very polite, hospitable, and is always happy to provide the coterie with information.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Isaac doesn't seem much interested in conventional morality; he places great importance on politeness, duty, and acting rationally but is perfectly fine with brutal violence when the situation calls for it.
  • Book Dumb: In contrast to his wealth of knowledge of Kindred society, Isaac admits that he never quite finished his schooling and he is frequently bewildered by cultural and literary references others would consider obvious.
  • Color Motif: Isaac is represented by gold during his vignette in episode 7.
  • Cool Shades: Isaac almost always wears a pair of small, round sunglasses.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Isaac's prone to acting completely tranquil in emotionally charged situations, barely batting an eye when his teammates express their turmoil with the beast. Borders on * Innocently Insensitive, as he tends to be baffled at just how difficult the embrace was for his fellow Kindred.
  • Do Wrong, Right: His general attitude. By way of clearing up an earlier spat, he explains to Fuego that he doesn't care that she killed somebody; he cares that she killed them messily and without a plan for cleaning up after.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The calm, observant Phlegmatic.
  • Gangbangers: Isaac maintains his mortal ties with the Midnighters, one of the South Bronx’s gangs. His ghouls, Angela and Michael, are fellow members.
  • Hypnotic Gaze: If he can make eye contact, Isaac can attempt to Dominate someone. He uses a more authoritative tone when doing this, as opposed to Fuego.
  • I Love You, Vampire Son: Unlike every other member of the Bronx Coterie, whose relationships with their sires range from terrible (Fuego and Serif) to non-existent (Rey), Isaac is on very cordial terms with his sire Vaclav, who in turn is extremely proud of his choice in childe.
  • Lovecraftian Superpower: Though it's spoken of in roundabout way, Isaac claims to be unable to perform Clan Tzimisce’s trademark flesh-warping Vicissitude Discipline when he is confronted by Lizzie over his clan’s role with the Sabbat. He later spontaneously manifests this ability when threatening a Camarilla goon in episode 7.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Isaac resists Simone's attempts to Awe him with her Presence abilities.
  • Protection Racket: Isaac extorts blood from people this way, thus technically fulfilling his Consensualist predator type.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Isaac can use the Protean 1 power, Eyes of the Beast, which both lets him see in the dark and causes his eyes to glow red.
  • The Smart Guy: The most knowledgeable of the coterie about both wider Kindred society and the other supernatural inhabitants of the World of Darkness, though he’s quick to stress that most of what he knows he’s only heard as rumors.
  • Sticky Fingers: The Tzimisce clan compulsion is to take ownership of something, and Isaac has succumbed to it twice so far. The first was innocuous, stealing Drexler's briefcase, but the second lead to him taking the stake used by Adrian on Annabelle.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Isaac is usually polite and soft-spoken, but when he loses his temper he does so with very little warning.
  • True Companions: In contrast to many Kindred who view their ghouls as disposable servants, Isaac is very protective of Michael and Angela even against other members of the coterie, and in turn their loyalty to him is unshakeable.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Always seen wearing a different outfit each episode.

    Rey Malcolm

Reyes "Rey" Malcolm

Played by: Joey Rassool

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rey_2.PNG
some caption text

"Yeah, I'm sorry, I missed what you said earlier- did you want me to break his arm?"

