The Strong Family and Relatives

    General
  • Formerly Friendly Family: Johnathan was once Happily Married to Stella and Star had a close relationship with both of her parents as a child, but things went south when the couple's marriage fell apart and Stella left Johnathan for Jean-Luc, while Star joined the A-listers to deal with loneliness following her parents' divorce and became a Beta Bitch. Thankfully, things have been getting better.

    Johnathan Strong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deewcdw_d4b582d5_c993_4c96_966c_ccaf618906ac.png
Star's father. A divorced lawyer who's career leaves him little time to spend with his daughter but it's obvious he loves her above all.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Johnathan seems to be a more sympathetic version since he at least tried to be nice to Danny and didn't realize that inviting himself and Star for Cocoa was embarrassing her.
  • Amicable Exes: While tensions had been high between him and Stella for a long time, they have tried burying the hatchet and being more respectful to each other for Star's sake, especially in post-Bonding stories.
  • Amoral Attorney: Greatly averted as he seems to mean well and is just trying to do his job. In fact, the only people he has tried to take to court so far deserved it (he sued Captain Angus for poor maintenance on his boat and threatened to terminate his ex-wife's visitation rights due to her being a bad parent).
  • Benevolent Boss: It's shown that he treats Georgia (his housekeeper) with respect and doesn't look down on her.
    • In Snowed, he sends Georgia on an all-expense paid vacation to Cancun for Christmas.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's normally a well-meaning and decent person, but you don't want to get on his bad side.
  • Canon Foreigner: It's likely Star has a father in canon, though he was never shown or even mentioned.
  • Chick Magnet: He was once married to Stella (who is stated to have aged well), is currently in a relationship with Solene and even Spectra finds him attractive.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He'll give a deadpan comment or quip to the cause of his issues.
  • Doting Parent: Star is the apple of his eye and while he does try to discipline her if needed, he also gives her a generous allowance and is even willing to put up with his ex-wife (to an extent) for her sake.
  • Education Papa: According to Star, he is very strict about her grades, expecting at least a B average, and he also expects her to attend her extracurricular activities.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • While his hatred for his ex-wife is justified, Jonathan does not get in the way of Star having a relationship with her mother.
    • Despite feeling awkward around Pierre (the son of his ex-wife), Jonathan does not blame him for their divorce and even seems concerned for him, allowing Star to babysit Pierre since he hopes she will be a better influence on him than the Bevier family.
    • He expressed disgust and anger when the Guys In White planned to capture Danielle (a child) and torture her with painful experiments.
    • While Johnathan has a complicated relationship with Stella and blames her when Star begins to act out because of the pressures of the beauty pageant, he is shocked to learn that his daughter yelled at her mother. He believes that what Star said was unacceptable and promises to have a talk with her.
  • Excellent Judge of Character:
    • He’s pegged the Beviers as trouble since day one.
    • While he never interfered in her relationships, Star admits her father never liked Kwan and the A-Listers because he knew they were a bad influence on her. It’s why he’s far more approving of Team Phantom. Also, after Star came clean about her past as a Beta Bitch and what the A-Listers have done, any goodwill he had for Kwan was gone and it's obvious that Johnathan doesn't want him near Star anymore.
    • He saw Beatrice Traville for the horrible witch she is since the day they met.
  • Foil: To Jean-Luc. Both are wealthy men with teenage daughters and were at one point, romantically involved with Stella. However, Johnathan is a hardworking, no-nonsense lawyer who loves his daughter but has little time to spend with her due to his career. Jean-Luc is a shameless, womanizing owner of a vineyard who spoils his own daughter rotten and does nothing to curb her attitude.
  • Good Parents: Okay, while Johnathan doesn't spend as much time with Star as he would like due to his work schedule, he is a very loving father and while she is pampered, it's obvious that most of Star's good traits came from him.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He has blonde hair and is a Nice Guy and loving father to Star.
  • Has a Type: It might be unintentional, but both his ex-wife and current girlfriend are women with names that start with an "S" and have long hair.
  • Hidden Depths: Staged reveals that he enjoys theater and has some experience acting in community theater.
  • Humble Parent, Spoiled Kids: He is a humble and hardworking Self-Made Man while his daughter is a former Beta Bitch, though Star has undergone Character Development.
