Zebrica

    open/close all folders

    General
  • The Dreaded: The Ratels - Pony-sized, sapient Honey Badgers - are the only tribes and nations on Zebrica who had been consistently able to successfully resist domination by outside colonial powers and other Zebrican natives for many generations. Whether alone or as a whole, their strength, cunning, endurance, adaptability and sheer ferocity made many conquerors wary of messing with them.
Princess Bright Eyes: Even back in our day, we know better than to mess with Honey Badgers.
  • Evil Colonialist: Suffering a proverbial plague of them at the present time, with the main Zebra Pantheon unable to intervene much due to a promise given in the time of the Empire of Zinabi by Queen Mzazi to not interfere with her mortal children's lives which due to wording she could not easily weasel her way out of, leaving the mortal Zebras and other races largely hapless before the more advanced imperialists and colonialists invading the continent, barring a miracle or the oath somehow being retracted.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Zebrica is based on Africa, especially during its war-torn, 'besieged by imperial nations' period. For bonus points, it went by the alternate name of "Zebrafrica" during the Second Age.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: A Zebrican historian realized during his studies that a major part of Zebrica's troubles were brought about because of ancient Zebrakind's collective arrogance, which led to Queen Mzazi swearing an oath of divine non-interference after a Zebra precursor civilization made it clear they didn't appreciate her help. Peers and colleagues had noted that this revelation crushed the Zebrican historian's spirit so much that he fell into a depression that lasted months. Fortunately, a "mysterious figure" who resembled a First Zebra (implied to be none other than a disguised Queen Mzazi) would help him recover from it.
Zebrican historian: (lamenting) Oh, how foolish our ancestors were! In the height of their achievements, wealth, and success, they believed themselves to be above the gods, and drove away their own mother goddess with their hubris! Now our children and our children's children will continue to suffer the consequences, besieged by greedy and ambitious imperials from all directions, until someone does something about it!
  • Laser-Guided Karma: An ancient precursor Zebra civilization became so successful and wealthy that they believed themselves to be above the gods, and made Queen Mzazi swear an oath of divine non-interference by making it clear they want her out of their lives. This led to Zebrica being left almost completely unprotected, constantly besieged inside and out by ambitious and greedy factions like the Kings of the Summer Changeling Court, while the current generations of Zebra continue to suffer from the consequences of their ancestors' mistakes.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Zebrica and its people would continue to suffer from warlords and imperialistic factions seeking to conquer the country, all because a precursor Zebra civilization became arrogant and complacent enough to make Queen Mzazi swear an oath of non-interference out of belief that they were above the gods themselves. Discovering the root cause of many of Zebrica's problems caused one Zebrican historian to fall into a months-long depression, lamenting the harm his ancestors' hubris had wrought. Fortunatelly, a disguised Queen Mzazi would comfort him and bring him out of his funk.

  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: She was initially mistaken for a malevolent witch due to their unfamiliarity with her, her practice of alchemy, and her (to them) overall strange behavior.
  • Red Baron: She's known as "The Ghost of Everfree" due to how terrifying she is with her alchemy skills and territorial knowledge of the Everfree forest.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Despite being a malevolent witch at first, she never once begrudged her Pony neighbors for her mistreatment, and stayed in Ponyville even after said misconceptions were dispelled.

Kamili Empire

    General
  • Armor Is Useless: Subverted: one of their major advantages is King Kamili managing to develop cooling spells that allow them to easily use full plate armor in the continent's heat.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: Invoked: aggressive enemies who are defeated are assimilated, but treated as equals whose unique attributes will help the Empire as a whole.
  • Hegemonic Empire: A benevolent empire that prefers peacefully assimilating the war devastated kingdoms of Zebrafrica/Zebrica. They do conquer other kingdoms, but only when they're attacked first or the kingdom was aggressive, tyrannical, or going to be a threat in the future.
  • Hope Bringer: The Kamili Empire is considered this, as they're the continent's most benevolent faction that also stands a chance of winning the wars going on.

Kamilian Pantheon

    General
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: A few Kamilian deities so far had been rulers. King Kamili is the ruler/founder of both the Kamili Empire and its pantheon, and is a living Fusion Dance of three triplet Princes who requested Symvíosi to fuse them permanently so they could become The Good King Zebrica needed. King Mkakati and Queen Rasilimali are both acting rulers of both their own kingdoms and designated territories within the Kamili Empire. All three of them are benevolent authority figures who are working on improving living conditions in Zebrica and uniting all the warring factions in the country.

