So, I feel like the Boba Fett example should be expanded and/or moved. The character absolutely counts, but he has since ROTJ to many (paradoxically, sometimes even to the same crowd that consider him a Memetic Badass and Ensemble Dark Horse) and the entry as it stands doesn't mention the movies at all since it's just a Book of Boba Fett entry. It's a Wall of Text, but it's a history that spans 40 years, half a dozen works, and enough mediums to warrant a Franchise/ page on this site.

  • What do you get when a character manages to be an Ensemble Dark Horse, a Memetic Badass, and a Memetic Loser, sometimes at the same time to the same people? Star Wars's Boba Fett.
    • His brief appearance in Empire Strikes Back showed him as a competent bounty hunter with a reputation even Darth Vader knows of, and is instrumental in catching the Millennium Falcon. This is the point where he's unanimously an Ensemble Dark Horse and a Memetic Badass. He doesn't actively do much on screen other than hold a gun and look cool, but damn does he do that well. Then, in Return of the Jedi, he's seemingly killed in an almost comical fashion by a blind man's flailing. This is where the audience splits: some consider him a failure of a character defined by this defeat ignoring his in-universe reputation and others still think he's incredibly badass in spite of his on-screen showing being objectively poor. Some still think he's incredibly badass in general while simultaneously exaggerating his failure here.
    • The prequel movies do him no favors. Attack of the Clones has kid Boba Fett and while he's seemingly very competent for his age due to his father, his status as a Bratty Half-Pint soured the character further for a great deal of the audience, causing the character to lose what mystique he garnered from his original showing. Star Wars: The Clone Wars would assuage this considerably, both making kid Boba come across as more competent and making it clear his character flaws were intentionally written into his character and not simply poor writing.
    • Lastly, The Book of Boba Fett, his first starring role, absolutely tanked his reputation among fans. The show tried to portray him as a noble crime lord facing an insurmountable task, beset on all sides by foes and coming out on top thanks to his skill, force of will, and leadership. Instead, fans just think he's an idiot and a terrible crime boss/mayor, falling for obvious plots, not utilizing his resources, and generally being in a hell of his own making. In a meta sense, the fact that two full episodes of the seven episode series were simply episodes of The Mandalorian, with Boba's appearances in the episodes being essentially non-existent, made it look like Boba was such a loser he couldn't even star in his own show.

The MCU version of Peter Quill seems to be relying on character flaws that for the most part were intentional. From what I've seen so far, the only reason anyone considers him a Memetic Loser is because he helped Thanos win.

Question: should this entry be cut? It doesn't sound like it really fits. Tingle being a loser isn't a fandom joke so much as it is the way he's actually portrayed in-game, and the fandom reaction isn't exaggerating it, but simply despising the character.

Tingle from The Legend of Zelda is a 35 year-old man who dresses in a green onesie and wishes to become a fairy. He's meant to be a Manchild and is loved by the Japanese fanbase... But the Western fanbase love to loath him. When you have a trope called "Americans Hate Tingle" named after you, you know you're a memetic loser.

3 years too late, but I think that makes him sound like The Scrappy more than anything.

Zoidberg from Futurama is also an example of an actual loser whose fanon portrayal doesn't exaggerate his loserness anymore than it already is, so he should also be removed.
