You can make an argument that the original DK, Grumpy is The Smart Guy and the other Kongs and weasel would be mixed in there as well.

Apparently not an example. This is the addition of "adult" content. Typically "sex, profanity, heavy violence, and controversial content." This seems to be just a darker tone.
- Darker and Edgier: Hideout Helm. This stage is completely different from anything else in the game. It isn't about taking bananas the Kremlings stole back, it's about stopping K. Rool from reducing DK island to nothing. No silly magic portal takes you here either.
You have a time limit, which is also different. It's not the bold, silly "tick-tock" time limit in the upper right corner. Instead, you have a silent, small-font, white time limit in the bottom of the screen. K. Rool's haunting laugh every 10 minutes is also unnerving. You know what happens when the time limit goes to zero? The game over cutscene.
The music. The epic, awesome, intense music. What is really epic about it is, 1: It's different from the silly and childish music you've been hearing most of the game. 2: It doesn't stop playing in the tag barrels and when you are using a barrel powerup. This game's not screwing around anymore.