    King Kamili, the Unified King

Classification: Ethereal/Ascendant

Portfolio: Compassion, Ambition, Wisdom

Rank: Demigod

King Kamili (his entry here) is the Zebralicorn demigod of Compassion, Ambition, and Wisdom, and presently the demi-divine ruler of his namesake place, the Kamili Empire.
  • The Ace: The entire reason his components permanently merged into one — the triplet Princes of Kamili, Prince Hekima, Prince Tamaa, and Prince Wema, each had qualities of The Good King who could help their country thrive in the trials to come. Thus, he's a wise, compassionate, but driven king who is an adapt warrior and mage.
  • Alliterative Name: And title — his name is King Kamili.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: He's a Zebralicorn demigod who embodies Compassion, Ambition, and Wisdom.
  • Batman Gambit: He sired a daughter with Changeling Empress Blackrose, knowing the Changeling Kings of the Summer Court won't dare touch his empire thanks to the ancient treaties in place.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
  • Deity of Human Origin: He was originally a mortal triple fusion of three triplet Zebra Princes until he realized he couldn't keep protecting his country from threats like the Changeling Kings in that state. Symvíosi helped him train for Ascension, and despite the difficulty of doing that and ruling his country at the same time, he eventually managed to Ascend as the Zebralicorn of Compassion, Ambition, and Wisdom.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: His solution to protecting his Kamili Empire from the Changeling Kings of the Summer Court, among the most dangerous adversaries threatening his empire: Impressing and siring a daughter with Changeling Empress Blackrose of the Spring Court. King Kamili's daughter Princess Annulus was born literally hours before he confronted and revealed this to a Changeling King who was about to execute his schemes to dismantle and conquer the nascent Empire for his own ends, something which impressed even him.
  • Egopolis: Inverted. The country's name is Kamili, and he named himself after it upon his birth as the living fusion of three triplet Zebra Princes dedicated to its protection and prosperity.
  • The Emperor: While his title is King, in terms of actual position, he's this trope as the ruler of the Kamili Empire. He's a benevolent version of this trope, as he assimilates other kingdoms by either forming alliances with other kingdoms to join him willingly or conquering aggressors rather than just rampant conquest.
  • Fusion Dance: He was originally a trio of brothers, Hekima, Tamaa, and Wema, that had Symvíosi permanently merge them into one so they could combine their traits to make the king their country needed.
  • Hope Bringer: His birth and formation of the Kamili Empire are one of these for Zebrafrica, as they're powerful enough to stand toe to toe with the other conquering factions ravaging the continent, but also benevolent and The Good King. This is why the Kamili Empire is known as 'Hope of Zebrica/Zebrafrica'.
  • Magic Knight: Justified. One of his components was an skilled mage while another was a skilled warrior. Being a living fusion of them means that Kamili gained the innate skill and experience of both areas.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Unified King", due to being motivated to unify all of Zebrica, and being the living fusion of three triplet Zebra Princes who requested for Symvíosi to turn them into the ideal King that Zebrica needed.
  • Take a Third Option: Knowing that his choices and chances are limited when faced with the likes of the dreaded Changeling Kings of the Summer Court, he took an alternative option to guarantee the safety of his nascent empire from their schemes and depredations: Namely, finding Changeling Empress Blackrose of the Spring Court, impress her and sire a daughter with her, whose very presence would protect the Kamili Empire from the Changeling Kings under the 'Throne Accords'. Even the Changeling King whom he revealed this too was impressed by his unconventional thinking despite his own plans being foiled, to say nothing of him successfully courting the female counterpart of his own father/grandfather.
  • Top God: A "King of the Gods" example. He's the leader/founder of the Kamilian Pantheon, with Kufa, King Mkakati, and Queen Rasilimali being a few of its members.

    King Mkakati, the Strategic King

Classification: Ethereal/Ascendant

Portfolio: Strategy, War, Geography

Rank: Demigod

"The best strategists are those who know when to fight... and when discretion is better part of valour."

