Main Characters

    C.C.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cc_resurrection.png
Voiced by: Yukana (Japanese), Kate Higgins (English)

The immortal woman who gave Lelouch his geass. Unable to accept Lelouch's death for the sake of world peace, she travels in a quest to resurrect him.

  • The Caretaker: Throughout the first act of the Re;surrection movie, C.C. makes herself responsible of watching over the Soulless Shell of Lelouch's body until she travels to C's World to recover his mind. She feeds him and comforts him when he suffers a panic attack.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: During the mission to rescue Nunnally, all of Lelouch's plans are predicted by the enemy because of Shamna's Mental Time Travel geass. Facing the apparent hopelessness of the situation, Lelouch for the first time has no idea of what to do and is on verge of giving up. Seeing him doubting like that, C.C. holds him at gunpoint and tells him she didn't go through all the trouble to resurrect him if he wasn't going to be the arrogant and overconfident man she wanted back so badly. This is what Lelouch needed to get his bearings back.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: C.C. resurrected Lelouch because she couldn't bear to live in a world without him, but she had no intention of keeping him to herself. Throughout the movie, C.C. gave other people chances to be with Lelouch, such as telling Kallen to spend time with him. At the end, C.C. was going to leave without saying goodbye to Lelouch so he could have the happy life with Nunnally he never got before his death. However, against her expectations, Lelouch decides to join C.C. in her journey and gives her a Wacky Marriage Proposal.
  • Necromancer: She can bring back the dead using the power of C's World like what she did to Lelouch, albeit not without some flaws on her part.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: Not being able to accept Lelouch's death, C.C. resurrects his body. Since Lelouch Came Back Wrong, she then goes to C's World in order to retrieve his soul too. She succeeds.
  • Supporting Protagonist: She's the protagonist of the first half of the movie, but her goal is bringing Lelouch back to life in body and mind. Once Lelouch is back, he drives the plot for the rest of the movie in order to rescue Nunnally who has been captured by Shamna.
  • Tearful Smile: She makes a beautiful one at the end of the movie after Lelouch's Wacky Marriage Proposal.

    Lelouch vi Britannia / L.L.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ll_resurrection.png
Voiced by: Jun Fukuyama (Japanese), Johnny Yong Bosch (English)

