Yamaku Students

Students at Yamaku Academy or its associated elementary school.

Class of 2022

The original senior class, graduates of March 2022.

    Kuriko Hatsuhara
    Tiberius Hawke
    Sayuri Motozaki
A former kendo fighter who was left confined to a wheelchair after a massive growth spurt crippled her legs. Initially determined to walk again, she has since mellowed somewhat.

  • Career-Ending Injury: Suffered one in her backstory that forced her to give up kendo. She's not too happy about it.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Sayuri has had a number of mishaps with her wheelchair, most of which involve her falling out of it. Justified as she's not really used to being in it.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Internally, at least.
  • Determinator: Sayuri, at least in her early RPs, is determined to be able to walk again, to the point where she risks damaging her legs further by getting up out of her wheelchair and trying to walk.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: More or less her default state of mind.
  • Graduate from the Story: Downplayed. She won't be around as much, and her principal arc (coming to terms with and accepting her disability) is more or less over, but she will still be around.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Sayuri acts prim and proper, but you don't want to get her mad.
  • Statuesque Stunner: The effect is diminished by her wheelchair, but at six foot tall (which is huge by Japanese standards), she definitely qualifies.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: Sayuri is prone to doing this, albeit temporarily, by standing up out of her wheelchair. The weakness of her legs means she's unable to sustain it for more than a few moments, though.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Aspires to be one.
    Sumiko Nakagawa
    Setsuna Sequenze
    Ryuu Taketa
    Satoshi Veach

Class of 2023

The original junior class, graduates of March 2023.

    Izumi Inaba
    Wade Wilson, Jr.
The school's resident delinquent, who constantly involves everyone around him in his shenanigans. As the name would suggest, he's the son of a certain mercenary, and also the little brother of Inna and the uncle of Ellie. He's one of the first characters to appear on the forum.

  • Idiot Hero: Wade. Idiot? Check. Great at physical activities? Check. Always looking for a challenge? Check. Only gets angered if his friends are hurt? Check. The only real subversions are that he's (obviously) not the main character and that he's extremely perverted, or at least acts like it.
    • It has been heavily implied that it's all just an act to conceal his true sexuality.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Technically, Wade and Inna are not related – Inna is adopted, and Wade is, quite literally, a clone of his father. They lived in separate homes and their interactions were relatively rare... yet the two of them consider each other nothing less than siblings.
  • Mistaken for Gay: When reality shifted following the (off-screen) ending of the "Cybernetic Nightmare" arc, Wade and Eric suddenly found themselves stuck in the forest butt-naked, a la The Terminator. This fact, combined with some very poor choice of words on Wade's part, caused Chiharu to make that assumption. Ironically, she's not that far off, at least about Wade's sexuality.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: One of the most obvious examples, if not the most obvious.
  • Prince Charming Wannabe: Started out as one.
  • Took a Level in Badass - When Wade's body was taken over by his consciousness from a BadFuture, he found himself being able to easily dispatch of multiple armed thugs. As of the present, Future!Wade is gone, but his present self retains the muscle memory of his future incarnation's skills, so abilities-wise, the upgrade is a permanent one.
  • Transparent Closet - Everyone knows that Wade is gay. Except for Wade himself, of course.
    • According to some very suggestive letters Future!Wade left for his past self, Wade most likely harbors some very strong romantic feelings towards Chiharu. WordOfGod says that, while Wade is definitely gay, he's only straight for her.

Class of 2024

The original freshman class, seniors as of April 2023.

    Ian Akimoto
    Ichiko Asari
A cheerful girl who, as a child, lost an arm and an eye when a gas explosion ripped through her apartment building. She later obtained a cybernetic replacement arm thanks to CyberHeart.

  • Artificial Limbs: Has a skeletal bionic left arm after losing her real one in a gas explosion. It's played more realistically than most examples: she can't really lift anything heavy with it, has to maintain it regularly, and has had to have it upgraded regularly as her body continues to grow.
  • Cyborg: See Artificial Limbs.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Sports one over her missing left eye. It doesn't denote any particular badassery, but Ichiko thinks it looks cool.
  • Eye Scream: Implied in her backstory: her eye was taken out by debris that left a long scar running through her now-empty eye socket.
  • Genki Girl: At first. Downplayed somewhat after Nayumi's death.
  • Motor Mouth: Becomes this when upset, her speech speeding up to near-unintelligible levels until she finally runs out of breath and forces herself to try and calm down.
    Jimmy Cohen
A half-Australian, half-Japanese boy who tries to play himself off as a Lovable Jock, but cannot engage in sports due to his condition. He brings an oxygen tank with him at almost all times. He has major issues with his father, and is struggling with the trauma that led him to attend Yamaku.

