Abunai Sisters: Koko & Mika is a series of CGI anime shorts by Production I.G, starring the Kano sisters, Kyoko (whose name is spelled "Koko" here) and Mika, a Japanese celebrity duo. Although it is a Japanese production, it is only voiced in English.

The two sisters live the lives of celebrities, enjoying wealth and flaunting their beauty, which they owe to the power of the Booby Stone. However, their peaceful life is often interrupted by the villainous Madam Hokuroda, who seeks to claim the Booby Stone for herself in order to restore her youth and beauty, and her lackey, Paparazzi Matsumoto, who is seemingly more interested in ogling the Kano sisters than helping his boss achieve her goal.

Each episode consists of Hokuroda and Matsumoto trying to steal the Booby Stone, which inevitably either backfires or gets foiled by the sisters thanks to their strange boob-based powers, which include the "Emergency Abunai Alarm" and Breast Expansion. The sisters themselves were designed by manga artist Susumu Matsushita.

Due to the series' poor reception, only the first two episodes were ever aired, but the remainder of the series was later released on DVD.

This series contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: The titular sisters, who successfully foil Hokuroda and Matsumoto with a variety of powers and moves in each episode.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Kyoko's name is spelled as "Koko" here, as Kyoko's name is harder to pronounce in the United States.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Matsumoto (the token male in the main cast) is a pervert who frequently ogles the sisters' breasts.
  • Asian Speekee Engrish: Used by Matsumoto as part of his disguise in Case 4.
  • Ass Kicks You: In "Abunai Changing Room", Mika is trapped in a room with a Time Bomb. She uses her "secret weapon, the Butt Punch" to break down the door. It only manages to punch a hole in the door in which she gets stuck.
  • A-Team Firing: Although many rounds are fired throughout the show, the only things that ever actually get hit by bullets are the guns being held. The first episode has Mika crawling past a hail of machine gun fire without getting hit a single time.
  • Beach Episode: The sisters live in a beachside mansion, and several episodes use this setting:
    • The first episode has them trying to go swimming, with Mika looking forward to wearing a skimpy swimsuit while Koko is planning on Skinny Dipping. Unfortunately, they're stopped by a robotic shark with a gun in its mouth.
    • The sixth episode starts off identically to the first one, down to them having a similar conversation about their choice of swimwear (or lack thereof). However, Matsumoto has built a booby-trapped changing room in which to trap Mika.
    • The eighth episode once again has the sisters going to the beach for a swim. However, a shark alert sign causes them to change plans and play volleyball instead, allowing Matsumoto to swap their ball with a bomb.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: The heroines are twin sisters who have an hourglass figure and a very well-endowed chest. The villains are the Gonkish Hokuroda, whose design seems to be based on Yubaba from Spirited Away, and Matsumoto, who looks like a stereotypical creepy nerd.
  • Big Bad: Hokuroda is responsible for all of the problems the sisters face, as she repeatedly tries to steal their Booby Stone.
  • Boob-Based Gag: Most of the comedy revolves around Koko and Mika's ludicrously huge breasts, which jiggle with every move they make. The perverted Matsumoto often gets distracted by their bust, which usually leads to his comedic downfall.
  • Bottle Episode: With the exceptions of Case 2 (which is entirely set in a limo) and the beginning of Case 6 (which is set in Hokuroda's lair), the series takes place entirely within the beach.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: At the end of the final episode, the camera zooms in on the Booby Stone in Mika's hand... then moves a bit to focus on her cleavage. Mika yells at the cameraman, then covers the camera with her hand, causing the screen to cut to static.
  • Breast Expansion: One of the sisters' powers is to make their chest grow in size. In one episode, they use this to help cushion them in a car crash (making it a literal case of Funbag Airbag), in another, they weaponize their enlarged bust to beat up Matsumoto, and in yet another case, they use this to break the ropes used to tie them up.
  • Captain Ersatz: Hokuroda's design is very similar to Yubaba.
  • Celebrity Toons: The series is designed to promote Japanese celebrities Kyoko and Mika Kano.
  • Cleavage Window: Mika's dress incorporates a hole revealing her cleavage.