A corporate Gangrel, Rey is constantly fighting against the animalistic nature of his Beast.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Starts developing this towards Serif, trying to get her to rein in her riskier impulses so she'll stop constantly risking her safety.
  • Clothing Damage: Rey trashes his suits so often that it becomes a Running Gag, and eventually he gets wise and starts removing his jacket whenever it looks like things are about to get dangerous.
  • Color Motif: Rey's color motif in his episode 7 vignette is purple, symbolizing his dubious allegiance with the coterie compared to his ambition for power.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The abrasive, driven Choleric.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Rey has the most trouble out of the coterie controlling his Beast, and it doesn't take much in the way of irritation to get him to start snapping at people.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Downplayed, as he is still a bloodsucking monster, but for all his anger and belligerence, he truly comes to care for the coterie.Even after his attempt to betray them for the Camarilla is revealed in the season one finale, he makes it clear that his decisions weren't out of personal hatred.
  • Must Have Nicotine: Rey's addiction in life was smoking; he's practically overjoyed (by his standards) when Julia teaches him that he can still smoke and enjoy the benefits of it in episode 7.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Rey has access to the Toughness Discipline, which increases the amount of physical punishment he can take.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Rey can use the Protean 1 power, Eyes of the Beast, which both lets him see in the dark and causes his eyes to glow red.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Rey is always dressed in a nice suit, regardless of how out of place it makes him look.
  • Spiked Blood: Rey is still addicted to nicotine, and will try to find a smoker to feed off of if he can.
  • Stealth Pun: Rey takes on shark features while in frenzy, making him a literal corporate shark.
  • Threatening Shark: Per the Gangrel clan curse of taking on animalistic features while frenzying, Rey grows a shark's dermal denticle scales on his arms and his mouth becomes full of razor sharp shark teeth.
  • Tragic Monster: Past life as a shady businessman notwithstanding, Rey is portrayed as being very close to his humanity, and constantly struggles with his inner beast. It's implied that his rage is a direct byproduct of this turmoil.
  • White-Collar Crime: Rey's background is in white-collar crime, seemingly focused in money laundering.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: The Camarilla booted Rey out of Manhattan for unclear reasons. He hates being stuck in the Bronx, which is his motivation for attempting to defect back to the Camarilla at the end of Season 1.

    Serif

Serif

Played by: Mayanna Berrin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/serif_6.PNG
*shooka shooka shooka*

"It's like I got two beasts inside me- there's the one that wants to feed, and there's the one that wants to tag. "

A Ravnos graffiti artist, Serif chases freedom and artistic expression under the shadow of her sire.

  • Accent Slip-Up: Serif has the most notable New York accent of the coterie, but in episode 8, her Bronx accent slips. She's originally from Manhattan.
  • Catchphrase: She quickly begins introducing herself to people as Serif, "like the font." When she doesn't say it herself, they ask her.
  • Color Motif: In her vignette in episode 7, Serif is represented by orange.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Serif's mortal mother is a ghoul, blood bound to the vampire who sired her.
  • Dreaming the Truth: Serif's daytime torpor included dreams of the Ravnos clan symbol before she even knew what Clan Ravnos was.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The stubborn, loyal Melancholic.
  • The Heart: Though she's far from perfect, Serif is generally the most conventionally moral of the coterie, and is also usually the one pushing for them to relate to each other not just as allies of convenience but as friends.
  • I Hate You, Vampire Dad: Serif visibly chafes when the topic of her sire, Argos, is brought up. Based on her comments in episode 8, Argos was also her father figure as she grew up.
  • In a Single Bound: Serif has access to the Potence ability Soaring Leap, allowing her to jump higher and faster than a human.
  • Kilroy Was Here: Serif is well known in the Bronx's tagger scene, and occasionally indulges in her urge to spray paint public property.
  • Master of Illusion: Serif can use her clan's signature Chimerstry ability to create illusions.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Serif" is her tagging alias. Her given name is Theodora.

The Camarilla Coterie

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/camcoterie.PNG
Progeny of the Ivory Tower. Clockwise from top left: Coco, Brawn, Khalida, and Kiếm.

A Camarilla-aligned coterie of fledglings and the stars of season two.

  • Color Motif: Contrasting the season one cast each having a representative color in their vignette episode, all four members of the Camarilla coterie's vignettes are lit in purple and gold.

    Brawn

Derek "Brawn" Brön

Played by: Xander Jeanneret

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brawn_3.PNG
"Seems pedantic."

A Nosferatu boxer who is constantly battling his own inner demons, and who is looking to prove himself in the Camarilla’s unforgiving hierarchy.

