    Male Participants

Zoro

Ultimate Illusionist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zoro_4.png

"I am Zoro, the Ultimate Illusionist. I can make anything seem as if they were real. Feelings, people, objects, all that."

The quiet, mysterious, and mostly-silent figure who would much prefer to stand in the shadows, Zoro rarely shows much emotion other than just a blank uninterested face, which is pretty much what he feels constantly.

Juno

Ultimate Wish Granter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/juno_3.png

"Since I haven't seen you around, I'll introduce myself...I'm Juno, the Ultimate Wish Granter."

Either sleeping or attempting to sleep, there's not much to say about Juno. When he's not sleeping, he can be seen whining about how much he wishes he was asleep. It's best to leave him be.

Cyrus

Ultimate Scientist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyrus_7.png

"...Confusion aside, my name is Cyrus, and I am the Ultimate Scientist."

The (supposed) smart guy of the group, Cyrus is incredibly hypocritical. He claims he just wants everyone to be friends, but he fails to practice what he preaches. Plus, he comes off as a jerk on several occasions. He'll soften up...eventually.

He is one of the three survivors.

  • Butt-Monkey: Cyrus got put into a team for those with no friends, nearly made his team last place (which would result in a handicap), and got hit by a fireball (albeit intentionally) in Chapter 2. He also had someone - who he doesn't care much about - fall completely head-over-heels for him, was forced to deal with several infected classmates due to a motive, and gets knocked out by the protagonist, all of which happened in Chapter 3. Oh, and we almost forgot to mention that he also gets infected at the end of the aforementioned chapter, despite the fact that the disease is non-contagious. Everyone, even Monoloin, is shocked at this discovery.
  • Closet Geek: Cyrus is secretly an anime fan, particularly of the magical girl genre.
Kami: Cyrus! I didn’t know you liked anime!
Cyrus: Wh-Huh? Where in the world did you get that idea? I do NOT like anime in the slightest.
  • Color Motif: Light green.
  • Disapproving Look: At almost every given moment, Cyrus can be found disapprovingly looking at everything.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Maria mistakes Cyrus for a female during the prologue, though he states that he's used to it.
  • Graceful in Their Element: He sure may be the Ultimate Scientist, but he sure does suck at baking bread.
  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: He’s got a long lab coat fitting for a scientist.
  • Lethal Chef: Cyrus has been responsible for multiple kitchen fires, during his fun room with Stella and while baking bread with Cyrillo.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Cyrus has knee-length hair, tied in neat pigtails.
  • The Medic: Because of his status as the Ultimate Scientist, he ends up being trusted with this role.
  • Otaku: His liking for certain anime tropes is noted several times.
  • The Smart Guy: He’s the Ultimate Scientist, so he’s probably this.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Being the Ultimate Scientist must mean he’s pretty smart. Luckily he has glasses to fit that.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Cyrus both wears glasses and is among the more level-headed of the cast members.
  • Taking the Bullet: To everyone's surprise, he takes a fireball from Apollo that was meant to kill Cyrillo.
  • Toast of Tardiness: Invoked.
Cyrus: Sorry...seems like I picked up a trope...
Kami: Trope? What kind of genre has a trope where you run with bread in your mouth?
  • Took a Level in Badass: His unexpected heroic sacrifice for Cyrillo.

Fry

Ultimate Gardener

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fry_7.png

"I'm Fry! I'm the Ultimate - guess what - Gardener! It's great to meet you all!"

One of the more sane characters of the group. Fry is the friendly, but slightly cowardly. He‘s slow to anger, and just wants to garden with all of his friends, which he’s determined to get a lot of.

Cyrillo

Ultimate Maître’d

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyrillo_8.png

"I am quite pleased to meet you all. My name is Cyrillo, the Ultimate Maître’d. Again, it's great to meet you."

The scarily tall and scarily pale maître’d who, if not singing, is overall a calm and friendly guy, although his actions can be a bit strange, and his always-happy demeanor can be off-putting at times.

Sam

Ultimate Surfer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sam_072.png

"Name's Sam, the Ultimate Surfer! ...It's all I remember about myself."

