The North

    Oran

Oran Graile

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oranlook.png
The protagonist of Prodigal and the upcoming game Veritus, who stole his parent's money and sailed south many years ago, only returning home after being informed of their passing.
  • Anime Hair: He wears his hair in ponytail that spikes upwards.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Played with. He wears blue, has blue eyes, and it's his main color in the overworld, but after resolving to fix his mistake of helping Bolivar and completing Colorgrave's trial, she rewards him with his grandfather's colors, which turns his sprite green as well as make him strong enough to defeat Bolivar. As of Veritus, he seems to have gone back to blue, although his hair tie is green.
  • Chick Magnet: The majority of female characters in Prodigal can fall in love with him.
  • Curse: Word of God says that the reason his luck stat at the start of Prodigal is at 0 is because he's cursed, and it's possible that it might also be the reason behind Pa and the Sheriff dying not long after he returns home, as well as the storm that happens when he tries to run away again. It's likely that this curse was caused by something he did during his time in the South, but we never find out what it is.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: He is able to defeat Bolivar with most of his power back, and his true form of Var via 11th-Hour Superpower. While he doesn't actually kill him, it's said by a few characters that Var won't be coming back for a while. He's also able to fight Armadel, the God of Life, enough to get her to give him the Life Blessing.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He may have stolen from his parents and ran away, but even he doesn't approve of vandalizing someone's grave.
  • Happily Married: No matter which girl you decide to marry in Prodigal, Oran will be happy with either of them, as shown in the post-game epilogue.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes through this after recovering from Bolivar's betrayal, blaming himself for the deaths of Pa Darrow and Sheriff Vann and being unable to focus on most things or listen to anyone until he attempts to sail south again.
  • Heroic Mime: Downplayed. While he doesn't talk to any of the other characters onscreen in Prodigal, he still talks to himself and the player, and provides the descriptions for items you obtain and objects you can examine.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames himself heavily when it turns out the items Bolivar wanted him to retrieve were so he could reclaim his power, since it resulted in Bolivar killing Pa and the Sheriff. He's so upset that he thinks he should have never returned to Vann's Point, even though Bolivar would have probably found someone else to help him instead.
  • Meaningful Name: His name seems to be a reference to ore, tying in with him being a miner.
  • Mysterious Past: Downplayed; While we know a bit about his life in the North before he ran away, we don't know much about what he did during his time in the South, only that he dated Aura, somehow got cursed, and at one point encountered a "Southern Witch".
  • Prodigal Hero: Played with. While he didn't exactly live in luxury before he ran away, he did have a loving family, and there initially aren't any threats for him to face when he returns after his parents have died. Then after Bolivar's betrayal, he runs away again, gets lost, and then Amadeus rescues him and takes him back home, where he eventually faces Bolivar in order to save the North and avenge his grandfather.
  • The Runaway: Prior to the start of Prodigal, he ran away south after stealing 400 Gold from his parents. The exact reason he left is unclear, since they weren't bad people, but it's implied that Oran simply didn't enjoy their way of life and wanted to do something else. He attempts to run away again after Bolivar betrays him and kills Pa and Sheriff Vann, but doesn't get very far and ends up stranded before being brought back to Vann's Point by Amadeus.
  • Shadow Walker: The Dread Hand gives him the ability to teleport himself and other people with the power of Shadow, and sometimes it also acts on its own. It's actually a piece of Veritus, the God of Shadow.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: One NPC initially mistakes him for his father, and another mentions that he smells like him. At the end of the Reflective Crypt, if you've paid your debt and obtained the harmonica, Oran will notice while looking in a mirror that he looks a lot like his father, who is shown to have the same sticking-up ponytail. This is taken further in Veritus, where Oran now has a beard like his father did.
  • Time-Passage Beard: He has a beard in Veritus, which takes place about fifteen years later.
    Pa