  • Coconut Meets Cranium: In Case 5, Mika throws a plate into a palm tree, causing two coconuts to fall onto the villains' heads.
  • Combat Stilettos: Both sisters wear high-heeled boots, which doesn't make them any less efficient at action.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Matsumoto will often get distracted by the sisters' breasts, which usually ruins his plan. For example, in Episode 2, he and Hokuroda have the sisters held hostage in their car, but because Matsumoto keeps looking at their cleavage in the rear-view mirror, he ends up crashing into a truck.
  • The Dividual: Koko and Mika are rarely seen apart, and both have very similar personalities (aside from Koko being more egotistical).
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: In the first episode, Mika defeats a robot shark by shaking a champagne bottle until the pressure shoots the cork like a bullet. She does so with a rather suggestive motion, especially combined with the sound of her panting.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The first episode refers to the Emergency Abunai Alarm as the "Abunai Emergency Alarm".
  • Evil Is Hammy: Hokuroda, the main villain, yells out much of her lines.
  • Evil Old Folks: Hokuroda is an old lady, and she's the Big Bad.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus:
    • "Abunai Dinner" has a shot of Koko and Mika looking at an ad for Matsumoto's "Chinese takeout restaurant", with an ad for a Japanese restaurant next to it, with a mascot named Hibi-chan.
    • "Abunai Mansion" has Hokuroda reading a newspaper called "The K&M Times", and if you look closely, you can see most of the text mainly consists of promotional news articles for Abunai Sisters itself.
  • Girly Bruiser: Koko and Mika are very feminine and often brag about being famous and their looks, but (most of the time) are effective at combat.
  • Gonk: Hokuroda, whose looks have deteriorated into a Yubaba-like appearance. She plans to steal the Booby Stone to restore her beauty.
  • Grenade Hot Potato: In "Abunai Beach Volleyball", the villains trick the sisters into playing volleyball with a ball that's been rigged to explode, but they catch on and end up passing it to the villains, which turns into a high-stakes volleyball game.
  • Haute Cuisine Is Weird: In "Abunai Dinner", the fancy (poisoned) Chinese meal Matsumoto tries to trick the sisters into eating consists of a single meatball. Matsumoto claims that it's a 4,000-year-old recipe favored by the Empress Dowager herself.
  • Helium Speech: The DVD release pitches up the entire soundtrack (bar the intro), giving the characters chipmunk-like voices.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Often, Hokuroda and Matsumoto's own evil scheme backfires and takes them out.
    • In "Abunai Changing Room", they try to trap Mika by building a changing room on the beach, then locking her inside with a time bomb when she goes to change. When Matsumoto looks inside the room after noticing Mika escaped, the bomb explodes and takes him out, and Hokuroda gets knocked out by a piece of the door which Mika sends flying at her.
    • In "Abunai Beach Volleyball", they trick the sisters by hiding a bomb inside of a ball. When the sisters find out, it turns into a game of Grenade Hot Potato, and the ball ends up on the villains' side of the court when it blows up.
    • In "Abunai Dinner", Matsumoto tries to feed the sisters poisoned meatballs. When their Abunai Emergency Alarm informs them of this, he and Hokuroda end up in a ping-pong game with the sisters in an attempt at getting the meatballs down their throats. Of course, they end up being the ones who get fed the meatballs.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Titles: Every episode is referred to as a "case" and the name always starts with "Abunai".
  • Introductory Opening Credits: The intro consists of both sisters doing various moves (Koko aiming a pistol and Mika kicking), with their names appearing next to them.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: It is inferred that Hokuroda used to be very beautiful and attractive years ago, hence why she's after the Booby Stone.
  • Latex Perfection: Downplayed in "Abunai Bath Time": Matsumoto tries to impersonate a bath attendant hired by Koko, using a latex mask to do so. While the result completely alters his facial structure (and fools Koko until the mask is broken), the face never blinks and doesn't move its mouth when he speaks, turning it into a Paper-Thin Disguise.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Although the sisters often talk about fashion, they're always seen in the same outfit, presumably because the show's budget didn't allow for the creation of models of them wearing different outfits. This means that Failure Is the Only Option whenever they want to go for a swim, as there is no model of them in swimwear. Despite this, this is averted for the villains, who often don different outfits to disguise themselves.