Sam's not your everyday surfer dude, but he is rather similar to one. He’s chill, a bit dull in the brain, and just looking to have a good time while he can.

He is the killer of Chapter 4.

  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Sam to Faust in chapter 4, right before the former is executed.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He is called "Sammy" by Faust.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: Present in multiple of his sprites.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Copies Faust’s trademark “Uwah” when Sapphire starts hitting him during the Afterlife Show.
Sam: UWAAAAAH!!! SOMEONE- ow HELP- ow PLEASE- ow!
  • Cool Shades: Sam wears his black shades all time.
  • Declaration of Protection: Makes one towards Faust. Too bad he dies.
  • Death from Above: The finale of his execution involves a Wailord being dropped on top of him.
  • Everyone Can See It: Kami suggests to Sam that his feelings for Faust are romantic before Sam is able to realize they are himself.
  • Hot-Blooded: Sam has been known to be quick to anger on multiple occasions, especially when he feels Faust is threatened.
  • Must Make Amends: He is urged to make up with Kami by Faust, Flidgey, and Maya after a previous misunderstanding.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The manly man to Faust's sensitive guy.
  • Ship Tease: Has some with Faust. He confesses to him right before he dies.
  • Surfer Dude: Subverted, as he doesn’t use the usual speaking patterns.
  • Squashed Flat: Happens to him in his execution via Wailord.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Sam throws a punch at Sapphire, though Faust intercepts it.

Faust

Ultimate Grand Marshal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/faust_70.png

"Who might I be? Well, I'm Faust, the Ultimate Grand Marshal, leader of ceremonial marches for all sorts of things!"

Claiming to be the leader of the group, Faust is a grand marshal who truly believes that he’s a moral compass. Taking his marching very seriously, he has no tolerance for people who don’t follow him. There is a soft side to him though, which he doesn't want to show even to people he considers as his friends.

Apollo

Ultimate Pyromancer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apollo_3.png

"Yes! Your eyes are set on a great...no...ULTIMATE Pyromancer! You all know what that is, right?"

Confusing is one of many words to describe Apollo. He is always looking to cause a bit of a mess just to see the reactions of others. He also enjoys being on top and knowing that he’s safe from supposed “commoner punishment” Besides, those are nothing more than little pranks... right?

Century

Ultimate Undersea Lamplighter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/century_7.png

"Pleased to meet you. My name is Century, and I am the Ultimate Undersea Lamplighter. What does that mean? Well, I'm not too sure...It's all I remember besides my name."

Always lost in thought, Century is a person who doesn’t trust others easily. Despite being a bit of a pessimist, he’s open to the idea of friendship and bonding, but break that bond just once and he will definitely not like it.

He is the culprit of Chapter 1, having hit Maria with a vase and then making his escape through the library's vents.

  • Back from the Dead: Century suddenly appeared midway through Chapter 3's trial.
  • Blood from the Mouth: While delivering his final words after being stabbed and after ultimately passing away.
  • Color Motif: Blue.
  • Deadly Rotary Fan: Featured in his execution.
  • Family of Choice: He reveals that he sees the other students as this before his execution.
Century: Well then... goodbye new family... Please...don't make the same mistake I did...
  • Go Out with a Smile: When Century’s body is flipped over, it is revealed he died smiling.
Kami: Century seemed...so at peace...so calm and collected even in passing.
  • Hanahaki Disease: Century is one of four characters infected with the disease for chapter five’s motive.
  • He Knows Too Much: Because he witnessed Stella’s murder, Faust decided to kill him.
  • Hope Spot: His execution. In an attempt to escape from the spinning fan, Century holds on to a light pole...Only for it to grow spikes and hurt his hand. This then leads into the sharks attacking him due to the blood from his wound.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After his Chapter 1 freakout, he seems to show remorse for murder.
  • Obliquely Obfuscated Occupation: We never really get closure on what an undersea lamplighter really is...
  • Signature Headgear: His headband.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: Being a nice guy combined with his remorseful response to being caught might make him a bit more sympathetic than most killers.
  • Tears of Remorse: In his final moments he can be shown crying in remorse
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: On multiple occasions.
    • While killing Maria was a drastic action, he wholeheartedly believed that she was a traitor and that he was protecting the group.
    • In order to prevent any murders from occurring, Century plans a group hangout in the arcade. When Apollo declines, Century unexpectedly points a gun at him.