"Pa" Darrow Graile

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_pa_1_2.png
A blacksmith at Vann's Point, and Oran's grandfather.
  • Loved by All: The majority of Vann's Point looks up to him, with several of them even calling him Pa even though they're not related to him.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: He lost both his son and his daughter-in-law when they died at the Frontier.
  • Shipper on Deck: He seems to favor Oran being with his childhood friend Keaton, telling him that he'll be happy if Oran marries her.
    Sheriff Vann

Sheriff Richard Vann

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_vann_1_1.png
The Sheriff of Vann's Point; he comes from a noble family who once lived in a castle, but abandoned it after getting involved with a mysterious blade.
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: His sword is sharp enough to cut through metal, as demonstrated when he uses it to cut Siska's mecha in half with a single slash. Later on, Hugh uses it to cut through an even bigger mecha in the same way. It was made by the Akninai from a special metal called Akinite, which may or may not be magic.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: As Sheriff, his main job is to keep Vann's Point as safe as possible, which he is looked up to for. He also doesn't arrest Oran for theft upon his return, instead telling him to keep out of trouble, and when he catches Oran heading to Castle Vann after bringing back the sword his father and grandfather were involved with, he asks him why rather than accuse him of purposefully doing anything bad.
    Hugh

Deputy Hugh Parish

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_hugh_1_1.png
Sheriff Vann's second in command, and one of Oran's childhood friends.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: One of the people he can marry is Caroline, who he's known since childhood since they were both orphans who grew up under Father Xavier. Curse Crackers: For Whom The Belle Toils shows that this marriage is canon.
  • Cowardly Lion: He gets startled quite easily, and worries about whenever Siska might appear since it's often very sudden. He also has trouble asserting himself, as shown when he easily lets Ashwood's Butler escape. However, after being captured by Siska, he finally stands up for himself when she is about to fight Oran with her biggest mecha yet, cutting it clean in half, and he eventually gains enough confidence to face a group of pirates, also breaking free after being imprisoned by them.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: He is this to both Caroline and Siska, either of whom he can marry, being more serious and level-headed when compared to the playful Caroline or the boisterous Siska.
  • You Are in Command Now: He ends up becoming the new Sheriff following Vann's death, having inherited not just his position but also his sword.
    Nora

Nora Dent

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_nora_1_1.png
A librarian at Vann's Point, and twin sister of Tess.
  • Exposition Fairy: Downplayed; in Prodigal, she gives information on where to find the next area you's supposed to visit, but stays at the library all the time and you can only get this information from her if you talk to her (although at least one instance has you being directed to her for advice). In the post-game, she tells you it's better to get information from Crocodile for what to do in order to get the "Hero's Rest" ending.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: She's much more organised compared to Tess, who has trouble sleeping and has loose, messy hair in contrast to Nora's up-do.
    Tess

Tess Dent

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_tess_1_1.png
A coffee-addicted shoe shop owner, and twin sister of Nora.
  • Caffeine Failure: She drinks coffee to stay awake at night and avoid having nightmares about how she caused the death of her mother, but it results in her being very tired during the day, often falling asleep mid-conversation.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She eventually reveals that she and Nora lost both their parents; their father died first and she ended up making a deal with Var to free a monster that was trapped in the Haunted Hall in exchange for a chance to see him again. However, she had no idea what she was dealing with, and it's implied that the monster she released killed her mother.
  • Must Have Caffeine: She drinks coffee just about all the time to the point where she's addicted and doesn't sleep very well, but after completing the Haunted Hall dungeon in Prodigal, she decides she will try to stop.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Her sister Nora is more organised and has her hair styled, while Tess is addicted to coffee, falls asleep at work a lot, and has messy hair.
  • Sleepyhead: Her coffee addiction means she doesn't sleep well at night, causing her to randomly fall asleep during the day instead.
    Father Xavier
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_xavier_1_1.png
A priest at the Church of Raem, who also looks after orphans.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: His eyebrows are so huge that they cover his normal eyes.
  • Good Shepherd: He looks after orphans, decides to give some cursed remains that Oran found a proper burial, and is able to remove a curse from a pickaxe by blessing it with Raem's light. His church also has an infirmary where Lynn works in healing.
  • Parental Substitute: He looked after Hugh, River, and Caroline when they were children, acting as a father figure towards them.
    Keaton
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_keaton_1_1.png
A childhood friend of Oran's, she now works at her parent's inn and occasionally sings.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She and Oran were friends as children, and Pa thinks that Oran should marry her. Early in the Prodigal, Bolivar refers to Oran visiting her as a budding romance.
  • Supreme Chef: In Prodigal, she provides 3 buffs in the form of delicious foods, and a few characters mention that she makes really good meals; even Bolivar thinks so. In the "Hero's Rest" ending, she moves away and takes over a failing inn that soon becomes very popular thanks to her cooking.
    Amadeus