In the original series, Lelouch became a globally hated tyrant as part of a plan to be killed by Suzaku and create world peace. C.C. recovered his body with Shirley's help and healed his mortal wound with the power of C's World, but his mind remains missing until C.C. can enter C's World again.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: In the original series, especially in season 1, a good chunk of the plot is spent on the Hidden Heart of Gold Lelouch has and his development at acknowledging more and more the grey in what he does, including him moving from mostly seeking Revenge to genuinely working to build a better world. As a lot of those scenes and situations (such as the fall out of Narita, the entire Mao arc, and Shirley's death being responsible for his massacre of the Geass Order) were Adapted Out of the movies, Lelouch comes across as much more cruel and cold of heart as he's missing a lot of the Character Development that was given focus in the anime.
  • The Ageless: While Charles' code was attempted to be transferred to Lelouch after thwarting the Ragnarok Connection, Lelouch's actions there instead caused the process to fail, thus leading to the Zero Requiem. C.C. managed to recreate his body after his death, but his mind and soul were left trapped within C's World. After reclaiming them, Lelouch has become a "Failed One". While the exact nature of this is unknown, what is known is that he no longer ages, but it does not make him immortal. Unlike a Code Bearer, he also retains the use of his Geass, and can now activate and deactivate it in both eyes at will. The only other known "Failed One", Shamna, did not elaborate on other abilities they may have.
  • Amnesiac Hero: For the first act of Re;surrection, Lelouch is a mere body with no memories nor conscience due to a flaw in C.C.'s resurrection attempt.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Zero, as always. After his initial plan is thwarted by Shamna's Geass, he comes up with a list of two dozen possible ways a Geass could be used to come up with a counter for his plans. Lelouch then has C.C. launch a variety of strategies he expects to fail in order to figure out exactly what kind of Geass he's actually up against and how to thwart it.
  • Back from the Dead: After Lelouch had Suzaku kill him, C.C. brought him back to life, except she only healed his body and his soul is still missing. He gets better later though.
  • Batman Gambit: Lelouch's final move against Shamna is, by his own admission, a coin toss because he has a suspicion about how her Geass works but isn't positive, so he risks his life by claiming to have an identical Geass, betting that she'll give up the activation requirements in an attempt to stop him from using it.
  • Batman Grabs a Gun: Lelouch keeps his word of "The only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed" and makes it clear that a person who Faced Death with Dignity and then was resurrected by someone else would rather stay out of the fight. But since Nunnally is part of Zilkhstan's Evil Plan, he's in for one last fight in the battlefield.
  • But Now I Must Go: At the end of Re;surrection, after the Zilkhstan terrorists are dealt with, Lelouch parts ways with Suzaku and Nunally before joining C.C. in travelling around the world in search of Geass fragments.
  • Came Back Wrong: When he came Back from the Dead in Re;surrection, he's suffering from amnesia, had glass-like eyes, and acts like a combination of a zombie and a Manchild. Averted later after getting his memories back.
  • Deuteragonist: He takes over the focus after his full revival by C.C. at one of the Aramu gates at the prison in Ziikhstan and it is obvious as indicated in the poster with C.C. in the middle since she was the main focus of the first half.
  • Meaningful Rename: At the end of the movie, Lelouch is offered to live alongside Nunnally and Suzaku again, but he says no because he created a peaceful world for them to move on without him. He catches up to C.C. before she leaves without saying goodbye and tells her he's going to travel the world with her from now on. C.C. protests, mainly because he can't let anyone know who he really is, so Lelouch renames himself "L.L." taking the initials of Lelouch Lamperouge (which, according to the movie pamphlet written by the creators, can be understood as Lelouch's way of a Wacky Marriage Proposal to C.C., presumably by giving himself a name similar to hers).
  • No Place for Me There: At the end of Re;surecction, Nunnally asks Lelouch to come live with her like they did before, but he turns down the offer and chooses to go Walking the Earth with C.C. as he told Nunnally that she has grown up and doesn't need him anymore. He tells C.C. though that he does plan on eventually checking in on everyone from time to time though, he just can't do that now since the world thinks he's dead.
  • Not Me This Time: Suzaku has mixed feelings for him by the time they met again after Lelouch is fully resurrected in mind and body (even going so far as to punch him in the face) and would've beat him up to death again if it weren't for C.C.'s interference. Of course, Lelouch doesn't have any intention of making excuses this time, since C.C. admitted that her selfishness is to blame for his botched resurrection (and Lelouch didn't even ask for that after the Zero Requiem in the first place).
  • Resurrection Sickness: After being resurrected, Lelouch's state of mind is an Empty Shell who can't talk and gets easily scared. C.C. reveals that this is the result of his soul, memories, and personality remaining trapped in the collective unconsciousness after she resurrected him. So, she has to use the portal to C's world to fully restore him.
  • Reunion Vow: Downplayed. When C.C. asks him why he insists on travelling with her rather than staying with Nunnally or going to see Shirley or Kaguya, Lelouch says he doesn't want to cause a scene for them and feels this isn't the right time, but that he will eventually check in on everyone.
  • Soulless Shell: C.C.'s botched resurrection of Lelouch at the start of Re;surrection resulted with him coming back as a half-dead Manchild who frequently freaks out at the slightest of things (including the juices coming out from the meat buns cooked by C.C.). After getting his soul back, this is no longer the case.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He takes his resurrection in surprising stride (though he calls C.C. selfish on a couple occasions), and he treats all of his allies with palpable kindness and respect, even those who aren't happy to see him back (e.g. Suzaku and Cornelia).
  • Took the Wife's Name: Due to the Zero Requiem, the tyrannical emperor Lelouch vi Britannia is long seen as dead to the world, so Lelouch can't go by his old name without risking issues. Therefore, he takes on the name L.L. (pronounced as L Two) as part of a Wacky Marriage Proposal to C.C. (pronounced as C Two) before joining her in Walking the Earth.
  • Vocal Evolution: While Jun Fukuyama still uses his iconic Lelouch voice, Johnny Yong Bosch's portrayal is a bit more subdued and raspy in comparison to how Lelouch sounded in the original series. Said portrayal makes Lelouch sound much softer and gentler, similar to the voice used when attending Ashford Academy, making it a subtle way of showing Lelouch Took a Level in Kindness.
  • Wacky Marriage Proposal: In the last scene of the movie, he suggests C.C. he should change his name to L.L. so he can join her in her journey. C.C.'s beautiful Tearful Smile shows that she understood that was Lelouch's way of proposing to her.