  • Ivy League for Everyone: He earned his law degree at Yale.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • He plans to use his connections as a high-ranking lawyer to terminate Stella's visitation rights so she can't see Star anymore. While it's true that he plans to manipulate the court system, he is right when he points out that Stella has been a terrible parent due to her thoughtlessness, not caring how her actions negatively influenced their daughter and the fact that she had sided with her stepdaughter over Star. What makes this worse is that unknown to Johnathan, Stella was a corrupting influence on Star for years, turning her into a spoiled mean girl, but he thought Stella still loved their daughter and encouraged Star to spend time with her mother whenever she was in town. In hindsight, it would have been better for Star if he cut Stella from their lives from the start.
    • Considering the A-Listers were a terrible influence on Star and Kwan was a lousy boyfriend to her, it’s not hard to understand why he’s far more approving of Team Phantom than he ever was of the popular kids.
    • In “Visited”, Johnathan mocks Stella for acting more like a servant to Beatrice than a daughter because she just lets her mother walk all over her. At the end, Stella is forced to admit he was right all these years about Beatrice being an inherently horrible person and cuts her mother out of her life to get her family away from her toxic influence.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: He admits he ignored Stella’s flaws while they were married because of his love for her.
  • Loving a Shadow: Johnathan admits to himself that his love for Stella blinded him to the type of person she really was until it was too late.
  • Nice Guy: Despite his busy career, he is a decent man and a very loving father to Star.
  • Nice to the Waiter: Like his daughter, he treats his housekeeper Georgia well and was angry when the Guys In White agents insulted her.
  • No Accounting for Taste: He questions how he ever fell in love with Stella in the first place.
  • Not So Above It All: He'll get into a petty argument with his ex-wife without a second thought.
  • Nouveau Riche: He came from a middle-class family but through hard work, became a very successful lawyer. Unlike most examples, he doesn't seem to flaunt his wealth.
  • Odd Friendship: He bonds quickly with Jack Fenton over a television show they love called Billington's Island.
  • Papa Wolf: He is very protective of his daughter. Mess with her and he will not hesitate to take you to court.
  • Parental Obliviousness: While he never liked the A-Listers, he was unaware that they were enough of a bad influence to turn Star into a Beta Bitch until she tells him in “Lost”.
  • Parents as People: He does love Star and cares for her well-being, but he has a very busy schedule as a high-powered lawyer and rarely spends time with her, which is why he didn't realize she became a bully at school. However, the moment he thinks Star's life is in danger, he leaps into action. He's also still not very forgiving to his ex-wife, and will make a rude comment about her if he can.
  • Pet the Dog: Pierre is the only Bevier Johnathan can stand as he shows concern for the infant boy's safety and even recommends a babysitter for him to Stella.
  • Self-Made Man: It's revealed that he came from a middle-class family, but through hard work, became the successful lawyer he is today.
  • Shipper on Deck: Jonathan seems to recognize his daughter's interest in Danny quickly and voices his approval of Star's new "friend" more than the A-Listers.

    Joy Strong
Star's paternal grandmother. She makes her debut in "Traveled".
  • Badass Normal: She may be in her 70's but "Traveled" shows that she is very fit for her age and is capable of holding her own in a fight.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She quickly accepts Danny when Star brings him to her house as thanks for helping her out earlier.
  • Berserk Button: She has several of them:
    • People messing with her family.
    • Stella seems to be a big one to her in general, as well as her mother Beatrice.
    • Being Mistaken for Servant. It's one of the reasons she dislikes Paulina, as the girl treated Joy like a maid when they visited Amity park. Joy also quickly becomes angry when she thinks Stella is asking her to fetch tea for the latter's father, Richard Traville (only to feel embarrassed after Stella clarifies she was talking to her family maid Ann).
    • Do NOT call her an "old bag".
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: She’s a friendly and down-to-earth Genki Girl while her husband Kirk is a stubborn but loving Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Brutal Honesty:
    • She makes it clear to Star just how little she thinks of the A-Listers for being huge jerks.
    • She doesn’t sugarcoat her hatred for Beatrice.
    • She never misses a chance to degrade Stella for her flaws and screw-ups. Joy eventually goes as far as revealing to Stella she hated her from the beginning and was only pretending to like her for Johnathan's sake. Also, she makes it clear she’ll never forgive Stella no matter what she’s done or how much she’s changed.
  • Canon Foreigner: It’s likely Star has a paternal grandmother in canon, though she was never shown or mentioned.