    Female Participants

Kami

Ultimate Florist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kami_1.png

"Well then...I'm Kami, the Ultimate Florist...Which is all I can remember as of now."

A seemingly average girl with a passion for all things flowers, Kami is relatively calm in most situations. However, she has some difficulty taking the lead when the situation calls for it.

She is one of the three survivors.

  • Amateur Sleuth: Like the majority of Danganronpa protagonists, Kami leads the investigations and trials throughout the story, despite having no prior experience as a detective.
  • Amnesiac Hero: She starts off knowing only her name and ultimate talent. She's not alone though, everyone else is experiencing the same thing.
  • Color Motif: Pink.
  • Hanahaki Disease: Kami is one of four characters infected with the disease for chapter five’s motive.
  • Idiot Hair - She has a round cowlick on top of her hair.
  • Pink Heroine: Kami is the protagonist of the story, decked out in pink.
  • The Protagonist: Kami is the protagonist and serves as the reader's point of view in the story.
  • Thinking Tic: Whenever she is thinking, she brings a finger to the side of her head

Maria

Ultimate Sheep Herder

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maria_52.png

"My name is Maria, as you've heard, and I'm the Ultimate Sheep Herder!"

Always happy and optimistic, it isn't hard for Maria to make friends. Because of this joyful and friendly attitude, making her your enemy is both difficult and something you do not want to happen.

She is the first victim of the killing game, having been struck on the head with a vase.

Roxanne

Ultimate Toxicologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roxanne_9.png

"I'm Roxanne, the Ultimate Toxicologist. I can't remember much else...I think this big syringe was used to hold those toxic things."

With a face that's either tired, annoyed, or upset, the quiet and stern Roxanne seems unapproachable. Coupled with the fact she has a giant syringe on her back, she can be seen as intimidating to some. However, if given the time of day, she might open up just a little bit.

  • Chekhov's Gun: Her syringe, previously pointed out as a potential weapon in her introduction, becomes useful in fighting against the monsters in her and Zoro's fun room in Chapter 2.
  • Iconic Item: The enormous syringe she wears on her back.
  • No Social Skills: Befitting of her intimidating looks, her attempts to socialize often come off as unnatural.
  • Playing with Syringes: Roxanne's weapon of choice.

Stella

Ultimate Pastry Chef

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stella_50.png

"My name is Stella, the Ultimate Pastry Chef! It's really nice to meet you all."

Stella is a sweet and motherly figure who doesn't hesitate at all to help other people out. She does have an air of mystery around her, though, due to her occasional...out-of-place actions.

  • Affectionate Nickname: She is referred to as “Stelly” by Lillie.
  • Blood from the Mouth: Has this in her death.
  • Color Motif: Yellow.
  • Dies Wide Open: Her corpse’s eyes are wide-open when the others find her.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Fitting her talent, Stella has cooked for the others on multiple occasions.
  • Half the Woman She Used to Be: Stella is killed by a guillotine bisecting her at the waist.
  • Hanahaki Disease: Stella is one of four characters infected with the disease for chapter five’s motive.
  • Improbable Hairstyle: Her hair seems to be...a bit improbable, especially considering what it’s supposed to look like.
  • The Reliable One: The cast tends to rely on Stella for both her cooking and for emotional support.
Kami: Faust started to cry...and Cyrus doesn’t know what to do.
Stella: ...So his first instinct was to come get me?
  • Romantic Wingman: To Sam, alongside Cyrillo, after finding out about his crush on Faust.
  • Sweet Baker: Often seen as nice (or too nice in some people’s eyes) it’s fair to say this could fit in with her talent.
  • Team Mom: Described as a motherly figure, Stella is frequently seen caring for and comforting others.

Lillie

Ultimate Human Subject

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lillie_8.png

"W-Well...My name is...Lillie...I-I'm the Ultimate Human Subject..."

Teary-eyed and nervous, it's very likely for Lillie to cry before someone could even start speaking to her. As a result of her Ultimate, that being Human Subject, she has multiple strange physical mutations, such as blue skin, red eyes, sharp teeth, and a long tongue.