King Mkakati (his entry here) is the Giraffe demigod of Strategy, War, and Geography, and is one of King Kamili's most trusted generals and subordinates.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: He's a Giraffe demigod who embodies Strategy, War, and Geography.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Ever since his father died horribly in a chemical gas attack, he had to assume the throne and deal with almost everyone in his kingdom calling for a military retaliation against his father's killers. While he made the good choice of siding with King Kamili (which led to him Ascending to demi-godhood under the latter's tutelage), he still feels insecure over his own ability to lead and rule, and constantly wonders if he's being the ideal king his father would've wanted in pursuing unification rather than revenge.
  • Deity of Human Origin: He was once a mortal Giraffe Crown Prince-turned-King, but he later Ascended to demi-godhood after approaching King Kamili with the request for an alliance against their respective kingdom/empire's enemies, which led to him being appointed as the acting ruler of a larger territory. By his own admission, his act of Ascension surprised him.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: One of his flaws is that he's one of King Kamili's most skilled and intelligent military strategists and warriors... but his calculating demeanor can make him come off as cold and distant to others.
  • Magic Hair: After becoming a demigod, his Pony-like mane and tail became composed of crimson energy.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Strategic King", due to being a skilled military strategist and a royal Giraffe demigod of Strategy who rules a kingdom that is allied with the Kamili Empire.
  • Telepathy: His domains of Strategy and Geography give him telepathic abilities. The former allows him to sense both the location and number of soldiers under his command, while the latter allows him to telepathically implant geographical information into the minds of his soldiers. However, it comes at the cost of knowing when and how many soldiers have died on the battlefield.
  • You Killed My Father: Averted. After his father, the King, was killed in a chemical gas attack (believed to have been caused by King Metriini of the Changeling Summer Court), he had to assume the throne in his place. Many in his kingdom, from his subjects up to his closest subordinates, called for a military retaliation, but he refused knowing that to do so alone would be foolhardy and it won't bring his father back. This factor influenced his decision to ally himself with King Kamili.
King Mkakati: (to his subjects) What is the point? It won't bring him back. And the strategy of attacking everyone alone cannot succeed... we need to do something else.

    Queen Rasilimali, the Planning Queen

Classification: Ascendant/Ethereal

Portfolio: Geography, Resource Management, City Planning

Rank: Demigod

"Every resource is important, but it takes great planning to know how to use them correctly and effectively."

Queen Rasilimali (her entry here) is the Elephant demigoddess of Geography, Resource Management, and City Planning, and is a former warlord who experienced a genuine change of heart and Ascended under King Kamili's tutelage.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's an Elephant demigoddess who embodies Geography, Resource Management, and City Planning.
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: She joined the Kamili Empire after being bested by Kamili and realizing she couldn't win. While it took time, this went from pragmatism on her part to them genuinely becoming allies.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Implied. She used to be a warlord who was bent on conquering the entirety of Zebrica in a similar manner to High Queen Sekra. When she was defeated by King Kamili, she surrendered and joined his empire with the initial goal of increasing her own glory through their alliance. However, King Kamili saw her potential to become a genuinely good queen and personally mentored her. This led to her genuinely changing her ways and Ascending to demi-godhood, becoming The High Queen in the end.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: She used to be a conquering warlord seeking to rule Zebrica. However, her conquest came to a screeching halt when her first battle with Kamili ended in defeat (implied to be quite decisive of one) and she realized she simply couldn't win against him. Rather than fight a doomed war she could never win, she surrendered and joined his Empire. This turned out to be a good choice.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Planning Queen".
  • Pragmatic Villainy: She surrendered and joined King Kamili's empire after he defeated her because to not do so would be extremely foolish. This had positive repercussions as King Kamili became her mentor after seeing the potential she has as The High Queen, leading to her Ascension as a truly benevolent demi-divine Elephant Queen.