Captain Amadeus Crowl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_amadeus_1_1.png
A pirate who was executed by drowning, but somehow came back from the dead; he now serves as the protector of the North, dealing with anything that is too powerful for the Sheriff.
  • Ambiguously Human: He appears to be human, but he's so huge that his sprite doesn't have the same format as all the other human characters, and it's implied through some dialogue in the Colorless Void that he comes from there, but it's unknown if he always came from there or if he started living there for a bit after his execution.
  • Deal with the Devil: It's hinted a few times that he traded some of his color to Colorgrave in exchange for his power so that he could protect the North. This comes back to bite him when she decides he is no longer needed as its protector, taking away the rest of his color and planning to use him for another purpose.
  • Ghost Pirate: He certainly looks like one, but it's unclear if he really is a ghost, or if he's alive or undead. A record of his execution does say that his body went missing...
  • Good Is Not Nice: He is rather gruff and antagonistic towards anyone from the south, and is especially mean to Oran, calling him "southern trash" and saying that nothing he does to try and make up to his parents will work now that they're dead. He does have a change of heart after Bolivar's betrayal, going out of his way to find Oran after he runs away again and bring him back to Vann's Point so that he can avenge his grandfather and fix his mistakes, but even then he is still coarse towards him. His first scene in Prodigal also has him kill a visiting lord and his soldiers when he threatens Keaton.
  • Heroic Willpower: Deconstructed. He's strongly suggested to be under Colorgrave's control when Oran finds him in the Colorless Void without his color, but manages to hold back and tells Oran to defeat and possibly even kill him. Unfortunately, Colorgrave sends him away before Oran can do so, and her dialogue suggests that she will learn from this experience and make sure he can't resist her influence again.
  • Seadog Beard: He has a very bushy beard, and was a pirate.
    Lynn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_lynn_1_1.png
A healer and daughter of a farmer, who spends most of her time working but occasionally paints pictures.
  • All There in the Manual: Accodring to the Prodigal's official manual, her full name is Marylynn.
  • Cowardly Lion: Part of her marriage quest in Prodigal has her being afraid when her father goes to fight a beast that injured him and killed her sister years ago, and asking Oran to accompany her. Even then, she is still scared, but decides she must face her fear anyway. In general, despite being shy, she does have moments of bravery.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair and is one of the nicest characters in Prodigal, as well as a healer.
  • Healing Hands: Talking to her when your HP isn't full in Prodigal will have her heal you, and it's shown that she's the one who heals you after you lose all your HP. You're also required to find her so she can heal Kir Hasa after Crocodile attacks her. It's implied that she doesn't actually use magic, though, but the characters she treats all recover very quickly.
  • I Have This Friend: Does this during her marriage path in Prodigal, telling you that she has a friend who likes you, but later admitting that she's the one who likes you.
  • The Medic: She spends part of her day at the church's infirmary, and heals you in Prodigal if you talk to her without a full HP bar, or if you are knocked out. In the "Hero's Rest" ending, two of her possible endings include travelling elsewhere to teach other people about healing.
  • Shrinking Violet: She blushes and covers her face with her hands quite a bit, most notably after healing you, and during her marriage quest she'll initially claim that a friend of hers has feelings for you, but eventually tells you that it's actually her.
    River
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_river_1_1.png
An angler who is pretty sour towards Oran for what he did to his parents. She is also the protagonist of the upcoming game Howling Crown.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She attempted to take over Oran's parent's job of leading expeditions at the Frontier, but a creature attacked the group of people she was with, and she was too scared to do anything about it, resulting in their deaths. She felt so guilty about it that she returned to Vann's Point and spent the rest of her days fishing, but their spirits came back to haunt her.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She's cold to Oran at first (the manual for Prodigal even lists him as her dislike), and angry at him for stealing from his parents, but she eventually warms up to him when she sees how much he's changed, and when he helps to defend her from some Wraiths.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is River and she's associated with water, with her colours consisting mainly of blue and green and her main job being fishing.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: She generally looks rather scruffy, but in Prodigal she wears a beautiful dress for her wedding with her hair in a neater style.
