Main Racers
Johnny Turbine
Raised an orphan on a ranch in Montana, USA. Johnny Turbine describes himself as a true blue American Hero! Although he will carefully explain he's more of a fleshy-coloured American Hero. He has joined the Freaky Flyers race in order to get a multi-million dollar Hollywood Contract.
- Abhorrent Admirer: He's one to Traci Torpedoes, who rejects him at every opportunity.
- Americans Are Cowboys: He grew up herding cattle on a ranch in Montana.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: He ultimately does become a Hollywood star, but at the cost of being Andre LaToilette's sidekick.
- Equal-Opportunity Offender: He is a stereotypical caricature of Americans (similar to other characters of other nationalities), with the game developers being Americans themselves.
- Expy: Of Johnny Bravo, being a buff American with a blonde pompadour who acts as a Handsome Lech.
- Glory Seeker: Johnny wants to use the race to bring attention to himself in the hopes of becoming a movie star.
- Separated at Birth: Is actually Andre LaToilette's long lost twin brother.
Traci Torpedoes
An elite German Airforce pilot raised in the cockpit of a Fighter Plane who has joined the Freaky Flyers race to bring pride to the German Air Force.
- Alliterative Name: Traci Torpedoes.
- Artificial Human: She was created as part of a German super-soldier program, "Operation Female Bombshell".
- Buxom Beauty Standard: A major Dude Magnet due to her ample bust. Her breasts are further emphasized by the fact they bounce at her slightest movement and even make sounds as they do so.
- Dude Magnet: Has Johnny Turbine, Sheik Abdul, and to a lesser extent Sammy Wasabi all interested in her.
- Enemy Mine: A one-sided variant given Johnny's affection towards her, but Traci is willing to team up with him to get payback towards Sammy for his pranks on them.
- Everyone Has Standards: During a cutscene where Johnny is trying to give her gifts which she (literally) shoots down, she pauses when he presents her with a puppy... only to resume with the shooting when he explains is just a realistic stuffed animal.
- Germanic Efficiency: She entered the race to prove the superiority of the German Air Force.
- Indifferent Beauty: She doesn't really care about her appearance and is often annoyed that's all other people can focus on when around her, as she'd much rather be known as an Ace Pilot.
- Massive Numbered Siblings: Thanks to "Operation Female Bombshell", she has 100 identical sisters.
- Meaningful Name: "Torpedoes" is probably not in reference to weapons, but rather her breasts.
- Ms. Fanservice: Her huge breasts are often played for fanservice and she's often featured in promotional material, alongside fellow Ms. Fanservice Cactus Rose.
- Patriotic Fervor: She's extremely patriotic towards Germany and her entire motivation int to win to race to being glory to the German Air Force.
- Sexy Stewardess: Her Alternate Costume is a sexed up Stewardess costume.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: When the Narrator mentions in her intro that her origins are mysterious, she interrupts him to say that she's a normal person and not the product of a strange genetic experiment by the German Air Force. That said, she does gleefully refer to herself as a mutant freak after beating the Final Boss.
Myrna Bookbottom
A repressed English librarian who has dreamed of a life of adventure, seeing the Freaky Flyers race as her last chance to achieve that dream. The only glitch is when she gets angry, she transforms into her alter ego, Margaret Basher.
- Beware the Nice Ones: As friendly as she is, making her angry will cause her to switch into being Margaret Basher.
- Cute Bookworm: She's a kind librarian, after all.
- Jekyll & Hyde: The Jekyll to Margaret's Hyde.
- Nice Girl: Is very kind and pleasant, in stark contrast to Margaret.
- Prim and Proper Bun: Keeps her long hair tied up in a bun, to sell her "repressed librarian" persona.
- Split-Personality Takeover: Pilot X offers to rid Myrna of her Margaret persona, although he's lying about knowing how to do anything about that.
Margaret Basher
The yang to Myrna's ying, Margaret Basher is the cat-kicking alter ego that burns under the surface of the meek Myrna Bookbottom. Margaret would give her entire automated arms collection to get rid of Myrna.
- Blood Knight: As the inverse to Myrna's kindhearted nature, Margaret is brash and violent. She gladly helps out with Bandito Attack just for the sake of a good fight. Her ending even has her beating up the Queen of England.
- Jekyll & Hyde: The Hyde to Myrna's Jekyll.
- Letting Her Hair Down: She undoes Myrna's Prim and Proper Bun and lets her long hair down, giving her a more "wild" look.
- Loves My Alter Ego: While the chubby Morseau brother loves Myrna, the skinny one loves Margaret. It's mutual, since they get Happily Married in Myrna's ending.
- Punny Name: Her name is a play on Margaret Thatcher.
- Sexier Alter Ego: She wears skimpier clothing and acts more sexually aggressive than Myrna does.