She is the culprit of Chapter 3.

Flidgey

Ultimate Pilot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flidgey_8.png

"Name's Flidgey, Ultimate Pilot and extreme storyteller!"

While Flidgey lacks the intelligence, impulse control, and height of her classmates, she makes up with loudness, brutal honesty, and a persistence that never seems to burn out.

She is the 2nd victim of the Killing Game, being knocked out and locked in a fridge to freeze to death.

  • Ace Pilot: Her ultimate talent is that she’s this.
  • Adventurer Outfit: Befitting her talent of the Ultimate Pilot.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Her hair only reaches the top of her neck.
  • Brutal Honesty: Flidgey, as stated before, lacks impulse control, which can make her quite blunt.
  • Death by Irony: Flidgey refers to herself as a “never ending flame...that’s never burning out”...before being frozen to death mere hours later.
  • First Friend: Becomes this to Maya.
  • Morality Pet: To Maya, though it is Downplayed as Maya isn’t really a bad person.
  • Plucky Girl: She’s incredibly persistent.
  • Rasputinian Death: After being beaten unconscious, she did not die until after being locked in the refrigerator for several hours.
  • Shipper on Deck: Flidgey is shown to ship Sam and Faust in-story.

Maya

Ultimate Clothes Designer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maya_99.png

"...And you can call me Maya, the Ultimate Clothes Designer."

Maya is extremely aloof. She dislikes most of her classmates and even insults them every so often. Even so, some people say that she desires to improve herself as a person. The answer as to whether or not that is true will be a mystery...for now.

Wimessir

Ultimate Servant

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wim.png

"You can call me Wimessir, the Ultimate Servant. Your happiness is of upmost importance to me!"

As the Ultimate Servant, the always-singing Wimessir can consistently be relied on. She is always willing to lend a hand to everyone, even to the point of extreme enthusiasm. She is the culprit of Chapter 2, fooled by Apollo into thinking that Flidgey was out to kill her. Because of this she repeatedly bludgeoned her with a baseball bat and stored her corpse in the facility's fridge.

Sapphire

Ultimate Ice Sculptor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sapphire_98.png

"Name's Sapphire, Ultimate Ice Sculptor. Ice sculpting is a delicate art form that takes many years to perfect."

Cold is the best word to describe Sapphire. If she's not ignoring you, she would talk to you in a slightly blunt, albeit not insulting way. And that's if you're in good terms with her.

Sylvia

Ultimate Jack-Of-All-Trades

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sylvia_18.png

"She's the Ultimate Jack-Of-All-Trades, master of none, but she's better than a master of one...And she's here tonight to grace you with her presence...The one...And the only...SYLVIA! MAKES HER ENTRANCE!!!"

She is one of the three survivors.

  • Ax-Crazy: The morning following the chapter five trial, Sylvia threatens the group with her axe, she ends up chopping a cafeteria table in half.
  • Cat Eared Hood: She is seen wearing a hoodie with unspecified animal ears attached.

    The Mastermind

Monoloin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monoloin_6.png

"Your new headmaster is...riiiiiight here!"

Despite being the headmaster of the Killing Game, Monoloin acts like a little kid who learned curse words for the first time. She comes off as extremely loud, obnoxious, and annoying. Under certain circumstances, however, she can show off a...creepier side to her personality.

  • Big Bad: She is the main antagonist of Danganmon.
  • The Corrupter: Monoloin gives out motives for the sake of causing discord and urging the participants to kill.
  • The Dragon: Monoloin admits herself, that she's indeed working with someone higher up, the mastermind.

  • For the Evulz: Monoloin provides no particular reason for the killing game's existence other than her own amusement.
  • Hanging Judge: Kill anyone for any reason, and she'll execute you no matter what.
  • The Napoleon: Monoloin is an imposing headmaster, despite being the shortest character, being at a height of 134cm.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: This is especially evident during her morning and nighttime announcements.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: She fills the role of Monokuma.
  • Torture Technician: Refer to how she executes the culprits.
  • V-Sign: Featured in her sprites and introductory CG.