  • Cool Old Lady: She's shown to be a very energetic, active, and lively woman who enjoys yoga, dancing, and hiking. When she meets Team Phantom, Joy proves to be a kind host and quickly gets along with them, feeding them homemade cookies, muffins, and juice. She is especially nice to Danny because he left a good impression on her. Joy remains a capable and well-rounded woman despite her age, as she practices tai chi and is very athletic.
  • Doting Grandparent: As a stark contrast to Beatrice, Nana Joy is nothing but a loving and affectionate grandmother to Star, and her first reaction upon seeing her is to shower her with hugs and kisses. It really is easy to see why she is Star's favorite grandmother. She is also kind to Star's new friends when they meet, feeding them homemade snacks.
  • Doting Parent: Joy's first reaction to seeing her adult son is to give him a tight hug and smother him with kisses until her husband tells her to stop. She was also calling her son on the phone to make sure he arrived safely in New York.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Joy Strong is shown to be nice and polite to others (including Team Phantom and Solene), and does her best to be welcoming and hospitable. However, there are limits to her kindness and she has no patience when dealing with unpleasant people.
    • Joy reveals that she always disliked her granddaughter's former friends, the A-listers, and was happy to learn that Star no longer associates with them. She seemed to despise Paulina in particular for her rudeness.
    • She has nothing but disdain for her former daughter-in-law, Stella, due to Stella leaving Johnathan for Jean-Luc and Joy generally finding her unpleasant and even accusing her of being a Gold Digger. However, Joy does not extend this dislike towards Stella's new son Pierre, admitting that she finds him cute and only expressing hope that he wouldn't grow up to be like his parents, thereby insulting Stella without insulting the baby. She also has no issues with Stella’s father Richard, to the point of inviting him to Kirk's birthday celebration.
      • When Star tried to criticize how Joy treated Stella, telling her that she knew her grandmother was upset but was acting way over the line, Joy insisted she was justified and compared Stella to her mother, Beatrice. Thankfully, when Johnathan called her out and pointed out that was not true, Joy actually agreed with her son's point, admitting that comparison wasn't fair.
  • Foil: Joy and Beatrice are both Star's grandmothers but are different as night and day, and have very different relationships with their families. The only thing they have in common is they hate their child's former spouse and freely admit this every chance they get.
  • Genki Girl: In spite of being in her 70s, Joy is shown to be a very upbeat and enthusiastic person.
  • Hidden Depths: She takes Spanish lessons and likes photography.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal:
    • She admits to Star that she always hated the A-Listers for being obnoxious snobs, especially Paulina for treating her like a maid when they first met.
    • In an argument, Joy reveals to Stella that she never liked her due to the latter's prissy attitude and ignorance, was only nice to her to make Johnathan happy.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: She gets along quite swimmingly with Team Phantom from the beginning since she considers them a major improvement over those snobs the A-Listers.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Back in high school, Joy was so beautiful it's said she's the one Star took after regarding beauty.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Her antagonism towards Stella is FAR from unjustified given all the damage she caused to her family with her thoughtless actions. Plus, she hasn’t had the chance to witness Stella's Character Development. Stella doesn't contest this, with her only qualm being Joy's refusal to at least pretend to be civil with her in the middle of a stressful situation where Stella's trying her best to be helpful.
      • Joy makes a valid argument that if Stella truly did love Johnathan or was even a good wife, she wouldn’t have even thought about other men let alone cheat on him with Jean-Puke.
      • Considering Stella cheated on and left Johnathan for Jean-Luc and has been a terrible mother to Star all these years, it’s hard to say Joy was wrong to disapprove of Stella or her relationship with her son.
    • Stella acknowledges her point that Beatrice is too much of a selfish Dirty Coward to ever risk her life to save anyone, even if they’re family, which she proved in “Visited” by running and hiding during the ghost bat’s attack on the country club. Stella even admits that her mother has always been useless in situations that can’t be solved with money or yelling since Beatrice's first instinct was to flee like a scared little kid.
  • Jerkass to One: Joy Strong is presented as a kind and doting grandmother to Star and is very friendly and hospital to Danny and his friends. However, she does not have a positive opinion of her former daughter-in-law, Stella, mainly because of how she left her son for another man. Joy doesn't hesitate to badmouth and make snide comments about Stella, even when she is within earshot. She also doesn't hesitate to show blatant favoritism to Solene (her son's current girlfriend), stating that she's an improvement over Stella both as a romantic partner and maternal figure. When Joy meets Stella again, she doesn't hesitate to degrade her for being a gold-digging Trophy Wife and mockingly asks if she and her "home-wrecking skunk" (Jean-Luc) are still together.