  • Apologetic Attacker: After the full extent of Rafferty's deviousness is revealed, Khalida mesmerizes Brawn to protect her sire as well as herself. He ends up coming to blows with both Coco and Glassjaw, all the while begging for them to run away and claiming he never wanted to hurt them
  • Armored Closet Gay: Downplayed in that while he isn't outwardly homophobic, Brawn definitely struggles with his orientation, and no doubt plays up his rugged, horrific exterior as a means to wall himself off from unwanted feelings. This insecurity in his masculinity is best shown in his trip to Club Crimson in Episode 6, where after embracing a male patron and being startled at just how comfortable it made him, Brawn snaps out of his reverie and demands his paramour to act scared instead of blissful
    • In his interaction with Simone, he confirms that he struggles a lot with self image, while she reassures him that the opinions of kine are beneath him.
Brawn: I'm coming to terms... with a lot of things inside of me...
Simone: Darling, there's no shame in it!
Brawn: No, I know, I know. I'm... Trying.
  • Book Dumb: Upon Rafferty assigning the Coterie a B grade on their first mission, he remarks that it was a "much better grade than he ever got in School"
  • Boxing Battler: In his mortal life he was a boxer. Downplayed in that he makes use of less-than-legal techniques and various wrestling moves moreso than genuine fisticuffs.
  • Dumb Muscle: Deconstructed. Brawn is quick to admit he isn't very smart and his combat prowess is undeniable, but his greatest desire is to be accepted for who he is as a person, rather than a blunt instrument. Xander Jeanneret confirms that Glassjaw (Brawn's sire) is grooming him into becoming the ultimate weapon of the city's Nosferatu, but whether he follows through with it or not is up in the air.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Downplayed, as he warms up pretty quickly, but upon first glance Brawn is extremely rough and ill-mannered with others. In actuality, he does care deeply about his Coterie mates and people who do right by him, such as Simone and his sire Glassjaw. He even offers to take the fall for Kiếm after the art gallery incident.
  • Looks Like Orlok: Clan Nosferatu's Bane. In particular, his disfigurement manifests as having a normal face on his right side, and a gnarled, mangled grimace on his left.
  • Meaningful Name: Makes an off-the-cuff remark in the first episode that "Brawn" refers to not only his physical prowess, but also is a play on his real surname (Brön)
  • Straight Gay: Admits to Simone that he is attracted to men, but doesn't display any overt camp mannerisms.
  • Token Good Teammate: The only member of the coterie with zero interest in sinking his fangs into the complex, ruthless politicking of the Camarilla, and a genuinely Nice Guy to boot, if a little rough around the edges. He's just happy to be here.
  • You Are a Credit to Your Race: Or rather, You Are A Credit To Your Clan. Brawn apparently hasn't had many cordial interactions with Toreador and thus is taken aback by Kiếm's lack of hostility, praising her for looking below the surface.

    Coco

Consuela Elena Ramona "Coco" Comprisi

Played by: Cynthia Marie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/coco.PNG
"I am a higher power"

Coco is a Lasombra who is discovering that her clan’s place, and her own unlife in New York, are anything but assured.

  • Byronic Hero: Coco may seem prickly to her coterie mates (especially Khalida), and detests her supernatural affliction ruining her ability to run a proper company, but she's a staunch supporter of the Masquerade and refuses to so much as think of feeding on live kine, preferring blood bags instead.
  • Casting a Shadow: Coco is able to manipulate shadows, courtesy of her Clan's usage of the Oblivion discipline.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While not exactly malicious, Coco's interactions are more often than not laced with sardonic venom.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Often slips into a Spanish accent when talking with her family members and sire; this is to represent conversations that, in-universe, are purely in Spanish.
  • Hopeless with Tech: As a Lasombra, this is supernaturally enforced, along with Missing Reflection.
  • One-Steve Limit: Subverted. A prominent member of Richter's coterie shares her given name of Consuela. This is actually partly a reason why the two hit it off after meeting for the first time.
  • Overly Long Name: Consuela Elena Ramona Comprisi. Or Coco for short (like the perfume, not the cereal).

