- Phineas and Ferb may seem typical and commonplace nowadays, but back in 2008, when the show had officially debuted (Having its sneak-peek initial episode in 2007), the show was really something. Its clever and frequent use of break-the-fourth-wall humor and pop culture references were attractive to audiences, especially considering that due to a low economy, cartoons like this were becoming extinct in favour of more live-action programming. Today, we have Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Gravity Falls, which get crap past the radar frequently and have more continuity in their storylines, as well as character development, so if a viewer was introduced to Phineas and Ferb today, it wouldn't seem so impressive as it did back in its heyday.
Uhmmm... What? First of all, other shows Getting Crap Past the Radar and averting Negative Continuity doesn't make Breaking the Fourth Wall and Shout-Outs less unusual, that's a Non Sequitur. Secondly, Phineas And Ferb didn't originate or popularize any of the things listed, so I fail to see how this relates to the trope at all.
- The Fairly Odd Parents was considered groundbreaking, funny and a "revival of the 1930s cartoons" at the time it debuted and in the early to mid 2000s. Today, the show is one of the most hated cartoons on TV for being too Denserand Wackier.
- Phineasand Ferb in the later 2000s was a show that was very popular right off the bat. Around this time, many people gave up on cartoons as a whole as they felt that they lacked everything that cartoons from the previous decade had, but seeing a show like Phineasand Ferb with it's clever wordplay, likable characters, lampshading and humor that appealed to all ages was seen as a miracle and the show's popularity rivaled that of Sponge Bob's. However, when Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic and Wander Over Yonder came around, Phineasand Ferb doesn't seem to have the same appeal as it used to and declined in ratings in recent years, as it doesn't seem as special or as groundbreaking as it was when it first came out.

Personally, they're closer to Jump the Shark and seem less this trope. The shows have declined in quality, they haven't looked worse in comparison.

With every cartoon today having sound by default, just imagine how much an amazing experience it was to see drawings making their own sounds, especially since there were still many silent features released in 1928 and sound was growing fast.
- The early Silly Symphonies were huge sensations when they made their debut in 1929 because for the first time, it was the music that controlled all the movements and actions of the characters and objects, a reversal of what happened in the Mickey Mouse series.
- Flowers And Trees: The first film of any kind made in full 3-strip Technicolor. Since many cartoons were black-and-white by default and all color shorts made beforehand were novelties whose colors were limited, so seeing all the colors of the rainbow in one picture was mind-blowing for many, which helped it garner the Academy Award, which some said was made for this short.
- The Old Mill: An experiment to test the "multiplane camera" before the release of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, it was breathtaking for audiences to see cartoons having a sense of depth and realism.
- Donald Duck. He was created to act as a foil against Mickey's "nice guy" traits. For audiences at the time, seeing a character whose entire schtick is his Hair-Trigger Temper going off at the slightest drawback broguht the house down, and Donald soon eclipsed Mickey in popularity by the end of the 1930s.
As written, none of them are this trope. They're all just describing the work as being groundbreaking... and then leaving out the entire "Is Unfunny" part of the title. Don't know if they're examples or not, but they need to be rewritten.

I really think My Little Pony needs to be on here. It's a mix between this, Deader Than Disco and maybe even Internet Backdraft. I do not mean to offend anyone, but it is the sad truth. Back in 2010, you probably just heard "brony" and just simply ignored it, then in 2011 bronies got more popular, and by the end of 2012 people were ripping their hair out at the thought of the word. Even bronies themselves are. Again, I do not wish to offend anyone.

But the trope is about something that was new and fresh when it came out, now looking outdated and trite due to so many other works copying the main aspects of the original work. Why would MLP:FIM belong in this trope?