  • Like a Son to Me: Well, more like “grandson” but she doesn’t mind Danny calling her “grandma” because she approves of him dating her granddaughter Star since he’s a FAR better person than the A-Listers ever were.
  • Mama Bear: She is shown to be very protective of her son and grandchild, and isn't afraid to defend them when they are in trouble.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is "Joy" and she is shown to generally be a very upbeat and positive person.
  • Mistaken for Servant: This is her Berserk Button and the main reason she hates Paulina for thinking Joy was a maid when they first met. She also becomes angry when accusing Stella of ordering her around like a maid, though calms down when it's not true.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She may be old, but she is very fit and athletic, and is more than capable of holding her own in a fight. "Traveled" implies that she may be where Star gets her Badass Normal traits from.
  • Nice Girl: She is a very friendly, positive, and happy-go-lucky woman who adores her son and granddaughter very much.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • She doesn't extend her resentment of Stella and Jean-Luc towards Pierre, as he is a baby. She and Kirk also remain friendly with Stella's father, Richard.
    • She may not have approved of Stella but still respected her son Johnathan enough to accept his decisions and didn’t interfere in their relationship.
    • While she never liked Stella, Joy still made her feel like part of the family during Stella's marriage to her son, at least for Johnathan’s sake, and helped her out when Star was born.
  • Shipper on Deck: She fully supports Star's relationship with Danny because Joy sees him as a nice boy for helping her earlier and a major improvement over the A-Listers, who were thoroughly unpleasant to her and Kirk when they visited them.
  • Shipping Torpedo: Downplayed in the beginning as while Joy and Kirk never liked Stella, they did welcome her into the family to keep Johnathan happy. In the present though, it’s played completely straight given that Stella’s irresponsible actions have understandably killed off any goodwill her former in-laws might’ve had towards her and now they’re glad Johnathan is with Solene instead.
  • Stronger Than You Look: She power-walks daily, once ran a marathon, and is a skilled swimmer and sharpshooter.

    Kirk Strong
Star's paternal grandfather. He makes his debut in "Traveled".
  • Agent Scully: He initially doesn't believe that ghosts exist.
  • Berserk Button: Do not call him "Gramps".
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: He’s a pretty grumpy and serious guy, in contrast to his free-spirited Genki Girl wife Joy.
  • Brutal Honesty: He’s very vocal about his disdain for Dash Baxter and that he’ll never amount to anything but working in a dead-end job under someone he used to mistreat.
  • Canon Foreigner: It's likely Star has a paternal grandfather in canon, though he was never shown or mentioned.
  • Doting Grandparent: He's a very loving grandfather to his little "gumdrop" Star.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • He may not like Stella but doesn’t go out of his way to antagonize her like Joy does.
    • He hates Beatrice and the Beviers but doesn’t have a problem with Stella’s father Richard or her new son Pierre.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: He accurately pegs Dash Baxter for the dumb Jerk Jock, Lazy Bum, and Future Loser he is.
  • Foil: Much like Beatrice, he's Star's grandparent. However, Kirk is her paternal grandfather from a much humbler upbringing who is Happily Married and had a semi-estranged relationship with his son until the two made up, all of which contrasts Beatrice.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He once served in the military during his younger years.
    • He is part of some men's club, and is skilled at sharpshooting.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal:
    • Joy admits that neither her nor Kirk ever liked Stella and only tolerated her to make Johnathan happy.
    • He admits he never liked the A-Listers, especially Dash Baxter for being a rude, meat-headed jerk that only cares about football.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He makes it clear that Dash Baxter is nothing but a worthless slacker who will never amount to anything and will likely end up working for someone he took for granted.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He might be a bit stubborn and set in his ways, but he is a decent man who truly loves his family.
  • Jerkass Realization: It takes Johnathan and him arguing while alone to realize how refusing to open up on how he missed his son was a bad idea.
  • Papa Wolf: He adores his granddaughter, Star, very much and is protective of her.
  • Parents as People: He loves his son. However, his stubborn pride had caused a wedge in their relationship and it took a long time to admit his fault.