    Kiếm

Kiếm

Played by: Michelle Nguyen Bradley

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fdefya1aaaahber.jpg
Drink, and be mine!

Kiếm is a Toreador who is trying to escape a past that refuses to let her go.

  • Abusive Parents: Much like her close friend Brawn, Kiếm was raised to be a weapon by a shadowy organization who only saw her as a means to an end. although in Kiếm's case, her father forced her to become a deadly assassin specializing in kindred, depriving her of any companionship or life outside of rigorous training.
  • Admiring the Abomination: Being a Toreador, Kiếm is prone to aesthetic fixation; in her case however, it tends toward the monstrous (Brawn's facial deformity) and downright bizarre (Lizzie's hair).
  • Artists Are Attractive: She is a hauntingly beautiful performance artist.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Kiếm does not disclose much of her history to her coterie; her character vignette in season two, episode five gives a peek at it, being locked away and forced to train as a hunter, and choosing to become Kindred in order to escape.
  • Mad Artist: Like most Toreador, Kiếm has an affinity for the arts. Only her art of choice happens to be extremely violent performance art incorporating human remains.
  • Meaningful Name: "Kiếm" is the Vietnamese word for 'sword', which are her preferred weapon type.
  • Odd Friendship: Toreador and Nosferatu are notoriously at odds throughout World of Darkness Canon, and yet Kiếm is the closest out of her Coterie mates to Brawn, and even actively rejects the stigma faced by many a Sewer Rat.
  • Sense Freak: Due to her isolated upbringing, Kiếm is constantly on the lookout for new sensory experiences, especially as they pertain to the human form. Most notable, at Club Crimson her first choice is to literally start rubbing shoulders with the Blood Dolls in employ.

    Khalida

Khalida

Played by: Noura Ibrahim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/khalida.PNG
"It is an honour to have me here"

Khalida is a Ventrue con artist who has ambitions to climb the Camarilla’s dangerously slippery political ladder.

  • Daddy's Girl: In a twisted, bloodbound way. Far from a prodigal daughter, Khalida is quick to jump to Rafferty's defense whenever his manipulations are brought to light, and resents her "sister" Fuego for abandoning him.
  • The Dragon: Where her true allegiance lies, to Rafferty in his conspiracy for power
  • I Love You, Vampire Son: Khalida has a good relationship with her sire, Rafferty.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With her "sister", Fuego. Khalida hides her ambitions with a charming smile, while Fuego is more genuinely personable and tries to suppress her ruthless side.
  • Team Mom: The most experienced of the coterie, being intimately acquainted with Kindred society through her sire. As such, Khalida tends to play the role of mother figure, although she isn't exactly genuine in her affections...

Bree is a Gangrel that the Anarch coterie encounters when they search the sublevels of the luxury high-rise being built in their territory. Her first appearance is in season one.

  • Elemental Shapeshifter: Bree can merge with soil, a mid-level use of the Protean discipline.
  • Familiar: Bree has a crow famulus, an animal ghoul she has blood-bonded to herself. His name is Toute-Suite, more commonly called by his Affectionate Nickname "Toots".
  • Lesbian Vampire: Bree shares a romantic moment with Fuego after the events in the parking garage go sideways.

    Cat Costello

Cat Costello

Played by: Shayne Easton

A member of Clan Hecata's Puttanesca bloodline, who warns the Anarch coterie of things to come.

  • The '50s: Cat’s Bettie Page bangs, red lips, and leopard print dress seem to take their cues from 1950s pin-up style.
  • Companion Cube: Frankie, a skull that she carries with her; played with in that it is a Fetter for one of her wraith servants.
  • Creepy Cemetery: Cat makes her domain in a family-run funeral home next to Woodlawn Cemetery, and as a vampire and necromancer, her very presence makes it this.
  • Necromancer: Clan Hecata’s hat. Via the Oblivion Discipline, Cat can communicate with spirits, and she has at least two named wraiths directly in her service.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Cat claims to study undeath. She gets very visibly excited, potentially even aroused, when asking the coterie to describe their final breath as a human.
  • The Other Darrin: Debuts as an NPC played by the storyteller, but in her second appearance she is a full guest player character. As revealed on the official cast interview show Club Auspex, Shayne created Cat on her own but entrusted Jason with introducing her to the coterie.