    Kufa, the Inescapable Huntress

Classification: Ethereal/Ascendant

Portfolio: Death, Hunt, Justice

Rank: Demigod

Kufa (first introduced here) is the Great Lion demigoddess of Death, Hunt, and Justice, and is the overseer of a local Hell-Realm owned by the Kamilian Pantheon.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's a Great Lion demigoddess who embodies Death, Hunt, and Justice.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She's a Great Lion demigoddess of Death who is benevolent to the souls she ushers, and pities those who fear death. However, should someone try do something heinous like creating Judicial Replacements to weasel out of well-deserved fates, she'll furiously chase them across the Kamili Empire and drag them to her pantheon's local Hell-Realm.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: She's a benevolent Great Lion demigoddess of Death. She describes herself as being like "a cat curled by the fire" to those who accept death, and pities those who fear it. The same could not be said of those who try weaseling out of their well-deserved fate, particularly creators of Judicial Replacements.
  • Good Is Not Soft: She's a benevolent Death goddess in the Kamilian Pantheon, but she is enraged by those who try to escape their well-deserved punishments by sending innocents in their place. This includes users/creators of Judicial Replacements, who she had been hunting across the Kamili Empire and dragging to the Kamili Pantheon's local Hell-Realm.
Kufa: For those who fear death, I have pity. To those that accept it, I await them like a cat curled by the fire. But to you, who would send a innocent being to the punishment you deserved... RUN ALL YOU LIKE! YOU WILL NEVER ESCAPE MY CLAWS AND FANGS!
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Inescapable Huntress".
  • Panthera Awesome: She's a Great Lion demigoddess of Death, Hunt, and Justice, and she actively pursues those who try to escape their well-deserved punishments, especially by sending innocents in their place.

Notable Kamilian Individuals

    Umoja, the Topaz Paladin

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Neutral Good

Type: Kid hero, Mecha Pilot, Virgacorn, Divine Champion, Newtype

Faction: The Kamili Empire

Umoja (her entry here) is a Virgacorn filly and the talented pilot of the rebuilt Crystal Titan, Topaz Unity.

    Colonel Mfereji, the Sky Shark

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Neutral Good

Type: Bodyguard, Ace Pilot, Heroic Support, Zebrican Kelpie, !!!'''Military Commander, Soldier, Mecha Pilot

Faction: Kamili Empire, Walezi Wenye Mabawa Division

Colonel Mfereji (profile here) is a Kamilian airforce Colonel and leader of Umoja's support group, the Walezi Wenye Mabawa Division.
  • Ace Pilot: He joined the Kamilian Air Force when he came of age and proved himself a very adapt pilot to the point of earning the moniker 'the Sky Shark.' He was given a Mass Production Colossus with flight capabilities to support Umoja and Topaz Unity and continues to be excellent at using it.
  • Cool Big Bro: He acts like a supportive older brother to Umoja on top of being her support and bodyguard.
  • Making a Splash: He's a Zebrican Kelpie, and thus a water elemental capable of powerful hydrokinesis. As he's also made of water, he's immune to g-forces with the right accommodations and thus can pilot his Super Prototype Mass Production Colossus.
  • Men of Sherwood: The leader of a group of them that acts as support for Umoja and Topaz Unity. While nowhere near as powerful, they're good enough pilots to provide critical support in battle. Mfereji and two other members get Production Type Colossus units, which are still much weaker but allow them to contribute even more.
  • Super Prototype: His personal Mass Production Colossus is the prototype version of the High Mobility type his wingmen use. While more powerful and capable of independent flight on top of being much faster and more agile, it was too expensive and the g-forces were far too hard on a normal creature's body to use. As a Kelpie made of water, with the right accommodations the g-forces don't matter to him, so he's able to use it just fine.

Prince Hekima, Prince Tamaa, and Prince Wema
The triplet Zebra Princes of Kamili and sons of the previous King of Kamili. Despite all three of them being in line for their father's throne (as well as their supporters vying for either of them to become King), Hekima, Tamaa, and Wema realized that none of them were actually qualified to rule, as each of them had specific traits that the others lacked. To resolve this, the triplet Princes approached Symvíosi, the Co-Existence Primeval, and requested that they be fused together to create a "complete King", despite knowing this would essentially kill them. Symvíosi agreed, and the resulting fusion would become King Kamili, the leader of the Kamilian Pantheon.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: All three of them willingly gave up their lives to fuse into King Kamili and give their subjects the benevolent King that they (and by extension, the entire Zebrican continent) needed.
  • Posthumous Character: All three triplets are long dead by the time an entry on King Kamili was published, having permanently fused together to create him out of desire to provide their subjects a "complete King".