  • Survivor Guilt: She feels very broken up about her fear leading to a group of peple being killed, and the fact that she was the only one who survived because she ran away. It doesn't help that she's literally being haunted by their ghosts.
    Tara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_tara_1_1.png
A regular at the Crocasino, who spends most of her time gambling.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: During her marriage quest in Prodigal, Hugh tells her that he needs some money to help fix the church, and when she asks him why that's so important, he says it's because he was raised there. Shortly after, she'll ask you for 700 Gold; if you pay it to her, it will turn out that she left it to Hugh so he could fix the church with it. It's strongly hinted that this is because she is actually Hugh's mother.
  • Gold Digger: In Prodigal, she expresses interest in Ashwood, but it becomes quickly apparent that she only wants him for his wealth. Whether he learns the truth about this or not is up to you.
  • The Gambling Addict: She is almost always found at the Crocasino, and at one point mentions that she's gambled all her money away, which is why she got the idea of marrying Ashwood in order to get it back. The "Hero's Rest" ending in Prodigal shows that even if she does marry Ashwood, she quickly loses the money she takes from him when she runs off.
    Siska
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_siska_1_1.png
An engineer and self-proclaimed destroyer who keeps trying to take over Vann's Point.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears a pair of large, round goggles, adding to her youthful appearance.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Her hat has the letter "S" on it for her name.
  • Hidden Depths: When she interrupts Keaton's performance in Prodigal, she plays a guitar and is shown to be quite good at it.
  • Incoming Ham: A lot of her entrances involve her shouting or laughing loudly, sometimes after breaking down a wall.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She didn't know Sheriff Vann was dead until Hugh told her, although this is less because of people witholding it from her and more because she didn't try to find out.
  • No Social Skills: She seems to think showing up unexpectedly in a mecha, interrupting a concert by breaking down the wall, and kidnapping the new Sheriff to get someone to rescue him are all good ways to make friends. After being told that they're not, she tries to make friends the normal way, often commenting about how unusual she finds it.
  • Tomboyish Baseball Cap: She has a boisterous personality, works with machinery, and has shorter hair than most of the other girls in Prodigal, and she wears a baseball cap with her first initial on it.
  • Wrench Wench: She builds mechas and other machinery, and has a workshop filled with large nuts and bolts.
    Caroline
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_caroline_1_1.png
An orphaned woman who likes getting into trouble.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: She's one of the people that Hugh can marry, having known him since childhood since they were both orphans taken in by Father Xavier. Curse Crackers reveals that this is the canon marriage, as she has a daughter called Ema Parish.
  • Exposed to the Elements: In Prodigal when it's snowing, there's a certain time of the day where she can be seen happily dancing outside the Crocasino, still in her Playboy Bunny outfit.
  • Expressive Accessory: Her bunny ears will sometimes move depending on the emotions she's conveying.
  • Older and Wiser: When she appears in Curse Crackers, she is about 10 years older and more mature compared to Prodigal, especially since she now has a daughter.
  • Pirate Girl: During your trip to the Pirate's Pier in Prodigal, she dresses in an outfit that's more appropriate than her usual one, possibly to blend in better. It's also revealed in the "Hero's Rest" ending that Amadeus is her father. Her outfit in Curse Crackers also looks reminiscent of a pirate's.
  • Playboy Bunny: Her main outfit as part of the Crocasino. Interestingly, she doesn't wear the collar and bow tie in Prodigal like some of the other staff do, but she does wear it on the cover and in the manual. She keeps wearing the outfit even when temporarily hiding from Crocodile, and after she takes over the casino, just because she thinks it's cute. When she appears in Curse Crackers she wears a different outfit, but by then a decade has passed.