- Split-Personality Takeover: Is offered this opportunity by Pilot X, who offers a similar deal to Myrna.
Mick Bungadoo
Hailing from Australia, Mick Bungadoo spent his younger years boxing Kangaroos...when he wasn't being beaten up by them. Now, as a successful restaurant entrepreneur who specializes in serving Road Kill, Mick has joined the Freaky Flyers race to advertise his restaurant chain. "Mick Bungadoo's Road-Kill Restaurant."
- Awesome Aussie: Easily one of the more impressive members of the cast, being a businessman with a Heroic Build who happens to be Australian.
- Berserk Button: According to the manual, don't get him started on Wallabies.
- I'm a Humanitarian: As Pilot X reveals, the secret sauce his restaurant uses is made from people.
- Shameless Self-Promoter: He entered the race to promote his restaurant chain, and hardly ever acts like he isn't shooting a commercial for it.
- Top-Heavy Guy: Muscular upper body, scrawny legs.
Paulie Atchi
Paulie Atchi is a legendary Mob Boss from Chicago who covers his crimes behind a Sanitation Engineering business. Paulie has entered in the Freaky Flyers race under recommendation of his mother, Mama Atchi, wanting her son to be recognized.
- Berserk Button: Despite fighting for control of his syndicate with her, insulting Paulie's mother will make him so furious, he'll be briefly out of commission with rage.
- Cigar Chomper: Spends most of the game with a lit cigar in his mouth.
- Mister Big: He's a mob boss and one of the shorter members of the cast.
- My Beloved Smother: His mother is also a partner in his business, and even more ruthless than he is.
- You Can Keep Her!: His reaction to Pilot X kidnapping his mother for the sake of a duel is this, telling X he just eliminated his biggest competition for control of his syndicate. Pilot X forces him into the duel anyway.
Andre LaToilette
An eccentric lumberjack inventor, Andre LaToilette lives in the woods of Canada, enslaving the squirrels who live in the forest and using them for ammunition. Andre has entered the Freaky Fliers race in search of his long lost twin-brother, believing it to be Johnny Turbine.
- Abnormal Ammo: He uses the squirrels he's enslaved as ammunition.
- Animals Hate Him: The enslaved squirrels make no secret of their distaste for him in his cutscenes, and outright rejoice when he permanently moves to Hollywood.
- Bamboo Technology: His plane is made entirely out of logs.
- Bearded Baby: A flashback to Andre's childhood shows him suddenly growing his full handlebar mustache as a baby.
- Gross-Up Close-Up: Is subject to one in Johnny's ending.
- Meaningful Name: LaToilette, as in "the toilet", reflecting his smelly nature.
- The Pig-Pen: Is noted for his horrible smell and refusal to bathe.
- Separated at Birth: He believes he and Johnny Turbine are twin brothers. He's right.
Sheik Abdul
Hailing from Saudi Arabia, Sheik Abdul is a gazillionaire Oil Tycoon (depending on that day's price of Oil) who runs the company "His & Harem Inc.", although the company is actually run by his enormous Harem.
- Abhorrent Admirer: Not to the same extent as Johnny, but he also has the hots for Traci Torpedoes, and she doesn't care for him one bit.
- Bad Job, Worse Uniform: His ending has him get kicked out of his company by his harem, and getting a job working for his camel Humpy at Humpy's Chicken Hut, where he's forced to wear a chicken uniform.
- Catchphrase: "Impudent Three-Legged Dog!" is his go-to insult, whether insulting the narrator for revealing his Harem runs his company, or under his breath to his wives.
- Henpecked Husband: His harem is the one calling the shots, not him. When Pilot X challenges him as the Final Boss he accepts to avoid dealing with his harem, and in his epilogue he's removed from their company.Pilot X: I don't blame you one bit, buddy!
- Magic Carpet: He rides a flying carpet with a big turbine on it.
Professor Gutentäag
From Switzerland, Professor Guttentaag is one of the most brilliant inventors of the century, and head of Gutentäag Industries, the world's largest producers of Cuckoo Clocks. He has entered the race to show off his robot SVEN 209, a custom robot he also pilots during the race.
Guttentaag has made contact with Pilot X, a mysterious racer who will sabotage the other racers so Guttentaag will win.
- Absent-Minded Professor: In one scene he completely dismantles SVEN looking for his keys, only to realize they were in his pocket.
- Even Evil Has Standards: He takes pity on Baron Von Slaughter being such a poorly stitched-together monster and suggests he sue. He even ends up giving the Baron a free consultation.
- Gameplay and Story Integration: In order to have his adventure mode fit with everyone else, the cutscenes before Intestinal Track and Torpedo Run provide justifications on having to deal with his own plans (accidentally being shrunken in the former and his monkeys getting out of control in the latter).