Allies

    Suzaku Kururugi / Zero
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suzaku_resurrection.jpg
Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Yuri Lowenthal (English)

Lelouch's best friend and former enemy who took on the identity of Zero to kill Emperor Lelouch and become Nunnally's bodyguard.

  • Badass in Distress: He gets captured by the Zilkhstan terrorists (via a well-planned trap) after his failed attempt to rescue Nunally. He was later bailed out by Lelouch and his crewmates though.
  • Demoted to Extra: Contrary to his original role he doesn't get to do much in Re;surrection as the central focus is squarely on Lelouch and C.C.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: He starts out piloting a Mahoraba, then switches to the "Lancelot siN" later.
  • Palette Swap: The Lancelot Albion Zero, which only appears in the trailer and prequel manga, is basically the Lancelot Albion but painted in Zero's personal color scheme of black, with the energy wings changed to purple.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When he sees Lelouch alive again, Suzaku briefly goes crazy and beats the crap out of Lelouch, thinking Lelouch lied to him and had planned to not really die. Thankfully, C.C. stops him and explains she was the one who brought Lelouch back without his permission.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Suzaku was captured by the Zilkhstan terrorists, both because of the trap they made and because he was piloting a ceremony-exclusive Mahoraba at the time.

    Kallen Kozuki / Kallen Stadtfeld
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kallen_resurrection.png
Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu (Japanese), Karen Strassman (English)

One of Zero's former Black Knights.

  • Fighting Your Friend: She's Geassed into attacking Sayoko and Lloyd by the assassin leader of Zilkhstan, but quickly wears off afterwards when the leader in question escaped.
  • Sensual Spandex: As is usual for her, she wears a skintight pilot suit that highlights her voluptuous figure.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Her "Guren Tokushiki" in Re;surrection is more powerful than her previous Guren units.

    Princess Nunnally vi Britannia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nunnally_resurrection.png
Voiced by: Kaori Nazuka (Japanese), Rebecca Forstadt (English)

Lelouch's little sister.

  • Damsel in Distress: She got captured by the Zilkhstani terrorists as part of their attempt to fix their home country's current state (not helped by Lelouch's Thanatos Gambit causing a significant blow to Zilkhstan's warrior lifestyle). Lelouch would later rescue her near the end of the film.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": She doesn't mind that Milly still calls her just Nunnally instead of "Nunnally-sama".
  • It's All My Fault: She admits to feeling just as responsible for everything in Zero Requiem, and believes Lelouch shouldn't have to carry that burden himself.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: Shamna is trying to use Nunnally so she can enter C's World and gain the power to freely travel to the past.
  • Vapor Wear: When in captivity, Nunnally is put in a dress with gaps on the sides showing she isn't wearing a bra nor panties.

Zilkhistan

A kingdom known for its warriors, whose economy took a hit following the world peace that ensued in the aftermath of Zero Reqiuem.
    Shamna

Shamna

Voiced by: Keiko Toda (Japanese), Elizabeth Maxwell (English)

The High Priestess of Zilkhistan, and the Big Bad of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection.