Ashford

    Ashwood

Lord Festus Ashwood

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_ash_6_1.png
A lord from the South who is hoping to form an alliance between the North and the kingdom of Ashford.
  • Last-Name Basis: He prefers to be called Ashwood.
  • Not a Morning Person: He can be found in his bedroom in the morning each day in Prodigal, and tells you that he's "still waking up." If he marries Lynn, he'll mention how he's having to get used to waking up early every morning to work on the farm.
  • Stepford Smiler: Becomes this after his Maid is killed by his Butler, who is implied to have also been planning to kill him. In Prodigal, talking to him after the dinner party where the aforementioned event happens has him calmly mention how nice of a day it is. However, it's clear that he's unhappy, as it's shown that he's started drinking more, and he isn't very good at his attempts to do his own chores. He seems to cheer up if he marries Lynn, even if he does have to get up early to do work on her family's farm.
    Butler

Stindle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_butler_1_1_8.png
Ashwood's Butler who seems to have a preference for the South.
  • Bodyguard Betrayal: He is revealed to be working for Revulan, and it's implied that he was plotting to kill Ashwood before being found out by the Maid, whose murder by him brought his true motives to light.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Everyone just refers to him as "Butler", which gets lampshaded at one point where Oran finds a letter written by someone called Stindle and wonders if that's his name.
  • Uncertain Doom: When trying to escape through the Crystal Caves, the water freezes while he's still in it, and it's unclear if it really did kill him or not.

Mon Moa

    Crocodile

Gar Isah

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_crocodile_1_1.png
The owner of the Crocasino, and one of the Mon Moan people.
  • Ambiguously Human: Seems to invoke this in the "Hero's Rest" ending of Prodigal, with rumors being spread that he isn't a human or mortal because of how powerful his influence is. Further supporting this is the fact that Sir Oswin Vann's son apparently worked with him at one point, which would have been at least a few decades ago, yet he doesn't look very old.
  • Animal Motifs: Crocodiles, of course. His main color is green, it's his namesake, and although he acts friendly, you do not want to get on his bad side.
  • Collector of the Strange: He has a collection of lots of different artifacts. While the Ora Moa that he has on display is fake (with the real one being in the Backrooms), the armor belonging to Torran, a hero from the past, is very real.
  • Green and Mean: He wears green and is working with Revulan, and even though he doesn't try to kill Oran, he still makes him sign a contract in order to complete a quest and he's the one gives him the key to the Castle Vann Crypt, leading to the Dread Hand, something that a few characters warn Oran about, becoming more powerful.
  • Karma Houdini: Downplayed; after he tries to have Caroline killed for escaping from his prison, Amadeus warns him to leave her alone and tells him to leave Vann's Point, but he was planning on leaving anyway, and as we find out in Prodigal's epilogue, he becomes the leader of his own city. Played straighter when he attacks and almost fatally wounds Kir Hasa, but doesn't get punished for it; even though he does end up losing the Ora Moa to her, it's not without something in his favor, as he makes Oran sign a contract in exchange for access to the Backrooms where it is kept.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Played with; Amadeus tells him to leave Caroline alone and that he should move away from Vann's Point, and he knows better than to mess with a powerful undead pirate, but he was already planning to leave anyway.
  • Meaningful Rename: An easy-to miss line of dialogue from him reveals that his original name was Gar Isah, but he changed it to Crocodile at some point in his past when he started collecting artifacts and making connections with different people.
    Kir Hasa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_kir_3_1.png
A Mon Moan who visits Vann's Point in order to retrieve ancient artifact of her people.
  • Animal Motifs: She's mostly associated with rabbits, trying to bait the ones that are sometimes seen around Vann's Point so she can befriend them, and getting involved with the Crocasino, where the staff wear bunny costumes.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She's very fond of rabbits, spending some of her time in the areas where they can be seen, and at one point asking you to bring some carrots to her (although this turns out to be a distraction). Her "wedding" picture in Prodigal also shows her with a rabbit called Miya Bolo that she adopted, who will also appear in the house afterwards.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Possibly. After her failed attempt at stealing the Ora Moa back from Crocodile, she asks Oran to do it for her, leading to him having to sign a contract from Crocodile in order to access it. It's hinted that said contract is what leads to either the assassination of King Regnir and Revulan claiming even more power over the south, or Veritus being brought back together.