- The Heavy: While Pilot X is the Big Bad, Gutentäag is responsible for several of the scenarios in the game.
- Mad Scientist: He's a Swiss scientist who invented a flying robot and conspires with an evil alien.
- Shorter Means Smarter: He's one of the shortest racers, but also one of the smartest.
- Villain Protagonist: In his adventure mode he's this, given he's actively sabotaging the race.
SVEN 209
Professor Guttentaag's latest invention and robot companion, SVEN 209 is the sweet and dim witted robot Guttentaag rides in the Freaky Flyers race. Unbeknownst to him, he is also the bargaining chip for Guttentaag winning the race with the help of Pilot X.
- The Dog Bites Back: SVEN 209 eats Guttentaag after a shrink ray malfunction in his ending, although he does escape in time for the 100% cutscene.
- Kindhearted Simpleton: The opposite to Guttentaag's villainous personality, such as helping the soldiers in Bandito Attack when Guttentaag wouldn't and, as stated in the manual, would much rather play video games than race.
- Klingon Promotion: SVEN takes over Gutentäag Industries after eating the Professor and uses it to fund charities for abused robots like him.
- The Voiceless: SVEN was built without a voice chip, emoting with waving and smiling as a way of communicating.
Cactus Rose
Born in Mexico, Cactus Rose spent her teenage years as the leader of an all-female bike gang before touring the wrestling circuit as "El Diablo Chiquita." Cactus Rose has joined the Freaky Flyers race to give the prize money to the poor... members of her gang.
- Bandito: She's part of a gang of them who go around robbing people.
- Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: The girliest of the female racers, and the only character who wears a crop top that bares her midriff.
- Blood Knight: She jumps right into the Final Boss with no hesitation.
- Gameplay and Story Integration: It's her bandits that are storming the fort in the Bandito Attack level, and to justify her being the one to stop them, she remarks that they're supposed to be cleaning the living room.
- Gratuitous Spanish: Often speaks some random words in spanish. Her wrestling name is "El Diablo Chiquita" but not the more fitting, feminine "La Diabla Chiquita".
- Gun Twirling: Does this with her pair of revolvers.
- Impossible Theft: She manages to hold the narrator at gunpoint and takes his wallet.
- Just Like Robin Hood: She claims to be this. But in reality, she takes from anyone she comes across and gives the money to her gang.
- Karma Houdini: In her ending, she arrives at her gang's hideout only to find a bunch of officers there, and believes she's about to be arrested. Turns out they're actually fans of her and just wanted to go out for drinks.
- Masked Luchador: In her alternate costume she wrestles under the name El Diablo Chiquita.
- Ms. Fanservice: She's a Spicy Latina with a revealing outfit and she's often featured in promotional material, alongside fellow Ms. Fanservice Traci Torpedoes.
- Muscles Are Meaningless: She's show to be much stronger than her slim body would lead one to believe, even doing a piledrive on the Baron.
- Oral Fixation: Often has a blade of straw on her mouth.
- Spicy Latina: She's an attractive latina with a feisty attitude and a quick-to-anger temper.
- Signature Headgear: Always has her cowgirl hat on, which somehow never leaves her head despite all the flying she does.
- Tattooed Crook: She's a bandit leader with a rose tattoo on her forearm.
Sammy Wasabi
A pint-sized Japanese genius Aeronautic Engineer, Sammy Wasabi has built planes since he was two years old and was Genius of the Year for three consecutive years by Japanese Genius Magazine. He's joined the Freaky Flyers race to test his new plane.
- Asian and Nerdy: He's Japanese and a tech genius.
- Brainy Baby: He was one, as he's been building fully functional fighter planes since the age of two.
- Gadgeteer Genius: His jet is so complex, he's the only one able to fly it. He also creates an arm for Baron Von Slaughter in mere seconds, even if it was made to attack him.
- Japanese Politeness: Subverted. He's an annoying prankster to all of the other racers, but is respectful to Professor Guttentaag and compliments him on his evil plans, presumably because he sees Guttentaag as more of an intellectual equal.
- Laser-Guided Karma: After deliberately irritating his fellow racers with his inventions, his victims slap his own VR helmet on him, where he's a fish about to be sliced up for sushi.
- The Prankster: He likes to pull pranks on his fellow racers, though he's the only one laughing. Throughout the story, he welds Johnny and Mick's planes together, traps Paulie in a VR simulation where he's getting shot at by the feds, and gives Baron Von Slaughter a robot arm that makes him punch himself.
- Robosexual: His plane is capable of turning into a robot girlfriend, who Pilot X disguises himself as.
- Shorter Means Smarter: He is among the shortest contestants in the race, and is one of the smartest.