    Prince Hellene Panhard

Hellene Panhard

The Prince of New York City, she first appears in Season 2, Episode 7.

    Simone

Simone

Played by: Persephone Valentine

A member of the Ministry, frequent visitor to the Cage, and owner of Club Crimson.

  • Charm Person: Simone is a frequent user of the Presence Discipline, which makes others more amenable to her.
  • Hypnotic Eyes: Simone uses her clan's Serpentis power, Eyes of the Serpent, to hold a Nosferatu in place during his cage match against Rey.
  • Pet the Dog: Simone offers some genuine advice to Fuego on the virtues of freedom and control.
  • Sssssnake Talk: Simone's Beast speaks this way; unsurprising, given her clan's fondness for emulating serpents.
  • Vampires Own Nightclubs: Simone owns Club Crimson in Chelsea, which is an almost blatant Masquerade violation that manages to attract young, attractive clientele eager to be fed on by vampires.

Kindred of New York

    Julia

Julia Sowinski

A Lasombra fledgling and the protagonist of Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York. She first makes an appearance during Rey's meeting with the Camarilla in season one episode seven, and assumes a reoccurring role in season two.

See her entry for Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York

    Lizzie

Lizzie

A Malkavian artist and member of Richter's coterie, who provides her clan's traditional service of oracular insight to the Anarchs of the South Bronx

  • Clothing Damage: In a non-Fanservice context; Lizzie is always dressed in designer fashion that has been ripped to shreds.
  • Femme Fatalons: Lizzie has long, manicured nails, painted black and described as razor sharp.
  • Mad Oracle: Clan Malkavian's hat and Lizzie's function in Richter's operation. She knows what she sees during her visions, but doesn't know the words she says while experiencing them.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: While a different category of undead, Lizzie fits the aesthetic; she has long, dark hair that covers her face, with only one eye visible at any time.

    Rafferty

James Rafferty

The Sire of both Khalida and Fuego. A Kindred of Clan Ventrue and a member of the New Yorker Camarilla. He is also the one who has assembled the Camarilla coterie for an yet uncertain purpose. His mortal cover is as the owner of the Sterling Hotel.

  • Ambition Is Evil: Tries to climb the ladder of the Camarilla and is one of the more ruthless Kindred we have met so far.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: He owns the Sterling Hotel in Manhatten and is involved in all kinds of Real Estate dealings including the Crescent in the Bronx.
  • I Love You, Vampire Son: Both Fuego and Khalida seem close to infatuated with him. It is up in the air if it is a genuine feeling or the result of a Blood Bond.
  • Klingon Promotion: What he plans for the current Ventrue Primogen. He describes it as 'maximum retirement'.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Described as impeccably dressed and the owner of a major hotel.
  • More than Mind Control: In regards to his 'daughters'.
  • Vampires Are Rich: As is par for the course for Ventrue.

    Glassjaw

Glassjaw

Brawn's supportive sire and business partner, helping him run an underground boxing establishment. Part of the Coterie with Renato, Rafferty and formerly Amadeus

  • Beware the Silly Ones: Glassjaw is consistently lighthearted and jovial, never taking things too seriously and always cracking jokes in every scene he's featured in. However, when Brawn presses him for information on Amadeus' disappearance, Glassjaw flat-out admits he killed the Toreador in cold blood, his tone not shifting whatsoever
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: Plays the goofy Bunny-Ears Lawyer to Brawn's (relatively) more serious businessman approach in their illegal dealings.
  • Facial Horror: As a Nosferatu, Natch. In Glassjaw's case, his lower jaw is horrifically distended to the lower part of his chest. Brawn even wonders how he's able to feed with it.