Himaya Imperium

First mentioned in a drabble depicting their day of founding, the Himaya Imperium is a dark mirror of the Kamili Empire, sharing similar goals to create a Zebrican state strong enough to protect their lands people from those foreign imperialists who sought to conquer, oppress and exploit them. Unlike the benevolent Kamili however, the Himaya Imperium is much more ambitious, militaristic, expansionistic, revanchist and chauvinistic, seeking not only to unify the whole continent under their banner, but to rise in strength until it can have its revenge against other nations which had wronged them and become the dominant power of Equus. In opposing foreign imperialism and desiring to never again face slavery, persecution and extermination, they are at risk of becoming not so different from their enemies, serving as a stark reminder of how easily the good intentions could become tainted by vindictiveness, ambition and trauma.
    General
  • The Determinator: They seek to unify Zebrica, make the foreign imperialists pay for their transgressions against Zebrica, as well as become the dominant power of Equus, and they are willing to use more ruthless and unscrupulous means to achieve that end, such as military conquest and imperialistic ambitions of their own.
  • Divine Assistance: The Himaya Imperium, while founded and led by mortals, are receiving backing and assistance from Zebrican deities who are more proactively supporting and encouraging their worshippers to resist foreign invaders and oppressors with everything they got (in contrast with those like Queen Mzazi who are unable or even unwilling to do so, or at least as much as they like), such as Irin, the Lord of War and Iron.
  • The Dreaded: Feared increasingly for their hardline militancy and imperialistic ambitions, and actively cultivates this to both pressure other Zebrican nations into willingly joining or ally with them rather than resist and intimidate non-Zebrican powers into leaving them and the continent alone.
  • Elective Monarchy: Seemed to function partially as one at least with its top leadership, with Imperator Mfecane being noted as being elected by a yet-specified body from a list of candidates.
  • The Empire: Described outright as an ambitious, militaristic, expansionistic, revanchist and increasingly chauvinistic dominion, seeking not only unify Zebrica and peoples under one banner by force if needed be, but also seek revenge against the foreign powers for every wrong against Zebrica and grow strong enough to become the dominant power on Equus, believing this is the best way to restore the former greatness of the Zebrican civilizations and to ensure the continent and its races and nations will never again be subjected to domination, oppression and exploitation.
  • Expy: While the Himaya Imperium is largely its own thing, it draws inspiration from many sources in regards to its existence, nature and backstory.
    • Himaya Imperium's militaristic and expansionistic character as well as rapid advancement in industry and technology makes it resemble the Zebra Empire from Fallout Equestria, whose desperate need for resources - such as magical gems - for their economy led it to engage in a decades-long war with Equestria (who is also desperate for resources for their economy - in their case coal and other combustibles - to fuel their industrialization). In pursuit of victory over their enemies, the Zebra Empire would just as Equestria resort to increasingly ruthless means and develop many advanced weapons and technology.
    • Himaya Imperium's ambition and imperialism makes it similar to Imperial Japan - in the 19th century, Japan greatly feared and resented western imperialistic interference and bullying of their country, but realized they lacked the strength and means to resist them. In their determination to restore their pride and reach power rivalling the West, they would learn from and emulate them - including developing their own ruthless imperialistic ambitions and conduct of their own. Both empires' vindictiveness and successes in rapid industrialization, militarization and expansionism would see them developing extreme nationalistic ideologies which would drive them to conquer their respective continents - the Asia-Pacific for the Japanese and Zebrica for the Himayans - seeking to replace Western imperialism with their OWN imperialism, ultimately becoming no different from the foreign powers they had once feared and resented.