  • Barred from the Afterlife: Lelouch could only defeat her by trapping her in a time loop where she's repeatedly killed and her Geass sends her back to a time where she's unconscious. As a result, her soul is trapped between life and death for all eternity. C.C. offers her a chance to escape her fate and pass on. Due to her own heart losing its way, leading her brother and her people down countless failed paths and leading them astray, Shamna decides to remain so as to meet them all as they pass on as atonement for failing them.
  • Big Bad: Her brother may be the king of Zilkhistan, but she is The Woman Behind the Man.
  • Death-Activated Superpower: Her Geass of Mental Time Travel is only activated when she dies.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She truly loves her little brother a lot.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Lelouch - whilst Lelouch desires to make the world a gentler place for his sister Nunnally, Shamna would allow the world to turn into a warzone so as to ensure Zilkhistan remains stable and protect her brother.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: When Lelouch realizes what Shamna's Geass is, he figures out how far she travels back in time, then uses his own Geass to put her to sleep permanently, preventing her from killing herself. He then orders her personal guard to blow up the room after 10 hours. Because of this, even if her Geass activates regardless of the way she dies, the only place she will return to is a point at which she's already asleep and unable to do anything further.
  • Irony: Her original Geass ability to see the future allowed her to ensure prosperity for her nation and brother by leading them towards a better future. Once Lelouch creates world peace, making their country lose the only thing it has to sustain itself, she loses her ability to gaze into the future and becomes obsessed with the past.
  • Knight Templar: Everything she does is to protect her brother and Zilkhistan, and she's willing to try anything using Geass, and even killing herself over and over, to ensure both are protected.
  • Magical Eye: Like Lelouch, she possesses a Geass of her own, which lets her travel back six hours prior whenever she dies. Uniquely, unlike most other Geass users seen in the franchise, her Geass sigil is colored in gold when it should typically be red, though there are those in the series who have the rare blue variant: Jeremiah and Leila.
  • Mental Time Travel: Her Geass works this way - on death, her consciousness returns to six hours prior to what killed her, with all knowledge intact. She later reveals her power was originally the ability to see the future before mutating into it's current form.
  • Retroactive Precognition: Her so-called prophetic powers are the result of her geass sending her mind back in time six hours prior to her death. This way, she gathers information to predict enemy attacks and strategies.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Her Geass gives her the ability of Mental Time Travel with only her retaining the memories of the previous loops.
  • Save Scumming: Whenever she's killed, her Geass sends her six hours back in time with only herself remembering what happened. This way, she can kill herself as many times needed to counter all her enemy's attacks.
  • Seers: Her Geass originally allowed her to see the future, not unlike Bismarck, though hers is supposedly far stronger. After Lelouch's actions in C's World, however, her Geass changed and instead allowed her to travel back in time six hours after death.
  • Shadow Archetype: Is also this to Lelouch - both are elder siblings who possess geass and a disabled younger sibling, who they would do anything for. Lelouch, however, wants to bring about a gentler world for Nunnally, whilst Shamna seeks to protect hers by ensuring a violent one for Shalio. Shamna can essentially be seen as a Lelouch who was incapable of seeing a better tomorrow.
  • Waif Prophet: Shamna claims to have the power to see into the future. It's actually a form of Mental Time Travel Geass allowing her to go back in time six hours by committing suicide.

    Shalio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shalio.png
Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (Japanese), Jared S. Gilmore (English)

The young king of Zilkhistan.

  • Blood Knight: He's completely obsessed with becoming the most powerful warrior.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Trying to become a warrior strong enough to fight for his people wrecked his body futher and drove him insane.
  • Covered in Scars: During his bath scene, we see that his body is heavily scarred. All of the scars start bleeding during his breakdown.
  • Doppelgänger Spin: His personal Knightmare Frame, the "Nagid Shu Mane," has a function called the Megistos Omega, which creates illusions of the machine itself to confuse the opponent.
  • The Dragon: While he is nominally the ruler of Zilkhistan, he leaves all matters of administration to his sister and focuses on piloting. He's Zilkhistan's most skilled pilot and is a match for Suzaku.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He genuinely loves his sister Shanma.
  • Evil Counterpart: Just as Shanma can be seen as this to Lelouch, Shalio is one to Nunnally. Nunnally is unable to walk and has no combat abilities, but she makes up for that with her skills in diplomacy as Britannia's Empress. Shalio, while also suffering from his own disabilities, is a frighteningly skilled pilot and while he is king of Zilkhistan, he prefers to leave political and administration affairs to his sister.
  • Handicapped Badass: Deconstructed. While Shalio is a skilled pilot despite being a partially blind wheelchair user, the effort it took to become so powerful despite his disability has wrecked havoc on both his body and mind.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He loses what little sanity he has left after he loses contact with Shanma during his final battle with Suzaku.

  • Smug Snake: He assumes that his nobility makes him a master tactician.
  • Upper-Class Twit: He is very proud of his nobility, even though his family were merchant class before his father became a war hero.

    Swaile Qujappat
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/swaile_qujappat.png
Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda (Japanese), Gabe Kunda (English)

An assassin who serves Zilkhistan. He has a Geass that renders his targets unable to tell friend from foe.

  • Confusion Fu: His Geass causes his targets to see their allies as copies of him and to see him as their allies. Even if an opponent realizes that they are under an illusion, they still have to contend with Qujappat's skills in conventional combat.
  • Graceful Loser: As Nina fatally electrocutes him, he compliments her on being able to outwit him.
  • Kick the Dog: He shoots C.C. in the head without any reason to assume that she was anything more than a civilian in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    Belq Batoum Bitool

  • Boxed Crook: He used to be a thief before he was appointed warden.
  • Karmic Death: He spends most of his screentime threatening Kallen. She gets to vaporize him with the Gurren at the end of the film.
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: He strongly implies that he intends to rape Kallen once he captures her.
  • Wardens Are Evil: He's a corrupt man who delights in torturing his prisoners, especially women.