Estarosa

    Mariana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_mari_1_1.png
A former army commander from the south who runs the arena challenges in Prodigal.
  • Action Girl: You never fight her directly in Prodigal, but it can be assumed that she can easily take on all the enemies she makes you fight in her challenges, she is seen training Lynn at one point, and it's implied that she fought some pirates offscreen at the Bjerg Castle.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: After completing the Bjerg Castle dungeon and defeating its boss in Prodigal, she tells you that you have no choice but to marry her, and it will immediately cut to the wedding.
  • Covered with Scars: As her wedding picture in Prodigal shows, she has quite a few scars on her arms from the battles she's fought, and possibly more that we can't see.
  • Memorial Statue: In the "Hero's Rest" ending of Prodigal, it's shown that she eventually died while defending Vann's Point, and had a statue made in her honor.
  • Non-Indicative Name: She properly introduces herself as Mariana of Ashford, and she was once a commander of an Ashford army, but if you marry her, she'll tell you her home country is actually Estarosa.
    Bolivar

Var

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_bolivar_1_1.png
Pa's blacksmithing apprentice from Estarosa, who asks Oran for help to repair a sword.

For his tropes, see Colorgrave Universe Gods And Associates

Other Characters

    Oakley
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_oakley_1_1.png

Click here to see her in Curse Crackers
The local alchemist who runs a potion shop.
  • Alchemy Is Magic: She's referred to as an alchemist or herbalist and makes potions and other magical items.
  • Ambiguously Human: She looks like a normal human, but she can be found in a very hard to find room in Curse Crackers, she appears to have pointy ears and a scorpion tail. It's unclear if this is her true appearance or if it's based on abilities she was granted by Colorgrave.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Her eyebrows are very thick and dark.
  • The Cameo: In Curse Crackers, she can be found in the Colorless Void during Bonnie's visit to rescue Belle.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She gets very clingy towards Oran during her marriage quest in Prodigal, telling some of the other girls that he is hers and hers alone.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Her color scheme consists of purple and black, and she brews potions and even talks about creating poisons, but she provides useful buffs in Prodigal and is on your side. This wasn't always the case, though, since she used to work for Revulan and even tells you at one point that she has killed before.
  • Master Poisoner: You can't buy any poisons from her, but she still talks about making them. It's implied that she used to be an assassin for Revulan, killing people by poisoning them.
  • Meaningful Rename: When she served under Revulan, her name was Zatra, which some people still refer to her as. After Grant convinced her to change her ways, she either changed her name or started going by her last name instead.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: She's close with Grant the gravedigger, with them both wanting to protect each other, and it's suggested that they live in the same house. It's also revealed that Grant was the one who convinced her to defect from Revulan's forces, and in the "Hero's Rest" ending of Prodigal, if you haven't married her, she attempts to get revenge when she hears that Grant has been killed.
    Gravedigger