    • Himaya Imperium's growing chauvinism and vindictive revanchism is similar to those of modern China throughout their respective recent histories - both are bitter and paranoid after past, terrible atrocities and wrongs inflicted by foreign imperialists against their lands and peoples in the foreign powers' greed, cruelty and arrogance, and both sought to restore their respective lands/countries to match the influence and power it once wielded at the height of their grander civilizations of old. Both took pride in their cultural heritage and raised it up over others. Both also seek to undermine the foreigners whom they view as enemies, partly as payback for their lands/peoples' respective eras of humiliation and exploitation, and partly to one day surpass and replace them at the top of the world stage.
  • Foil / Shadow Archetype: The Himaya Imperium had been classified by Cultura as this for the Kamili Empire. Both of them are fighting to save Zebrica from foreign imperialists, but where the Kamili Empire is a diplomatic and benevolent Hegemonic Empire trying to peacefully unify the continent and oppose its enemies where possible, the Himaya Imperium is a expansionistic and militaristic empire willing to resort fo aggressive force to unify Zebrica and expel the foreign powers. In many ways, the Himayans serve as an example demonstrating how goals similar to those of King Kamili could be perverted into revanchist, militant and imperialistic causes if the wrong lessons and ideas are learnt or take root.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: In seeking to rise in strength to defy and overcome their imperialistic foreign oppressors, the Himaya Imperium is starting to act like the very imperialistic foreign powers they oppose.
  • It's Personal: Revanchism is a key staple of their national ideology, seeking not only to reverse the damage caused to the lands and people of Zebrica but also seek vengeance against the foreign powers that had wronged them with their racism and imperialism.
  • Knight Templar: Desire to never again let Zebrica suffer conquest, oppression and exploitation by foreign powers, even if it means becoming like the imperialists with their increasingly ambitious, militaristic, expansionistic, revanchist and chauvinistic ways.
  • Mirroring Factions:
    • To the Kamili Empire: Both sought to unify Zebrica and oppose foreign imperialism, but go off in different directions. Their differences and disagreements is becoming the key reason of the growing rivalry between the two empires.
    • More disturbingly, they are at risk of becoming no different from the foreign imperialists themselves, willing to unify the continent by force, holding chauvinistic beliefs against other nations, and all-in-all on the verge of becoming imperialists themselves with their ambitious, expansionistic and revanchist goals.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: the Himayans are determined to ensure the peoples of Zebrica will never again be subjected to domination, oppression, exploitation and annihilation. Unfortunately, this determination is at risk of turning them into becoming no different from their foreign imperialistic enemies themselves.
  • The Rival: To the Kamili Empire. Because of their differences in both how to unify/govern Zebrica and on how to deal with non-Zebricans, they are rapidly developing a rivalry against each other (and other factions and nations both Zebrican and non-Zebrican) which is stated would persist through the rest of the present century-spanning 'Time of Trials'.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: It has been speculated by Codexverse authors that despite having similar goals, the Clovenists and Himayans are not likely to get along well enough to form anything more than alliances of conveniences due to severe disagreements on multiple issues and other factors.
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction: In an attempt to create their own counter and counterpart to the Clovenists' Mana Bombs, the Himayans would ultimately develop the Codexverse's version of Balefire weapons from Fallout Equestria in the 'Mwangamizi Project'. They wanted to use Dragonfire as the basis of their weapon initially, but it proved too volatile and overpowered to be controllable (as well as Dragons constantly complaining about their 'birthright' being 'usurped'), so they switch to the less destructive but more stable and in some ways more deadly necro-pyromantic Balefire instead.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: At best, they are this, seeking to restore Zebrica and its lands and peoples to glory as a united nation strong enough to protect themselves from others who would seek to conquer, oppress, exploit and annihilate them. In the process though, they risk becoming no different from those they oppose and Became Their Own Antithesis.

