Since we are on the subject, how Tamer and Chaster is this game compared to other Vanillaware games? I know this game will never surpass Dragon's Crown in terms of fetishes, but just curious how we can put this into a paragraph? Or would it be a Downplayed example, since it's still a Vanillaware game.

Tamer and Chaster is relative, so as long as it's tamer and chaster than Vanillaware's other games, it qualifies, even if it still has fetishy elements compared to most other games (swaying busoms, scantily clad elves, beast women, etc.) So I'd say it's just a straight example.

I second that, it's definitely tamer than most Vanillaware games. Maybe GrimGrimoire is tamer, but I haven't played it to be sure.

Should attack names (Thunder Shaker, Trinity Rain, etc.) really be italicized? I don't think I've seen any other game here do that.

I think I saw some use of this, but mostly things like anime and such come to mind.

I do believe this helps with reading comprehension, so I see no harm in continuing to do so.

Since there's the fact that Alain dismisses any romantic rapport as a dream if he already chosen his Maiden, who are the characters who gets this flag? I tested Melisandre, and I got that event flag after giving a ring to someone. I gave it to Scarlett.

I want to add a note regarding who gets the flag.

I can confirm the Elf twins, Chloe, Yahna, Liza, Yunifie and Dinah. Probably more, but I can't recall at the moment.

Definitely not Virginia, that I can atest.

I picked Scarlett on my first run, so can’t confirm, but I bet she has that flag too.

I think the Cutscene Incompetence blows things out of proportions, since I can recall only two enemy commanders escaping after defeat (Beaumont and Gailey). Though if were talking about Baltro, then yes, he escapes time and time again with his hoodie trick.

But does that warrant an entry? What do you think?

I think it is time to put examples into folders for easier browsing. Any propositions on how to separate them by letters?

I've been pondering to add a Fantasy Counterpart Culture trope.

It's clear to me that Cornia = France, Albion = Britain.

I'm a bit torn on the other three, though. Drakenhold is likely Germany, Bastorias is Scandinavia (though the names for the mercs don't add up to that as far as my limited knowledge on the topic tells me) and Elheim seems to directly use (or at least borrow) from the Elvish language invented by Tolkien.

What do you think?

Other than borrowing names they don't really have anything in common with the cultures in questions (ie the dishes). Also while Cornia has a lot of french names, plenty aren't french: Ilenia, Virginia, Fran, Josef (explicitly not the French spelling), Clive, etc...

Gratuitous French is already on the page and seems a better fit.

Also wouldn't Albion be The Papal States? It's literally a theocracy for a worldwide religion led by a Pontifex.

Drakenhold meanwhile has Gloucester (literally an English town lol), Jeremy, Magellan, etc ...

Regarding spoilers, I feel like anything the demo showed is fair game to avoid being marked as spoilers, but after that is where spoiler tags should be included.

Yeah, the ‘’initial’’ reveal about Mind Control probably should not be marked, given that it happens at the end of the first level, and more importantly, it would lead to having to mark too much, to little effect.

Yeah. It made sense at first when the demo was the only content to look at, but with the game now out and the demo being closer to a free tease of the game, I'd say anything up to when Scarlett (story wise) is where spoilers should be more enforced.

I agree with the bit on the mind control since that's literally the end of the first chapter. I disagree on everything in the demo being spoiler free. The demo can take 6 hours to complete. Heck, you can reach the end of the playtime in the demo and never get _to_ Scarlett's rescue. That the demo is free doesnt make spoilers any less spoilery than it would anywhere else.

I mostly mean the primary story mission when I discuss spoilers. Like the mind control and Scarlett being taken happen very quickly, and you can technically focus on trying to get her while doing as little of the other quests as possible.

* Alternate Company Equivalent: The game borrows a lot of mechanical ideas from the Fire Emblem series, being akin to using the art style of Vanillaware to make a variation of the gameplay systems present within Fire Emblem. The main character being an in hiding noble with a blue color scheme, in a class called Lord, helps reinforce this idea as well. In particular, the story takes a number of ques from Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Feels like Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen is a closer match? 5 countries taken over and forming a new evil Empire. Main character is also a lord. Leads a faction called the Liberation Army. The gameplay is also much more like Ogrebattle than Fire Emblem (Real time overworld map, squad of units who act automatically based on player-assigned tactics). Hero units are unique variations of generic units you use to fill out your squads.

The only gameplay bit that matches Fire Emblem is the way relationship values work and how you can buff them with a meal.

I'm not familiar with Ogre Battle so I can't comment on that, but if it does better match that, than no issues adjusting it.

I concur, for all that I feel that, in grand Vanillaware fashion, it's better thought of as a melange of various influences than a specific attempt at aping a single one.