Grant

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_gravedigger_1_1.png
The local Gravedigger who is more than he appears.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He digs graves, dresses mostly in dark purple, and at one point in Prodigal you can even spy on some people for him, but he is on the side of the North. That said, you don't want to make him think you're a threat to him or Oakley, or he'll stab you.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Downplayed. His dialogue boxes in Prodigal refer to him as "Gravedigger", and he tells you that's what you can call him, but his name is revealed to be Grant quite early on, with a few characters calling him that.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: He's shown to be close with Oakley, wanting to keep her safe (with her wanting the same for him). They're implied to live in the same house, and they're also described as being like family even though they're not actually related.
    Illy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_illy_1_1.png

Click here to see her in Curse Crackers
A woman who works for Crocodile, though it seems she does more than card games...
  • Ascended Extra: In Prodigal, she doesn't do much more than run a card game that you can play for points. She has a bigger role as a supporting character in Veritus.
  • The Cameo: She makes an appearance in Curse Crackers in the Tower that becomes available to go inside by achieving one of the Elite Feats.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She's rather sarcastic when you play her game in Prodigal, and quite snarky when talking to her in Curse Crackers.
    Zaegul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_zaegul_1_1.png
An honest merchant of the Raspus who came to the North.
  • Accidental Misnaming: In Prodigal, if "Oran" is left as the default name for the player character, Zaegul will call him "Urn".
  • Character Blog: He has a Twitter account here.
  • Honest John's Dealership: Played with in that he claims to be honest and that his prices are fair, which seem like exactly the sort of thing said by someone who isn't honest, and the way he smiles doesn't help, but most of the time his prices and offers are reasonable.
  • Secret Shop: Before you complete the main story of Prodigal, you can only find him in the warehouse at night, and you'll only be able to sell to him. In the post-game and New Game Plus, once you find the Harmonica you can play it near the rock formation in the Tidal Mines, revealing it to be a turtle who then leaves, allowing you access to Zaegul's secret shop where you can buy extra Normal Keys, Ice Keys (an alternative to Crystal Keys), and other items that you would normally have to find in a dungeon or sidequest, making it useful for speedruns or if you're playing with the randomizer option.
     Shadow Oran
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/port_sor_1_1.png
A shadow copy of Oran who is first encountered during Colorgrave's trial.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear exactly where he originated from. He is first found in the Colorless Void as part of Colorgrave's trial, but later reappears at Daemon's Dive. It's possible that he could have been created from the Dread Hand, but that raises the question of why he tells Oran not to trust it after being defeated in combat.
  • Enemy Without: He seems to be Oran's more selfish side brought to life, unhappy at Oran disagreeing with him about wanting to leave his friends behind again, and hating the idea of being nice to people.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: During his "battle" in the Colorless Void in Prodigal, he takes on the forms of Pa, Keaton, and Hugh when talking about how Oran doesn't really care about them and should leave Vann's Point again.
  • Superboss: He's the final boss of Daemon's Dive and one of the hardest bosses in Prodigal, having 3 phases with unforgiving attacks.
    Aura

Click here to see her in Curse Crackers
A mysterious woman who can see the future, and who Oran knows from his travels.
  • Ambiguously Human: She looks mostly human except for her pointy ears, indicating that she's of another race, and she doesn't have any of the other physical features that the gifted Ledamrans have. It's unknown if she's an unseen Lyrian race, or if she's from a different world altogether.
  • Amicable Exes: Possibly. It's strongly hinted (and confirmed by the developers) that she and Oran used to date, and she doesn't seem at all unhappy to see him, still calling him "dearest", but Oran's own feelings about her aren't made clear, and it's not stated why they broke up.
  • Seers: She seems to have the ability to see the future, either with a crystal ball or with her own abilities, or both. In both Prodigal and Curse Crackers, she awards players who achieve Elite Feats with prophecies of things that will happen in the future, though she suggests that they may not be set in stone.

Alternative Title(s): Prodigal
