I've argued that they should be, but right now they aren't. However, if a certain work is overflowing with spoilers to the point where most of the page would be hidden behind spoiler tags, you could make it Spoilers Off. And if a character is a Walking Spoiler, their folder or page becomes Spoilers Off and must have a spoiler warning in the folder title or page header.

Walking Spoiler is currently a mess as it deals with wiki policy, contradicting our other policies at several points. It's just another thing to deal with eventually.

(For example, "Spoiler Character" has been mostly phased out in favor of "charname (SPOILERS)" or similar, but Walking Spoiler still lists the former as the way to do it.)

Oh, that reminds me: should we do a cleanup thread on that Walking Spoiler trope to comply with the other policies if it's necessary on the appropriate forums?

According to Handling Spoilers, "You can use descriptors where the character's name would be an inherent spoiler (example: 'The Killer')." Walking Spoiler should be updated to reflect this.

I think that, in theory, character pages are meant to be Spoilers Off, but in practice they're treated more like any other wiki/work page.

^ Character pages are not meant to be Spoilers Off.

We've discussed this before, several times. The spoiler policy applies the same to character pages as to work pages, because character pages are an "extension of the work page" (my own wording).

It's never wrong to take out a spoiler tag.

^As a blanket statement, that is not accurate. It is more correct to say that the application of a spoiler tag should have some reasonable justification and application, per our Handling Spoilers policy. We do not willy-nilly go through removing spoiler tags that adhere to the spoilers policy, just because of a preference.

As far as I know, neither character pages or moments pages are for post-viewing discussion. Forum threads are for post-viewing discussion. :-)

Of course character sheets and moments pages are spoileriffic. The current spoiler policy is to never spoiler tag a trope title, all-spoiler-tagged example context is frowned upon, but ok for the current season (or the latest season finale). Character names should never be spoiler-tagged. However, seeing a trope name should not spoil everything by default. The covered context can say it was subverted or something similar.

In my opinion, it's best to write a spoiler warning at the top of the page. I've always assumed people who browse through character sheets are up to date with their favourite series or have read the book... or they don't mind getting spoiled for that particular work.

^ Moment pages are, they're included in Administrivia.Spoilers Off for that reason.

^ Thanks, good to know. (Also, the word discussion threw me off — it implies conversation and natter, which I think should not be on the moment pages either, but it makes sense that it's for people who have explicitly watched or read the work.)

~gjjones, I was just thinking that Walking Spoiler could use a cleanup or TRS thread.

If there are no objections, I’m going to open a cleanup or TRS thread in the next couple of days.