Notable Kamilian Individuals

    Mfecane I, Imperator of Himaya
First introduced in Drabbles here and here, Imperator Mfecane I is one of the founders of the Himaya Imperium and presently its head by elective mandate. In many ways, he serve as a Foil for the King Kamili of the Kamili Empire.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He loved his sister and helped her try to change things for their homeland through peaceful means. Her brutal death by their colonial oppressors changed him into a vengeful revolutionary-turn-emperor who vowed to free Zebrica by force and power and one day avenge her suffering and death and those of every other Zebrican by bringing fire and blood to their oppressors' realms.
  • Elective Monarchy: Mfecane I did not inherit his title as Imperator, but is elected into the office by a body, implicitly from a list of candidates, showing if nothing else he was given a mandate by an elite/popular body to lead the Himaya Imperium.
  • The Emperor: Mfecane I holds the title of 'Imperator', which is the Latin word for 'ordering/commanding' from which the title of Emperor is derived.
  • Foil: An obvious one for Kamili, the Unified King, in both nature and character.
  • Freudian Excuse: According to his own words, his sister was once a charismatic leader like himself who sought to bring about change for their colonized homeland and free their kingdom through peace and understanding. Their colonial oppressors responded by imprisoning, brutalizing and ultimately murdering her and other likeminded Zebrican peoples, hoping to Make an Example of Them and terrorize their colonial subjects into submission. This filled him and many others inspired or struggling with her with grief, fury and hatred for their oppressors and caused him and many fellow Zebricans to choose freeing not just their homeland but all of Zebrica through force and power instead of understanding and peace, vowing to one day avenge her and all of Zebrica's suffering by bringing fire and blood to their colonizers and imperialists' homelands.
  • Glorious Leader: Imperator Mfecane I has vibes of this, with his New Era Speech being full of romantic/idealistic rhetoric, raging against foreign powers and traitors, promising unity, restoration, vengeance and supremacy for the Himaya Imperium and Zebrica as a whole (under their rule), and being applauded by his new subjects and soldiers for it.
  • Knight Templar: Also has vibes of this with his extreme rhetoric against foreign imperialists and anyone else who stands in the way of the Himaya Imperium. It's clear from the get go that he is not going to be nice.
  • Large Ham: Imperator Mfecane I's New Era Speech leaves little to the imagination with its intensity and volume.
  • Les Collaborateurs: Mfecane's absolutely loathes those Zebras and other Zebricans who threw their lot with their conquerors, oppressors and exploiters, venomously mentioning them in the same breath as the foreign imperialists whom they oppose.
  • Magnetic Hero: To the Himayans. It is clear that he is a charismatic leader, with his New Era Speech at his coronation and proclamation of the Himaya Imperium being received with near-universal approval by the civilian and military audience hundreds of thousands strong. He was also popular enough to be elected 'Imperator' of the Himaya Imperium.
  • Meaningful Name: Mfecane is a Zulu term for 'Upheaval' or 'Crushing', fitting for the Imperator of a militaristic, expansionistic and revanchist empire seeking to unify and restore the Zebricans as the dominant civilizations of Equus.
  • President for Life: Subverted in a sense: Mfecane I was elected, but he is for all intents and purposes an EMPEROR, not a president. Otherwise played straight in that he would be reigning for life regardless.
  • New Era Speech: Gave one at his coronation in the Himayan Imperium's capital of Nova Roama, where he promised things will change in Zebrica with the Himayan Imperium leading the way, swearing they would unify Zebrica (by force if necessary) and rise in power until they are not only strong enough to throw out all their conquerors, oppressors, exploiters and annihilators, but seek revenge on them for all the wrongs they wrought.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Beneath his charismatic demagogury and vengeful rhetoric, Mfecane I is a Zebra who loves and mourns for the loss and suffering of his sister and his people and homeland because of the foreign devils who colonised and oppressed them.

Zinabi Empire

    General
  • And Man Grew Proud: It was around the Zinabi Empire's hayday that the peoples of Zebrica told their own gods to buck off and stop interfering with the lives of mortals in Zebrica. Now, with Zinabi long fallen and the Zebrican continent being overrun by foreign imperialists, they regret it greatly.
  • Fiction 500: The Zinabi Empire was FABULOUSLY wealthy. They were so rich in fact that a king's ransom or even an entire kingdom's worth was pocket change by their standards. So far the Empire of Malregnar is the only civilization mentioned in various Drabbles and entries to be wealthier, and even then they had to cheat via applying Dark Magic transmutation spells on a geographical scale.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: They forced some kind of magically binding promise out of the Zebrican Pantheon that prevents them from interfering in the lives of mortals in Zebrica. Now that the continent is being torn apart by imperialistic powers with the gods unable to do anything about it, needless to say everyone has come to regret that promise.
  • Portal Network: The Zinabis built one, which is operated by Music Magic rituals. This allowed them to spread their empire far beyond the shores of Zebrica, with colonies and outposts as far away as Equestria and Angel Vale.
  • Precursors: They ruled Zebrica long ago as an advanced, ancient empire that spread far beyond its shores and was also ridiculously wealthy. However, something caused the end of their civilization and all that remains now is buried relics and the magically binding promise they forced the Zebrican Pantheon to make not to interfere with the continent.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: They forced some kind of magically binding promise from the Zebrican Pantheon to not interfere in the lives of Zebrica's mortal population as a whole. Deconstructed, as it's implied to have been partially out of hubris and it prevents the gods from intervening to protect the continent from the imperialistic powers ripping it apart in the present day.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Really, telling ones' own gods to stop interfering with their lives and making it a Magically-Binding Contract so neither side literally cannot void their deal is almost guaranteed to be a recipe for disaster in the long run.