  • I Am Not My Father: Jimmy is determined not to become like his father, although so far they have proved to be very different anyway.
  • You're Not My Father: While on the phone to Ray, Jimmy has the revelation that his stepfather has been far more of a father figure to him than his real dad. Jimmy proceeds to tell him this.
  • Parent with New Paramour: Both of Jimmy's parents have found love with other people, his mother with a devoted businessman named Hirokazu, and his father with an Australian model named Sophia.
  • Thicker Than Water: Jimmy has tried to get past his father, Ray's abandonment by trying to make him promise that he wouldn't do the same with Jimmy's newborn half-brother, Joseph.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Jimmy has a strong connection with his stepsister Ayuko. The two of them may as well be biologically related, as they never think of each other as less than siblings.
  • Nervous Wreck: This applies heavily to Jimmy's mother, who has some major neuroses. Sometimes this attitude gets to Jimmy and he reacts similarly. This is also cited as a large motivating factor in Ray leaving Jimmy and his mother.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Jimmy has been massively traumatised by the shooting at his previous school in Tokyo and the resulting death of his girlfriend.
  • Survivor Guilt: Also linked to Jimmy's trauma.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Jimmy, while not being particularly tall (just under 6'), is tanned and good-looking.
  • Career-Ending Injury: While not having any career to speak of, it was assumed that Jimmy would have gone on to be an athlete of some sort as he was never particularly academic. Now, he is unable to engage in much physical activity at all.
  • Mood-Swinger: Jimmy's mood can be brought down suddenly by the smallest reminder of his life before the trauma (e.g: his meeting with Ryuu in the courtyard).
    Yuka Hiyama
    Chiharu Kinai
A fairly intelligent girl with a unique condition involving over stimulation.

  • Hyper-Awareness: This is the main basis of her condition. Her mind processes stimuli much more thoroughly than most, often resulting in headaches when there's a lot of information to process.
  • Constantly Curious: While she does tend to ask questions often, her curiosity more often leads to personal research and investigation.
  • Renaissance Man: The combination of her general curiosity of a wide variety of things and being a fast learner sets her up to be this in the making.
  • Consummate Liar: She is an impulsive liar, and exceptionally good at it. So much so, that it is a common belief that she is a bad liar.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: One of the downsides of her condition is that many things can be uncomfortable, most notably shoes.
    Takumi Kobayashi
    Kaim Matsura
    Mizo Takameshi
    Sora Kimura

Class of 2025

Juniors as of April 2023.

    Toshiaki Endō
    Saki Ishimura
    Ryuu Ishitawa
    Jun Taira
    Kanjiro Watari
Kanjiro was born to a meth addict mother, and a father he knows nothing about. His mother was forced to give him up for adoption by social services, deeming her unfit to care for Kanjiro, but he was never adopted. Exposure to methamphetamines while still in the womb has caused him a great number of health issues: a heart condition which means that it takes far more work to pump blood around the body, severe scoliosis of the spine, and a brain haemorrhage. His main motivation is to make a connection with someone as he finds it incredibly difficult to communicate. He goes between manic and lucid states, a result of the brain haemorrhage. When lucid he is something of a Cloud Cuckoolander

  • Parental Abandonment: Kanjiro has no family to speak of, finding a temporary mother figure in one of the staff at the orphanage he grew up in, though she still kept him at arm's length.
  • No Social Skills: While Kanjiro is aware of what it is expected within normal social interactions, he finds it difficult to actually follow these norms due to his usually manic states.
  • Starving Student: The government grant that pays for Kanjiro's education gives him very little spending money, he has to carefully budget enough to get a bread roll and a drink from the vending machines.
  • Motor Mouth: When Kanjiro speaks in a manic state, he is usually speaking either rapidly or in broken sentences.
  • Talkative Loon: This somewhat applies to Kanjiro as he speaks a lot and at a rapid pace, however he doesn't usually go down the route of insane ramblings, instead just struggling with communication.
  • The Mad Hatter: Sometimes Kanjiro embraces his manic side, but he is usually more of a Reluctant Psycho although he isn't a psycho.
  • Empty Eyes: This is simply a part ingrained in his appearance, likely from the exposure to drugs he suffered while in his mother's womb. This hasn't stemmed from a huge trauma, but many people find this rather intimidating.
  • Mood-Swinger: This is the best way of looking at the interaction between Kanjiro's manic and lucid states.

Class of 2026

Freshmen as of April 2023.

Class of 2030

In sixth grade as of April 2023.

    Ellie Wilson
Inna's daughter, and also Wade's niece. As a result of an experiment when she was in the womb, Ellie was born completely blind. To make up for it, it was soon discovered that she's a Mensa-level genius who is able to absorb and use information at a vastly accelerated rate. At age 7 (her current age), she's able to speak five languages fluently and is studying in fifth grade.

  • Genius Cripple: Ellie Wilson, being incredibly gifted for a 6 year old. How gifted, exactly? At the time of her seventh birthday, she's preparing to go into fifth grade. At this rate, she's scheduled to graduate from high school before entering puberty. Which is even more impressive when one considers the fact that she was born completely blind.
  • Genki Girl: To a certain degree. Word of God reveals that she's actually way more mature than she lets on, but behaves like she perceives little kids should in order to avoid freaking people out.
  • Playing with Syringes: Her entire conception was the result of an experiment meant to alter children's DNA while in the womb. After impregnating her mother, the scientists subjected the fetus to radiation in order to change the color of her eyes. Obviously, it didn't work.

    Hideyo Masuda
    Inna Wilson
  • Cool Big Sis: Inna is this to Wade, as much as he hates to admit it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Where do we even begin with her? Her backstory is way too long to explain here, but suffice to say it involves the loss of her entire family, prostitution, paralysis from the neck down and suicide attempts. Thankfully, it got better.