  • Pet the Dog: He may not have approved of Stella but still respected his son Johnathan's choice and didn’t interfere in their relationship. Kirk also tried to be kind to Stella when she was married to his son, as he did make her feel like part of the family, at least for Johnathan’s sake.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When Stella sarcastically says she's ordering a pizza instead of calling for help, Kirk asks if they have bread sticks.
  • Shipper on Deck: While not as enthusiastic as Joy, he is okay with Star and Danny’s relationship since the latter is a good kid.
  • Shipping Torpedo: Downplayed in the beginning as while Kirk and Joy never liked Stella, they did welcome her into the family to keep Johnathan happy. In the present though, it’s played completely straight given that Stella’s irresponsible actions have understandably killed off any goodwill her former in-laws might’ve had towards her and now they’re glad Johnathan is with Solene instead.
  • Skeptic No Longer: He accepts ghosts exist after witnessing a ghost attack in Coney Island.
  • Stronger Than You Look: Kirk points this out to Power Surge, revealing he regularly power-walks and is a trained sharpshooter.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Once he and Johnathan have a serious talk about their issues, he mellows considerably.

    Christopher Morgan
A prospective Second Love for Sam. He also turns out to be connected to Star in an unexpected way.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: While Chris and Star were also cousins in Flower princess11's fanfic Resurrected Memories, they didn't interact. This series details that they had a close relationship growing up that became extremely strained because of Star's misguided devotion to the A-Listers.
  • Brutal Honesty: He's very open about his hatred for Beatrice and Colette as he calls them a "hag" and "brat", respectively. He also doesn't hesitate to tell Stella that everyone in Johnathan's family hates Beatrice and calls her an "old bat".
  • Canon Immigrant: He first appeared in Flower princess11's other fanfic, "Cupid's Wrath".
  • Childhood Friends: He and Star were this when they were kids.
  • Clashing Cousins: He's cousins with Star and he's also pretty abrasive to her. Star is nicer now but she pretty much admits that his vitriol is more than merited.
  • Everyone Can See It: Team Phantom, including Danny, can immediately see that him and Sam are becoming more than just friends considering all the time they spend together alone.
  • Former Friend of Alpha Bitch: He was Star's closest friend before she became a Beta Bitch in middle school.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: A subplot in "Staged" is about Christopher realizing that while he certainly has valid reasons to be upset with Star, he also doesn't have the moral high ground he thinks he does because of what happened between them. This is best shown when his vegan lunch is completely ruined because of Puck and he automatically blames Star for doing it, solely by merit of his bitterness towards her.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Is a good guy with blonde hair who loves nature and animals.
  • Hidden Depths: In "Staged", he's shown to be a good actor as he helps Sam rehearse for her role as Titania in Lancer's production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream by playing Nick Bottom. He even fills in as Nick Bottom on opening night when Dash Baxter is indisposed.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Star admits his animosity towards her is justified because she ruined their friendship when she became a Beta Bitch and chose the A-Listers over him.
    • In "Dressed", he point-blank tells Paulina she doesn't have a chance with Danny Phantom and that wouldn't change even if she won the beauty pageant (which she doesn't) because Phantom barely knows her and is already dating Starlight Spirit, who actually is in his league since she's a fellow superhero. Star and Sam don't say it out loud but they completely agree with him.
  • Jerkass Realization: After getting punched by Danny, humiliated by Puck, and seeing Star save an unpopular student, Christopher starts to realize that she's a changed person and he can no longer use his years of resentment to justify his attitude towards her. While they don't fully patch things up, he's at least willing to start over with her.
  • Jerkass to One: He's pretty affable normally but that goes out the window when he runs into Star. Something bad happened in the past and it soured things between them something fierce.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Star admits she and Chris were as close as siblings growing up.
  • Nature Lover: Like Sam, he is a vegan with a strong love for nature and animals. He is even a regular at Sam's environmental rallies.
  • Nice Guy: Pretty genial to just about everyone.
  • Second Love: On the way to being one for Sam.
  • Secret Admirer: He was one to Sam before they had a proper introduction to each other.
  • Virtuous Vegetarianism: He is a vegan, much like Sam, and is portrayed as a Nice Guy.
  • We Used to Be Friends: As children, he and Star were very close and considered each other siblings, but they began to drift apart when she joined the A-Listers. The nail in the coffin was Star refusing to take his side after the group pulled a nasty prank on his school's football team and mascot, humiliating Christopher's best friend and then-girlfriend. Feeling betrayed, he cut off all ties with her.
