Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
The two examples you claim fit still barely explain how they fit the trope. Spoiled Sweet is not just "nice rich girl"- they must still be spoiled. And they must be somewhat naive or ditzy as well.
In other words, those last two examples lack context.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness^ Naive and ditzy seem like unnecessary restrictive qualifiers. Tropes Are Flexible
Edited by BlackMage43^ While I'd personally agree, but consensus disagrees with you.
As of now, the trope does require the character be sheltered, naive, ditzy, or something of the sort.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness^ Especially with the name of the trope, it's not especially clear that the character has to be naive/ditzy. If this was Ditzy Dame But Spoiled Sweet, then there's an argument there.
Frankie, at least is naive and a bit immature as well as sheltered.
Edited by MegaJI do the cleanup of Spoiled Sweet because the misuse and ZCE for this trope is annoying. I've been told before that I interpret the trope too narrowly, but I'm open to discussing it.
I really welcome suggestions, corrections and better context for actual examples.
About the Franke girl:
This is a classic ZCE. It only says she's not mean. That's not enough for Spoiled Sweet. Then it says she has rich parents. Also not enough context.
That is getting much better. Being overly nice and sweet to all kids is the defining trait. Being sheltered and pampered is also required. She most likely fits, but there was no way of recognizing that from the first example context on the page. If the example context mentioned concrete examples of her being pampered by her parents or indulged by friends, it would be perfect.

Edited by XFlloWell, regardless of the exact trope criteria, those examples are still poorly written. That's the crux of the problem.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYou know, it a trope needs extra criteria to fit thats not explicit in its name, i think there's an issue.
Well, trope names by themselves are rarely descriptive enough. We should never assume to understand what any trope means just from the trope name.
Yeah, but the fact Spoiled Sweet needs them to be Naive and ditzy would not crossed my mind.
I'll add that being The Ditz is not required. They may overlap though.
"The Ditz is a character whose defining characteristic is profound stupidity, or quirkiness. Female ditzes tend to be sweet and naive."
Both (female) Ditz and Spoiled Sweet are sweet and naive. Spoiled Sweet doesn't have to be stupid or an airhead. note
I didn't mean to say the girl had to be The Ditz, but that it was one possible trait left to help fill the "sheltered and naive" criteria.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessFor what it's worth, I typically interpret the trope as needing a possibility they could have been spoiled rotten. It isn't strictly correct, I admit, but it helps avoid misuse in the sense that we have a character who isn't just "rich + nice"
^^ Yes, that is true, and definitely a good catch.
^ I absolutely agree. It's often played in that way that she's in a position to act like an Alpha Bitch, Rich Bitch or Spoiled Brat because she has it all, but she's not mean or catty. Rather she's an absolute sweetheart instead.
We can take this to the cleanup thread so that we don't clutter ATT.

I've noticed some examples of Spoiled Sweet were removed from Degrassi: The Next Generation's character page. I looked at the Clean Up page and while there is noted misuse, there does seem to be some stinginess on the part of the cleaning though I will say a lot of the context is in the character descriptions. These are the examples:
- This was for Tori Santamaria. I'll accept that one being nuked as it's unclear whether or not she was upper class, she was just a pageant girl.
- This was for character Fiona Coyne, an upper-class girl with old money and is the daughter of a diplomat, who starts off as aloof and bitchy but after getting treatment for her mental issues and alcoholism, she becomes a lot more confident and friendlier and uses her money to help her friends and cares less about social standing. She even gets a job after running into money issues, though it was an adjustment. I can accept that one being nuked as I do feel the character is Spoiled Sweet, but it came after character development.
This is for Frankie, rich girl, daughter of the mayor. This was removed in unfairness, as Frankie fits this trope to a T. She's very nice to all students of Degrassi until they're mean to her, but she's sheltered as well in terms of how the world works not in her rich white girl bubble.
So thoughts?