  • Male Gaze: The camera often focuses on the sisters' assets. This is occasionally justified when said view comes from the perspective of the perverted Matsumoto's camera.
  • Mineral MacGuffin: The Booby Stone, a gem which grants its bearers eternal youth and beauty, is at the center of all of the conflict, as Hokuroda schemes to steal it for herself. It rarely ever actually does anything: one episode has the sisters pray to it to enhance their beauty, but nothing visibly changes about them.
  • Minidress of Power: Koko and Mika both wear very short dresses.
  • Minimalist Cast: The only characters we see are Koko, Mika, Matsumoto, and Hokuroda.
  • Not My Driver: In Case 2, the sisters ask their limo driver to take them to a lingerie shop. Turns out it's Matsumoto in a disguise - and Hokuroda's on the seat next to him.
  • Not Quite Starring: Despite the series starring a real-life celebrity duo, they don't actually voice their animated characters, as the series is only in English; Rachel Walzer voices Koko, and Vicki Glass voices Mika.
  • Obscured Special Effects: Of the mundane variety, in "Abunai Bath Time". When Koko gets naked to take a shower, she's only ever seen in silhouette through the shower curtain in order to mask the fact that there isn't a naked version of her 3D model and she's still fully clothed. This doesn't really work, as the silhouette still clearly has clothing on: you can see the belt buckle and boots in the outline.
  • The One Guy: Matsumoto is the only male in the cast.
  • Otaku: Matsumoto is very obsessed with the Abunai Sisters' bodies, and he appears to be an otaku caricature.
  • Paparazzi: Matsumoto is also very obsessed with chasing the sisters. Hell, Koko refers to him as "Paparazzi" in "Abunai Bath Time".
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The villains have occasionally used disguises in an attempt at getting the drop on the sisters.
    • In "Abunai Pest Control", Matsumoto and Hokuroda wearing a pest control uniform is enough to fool the sisters.
    • "Abunai Bath Time" has a strange case, in that Matsumoto achieves Latex Perfection, but the result is a face that never blinks and doesn't move its lips when speaking. Koko still never notices anything's up until the mask gets destroyed.
    • In "Abunai Dinner", Matsumoto dons a hat and a fake beard, and speaks in an over-the-top Asian Speekee Engrish accent to impersonate a Chinese chef. This fools the sisters until the Emergency Abunai Alarm goes off and alerts them that the food is poisoned.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Koko and Mika are supposedly secret agents, but everything they do has more to do with their lives as celebrities instead.
  • Skewed Priorities: In Case 3, the villains are looking for the Booby Stone in the sisters' house, but Koko catches them in the act and holds them at gunpoint. Hokuroda then grabs a nearby bottle of "super-expensive champagne" and threatens to drink it unless Koko drops her weapon. She immediately complies.
  • Skinny Dipping: Koko wants to go swimming while naked in Cases 1 and 6, but Mika wants to wear Barely-There Swimwear.
  • Spider-Sense: When the girls are in danger, their "Emergency Abunai Alarm" goes off, causing their breasts to jiggle violently while emitting a shrill beeping noise. Sometimes, this only happens when it's too late for them to avoid the danger, but it may also be triggered just in time for them to avoid the problem.
  • Spy Cam: One case has Matsumoto controlling a tiny robotic fly that has a camera inside of it, though being Matsumoto, he uses it to gaze at their breasts. Too bad the sisters swat it out...
  • Stock Footage: The beginning of Case 6 reuses its animation from Case 1, but with different dialogue. Also, Case 8 reuses the first two shots from Case 1.
  • Stripperiffic: Koko and Mika's outfits are rather skimpy, with exposed cleavage and very short skirts.
  • Supermodel Strut: The opening consists of Koko and Mika strutting along a catwalk.
  • To Be Continued: With the exception of Case 10, each episode ends with a "to be continued..." card.
  • True Blue Femininity: Both sisters wear blue dresses, with Koko wearing a dark, slightly purplish shade, and Mika in light blue.
  • Villainous Cheekbones: Hokuroda's cheeks are very deep, and she's a very unpleasant woman.