Baron Von Slaughter
Baron Von Slaughter is a Romanian monster stitched back together from body parts and created in an attempt to boost their local economy. Baron has entered the Freaky Flyers race to bring tourism back to his home village. If he wins, his village will make him a wife.
- The Ahnold: His speech pattern is directly inspired by Arnold himself.
- Artificial Limbs: His left arm is a mechanical prosthetic. Sammy Wasabi also offers him a right arm, but Sammy uses it to hit the Baron in the face.
- Catchphrase: "Ah, cripes!" Often said when a part of him falls off, or when he loses.
- Frankenstein's Monster: A parody of the classic Universal version, though a lot more articulate.
- A Hero to His Hometown: The villagers seem to genuinely quite like him, with one of the villagers calling him "our dear little monster".
- Pulling Themselves Together: He has to do this frequently due to the low quality of his component parts and having been built by a Angry Dentist rather than a Mad Scientist.
Island Jack
From Danger Island, Island Jack is a mellow pilot who was living peacefully before being forcibly entered into the Freaky Flyers race by the Island Chief, setting him out on his race in an autopilot plane. He hopes to get back home as soon as he figures out how to fly the plane.
- Brilliant, but Lazy: A genuinely skilled pilot, but also prefers his laid-back lifestyle over actually flying.
- The Dog Bites Back: When he figures out how to launch the guided missiles from his plane, he uses a missile to destroy the house of the Island Chief who put him in the race.
- Nice Guy: He's the most pleasant-minded member of the cast, though even he's not beyond getting back at people who annoy him.
- Sleepyhead: He's narcoleptic.
- Token Good Teammate: By far the nicest flyer in the cast. He's willing to help the cowboys simply because and without any strings attached and only wrongs people either due to being wronged first or by pure accident.
The Marcels Morseau Brothers
The Marcels Morseau Brothers are a pair of French conjoined twins who are also mimes. Abandoned on the streets for being too annoying, they've entered the Freaky Flyers race to find their mother and are hoping to reconnect with her.
- Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys: While everyone else either willingly accepts Pilot X's battle in outer space or is forced into it after not taking him seriously, these French twins run like hell when initially challenged.
- Conjoined Twins: The fat twin is the one in control of the legs, with the skinny twin growing out of his back.
- Everyone Hates Mimes: They were abandoned at birth for being annoying, and when they finally reunite with their mother in their ending, she abandons them again.
- Fat and Skinny: One twin is fat and acts as the plane, while the skinny twin is attached to his back and acts as the pilot.
- Named After Somebody Famous: Named after French mime artist Marcel Marceau.
- Pie in the Face: They deliver one of these to Baron von Slaughter in one of his cutscenes.
- Sibling Rivalry: Being conjoined twins, they tend to disagree on things, resulting in a fist fight between the two.
- Sibling Triangle: They have this with Myrna Bookbottom and Margaret Basher.
- The Speechless: They're mimes, after all.
Pilot X
Pilot X is a mysterious intergalactic pilot from Outer Space, contacting Professor Guttentaag to infiltrate the race and challenge the victor to a BATTLE...IN OUTER SPAAAAAAACE!!!!
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: He explicitly says he has ADD in his theme song.
- Catchphrase: "I'm PIIIIIILOT X! And I challenge you to a BATTLE, IN OUTER SPAAAAAACE!" and variations thereof.
- Dastardly Whiplash: He's got the appearance down pat, complete with long and thin mustache.
- Even Evil Has Standards: After seeing the way Sheik Abdul's harem treats him, Pilot X doesn't blame him one bit for choosing to battle in outer space instead.
- Final Boss: Regardless of character choice, adventure mode ends with a battle in outer space with him in his combat mech, Robo X.
- Laughably Evil: It's pretty clear Pilot X is not to be taken seriously.
- Leitmotif: His final boss theme, simply called "Pilot X"
- Master of Disguise: For the final battle in each character's story, Pilot X is disguised as someone or something else before revealing himself. This is taken a step further in Guttentaag's ending where he is disguised as himself.
- Mundane Utility: The shrink ray he gives Gutentaag for use in one of his evil plans is a device used on his planet for cleaning up trash.
- No Indoor Voice: Most of his lines are screamed, especially when challenging someone.
- Sinister Silhouettes: On first glance, he looks like a figure hidden in silhouette, but it's just what he looks like.
- To Serve Man: He's able to recognize Mick Bungadoo's secret sauce is people because he's tasted people before.
- Villainous Breakdown: Two of the segments of his theme tune have him losing his cool, getting frustrated with his machine and making excuses."Why am I slowing down?! Come on you piece of junk! MOVE!! WHY DID I GET THIS THING IN FRESNO?!?! I KNEW I SHOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT FOREIGN!!!""Whats this?! I have a bad shoulder and bursitis and my butt hurts and God... Darnit I have ADD!"
