Sounds like something similar to Inertial Impalement.

an ability that would deal Collision Damage to enemies? I'm not a Quake player, but am I to understand the enemies take damage because the shield makes them care for you??

Physical: Compare

Self-Damaging Attack Backfire Harmful to Touch The Spiny Attack Reflector

Emotional: Compare

The Power of Love Tears of Remorse I'm Having Soul Pains

It's an interesting idea and may be worth of creating a self-standing trope if it's not Too Rare to Trope, meaning it would need about 10-15 examples. I can only think of physical versions like melee attacking enemies endowed with some attribute like fire/lightning/poison. Even then, I couldn't name one on the spot.

Attack Reflector seems to be closest to what I'm looking for. Also I thought I would clarify since there seems to be some confusion: the empathy shield thing doesn't make them care about you or something like that (despite the name), it just makes them take a percent of the damage they do to you. It's similar to the paladin's thorns aura from Diablo 2 (which is listed as an example of Attack Reflector.)

So if there's no actual empathy involved, how is the name of the shield explained In-Universe?

Also, are there visual clues to the actual working of the shield (like counter stikes, flames and the like)?

I don't know why it's called that exactly, but I assume it's because they literally feel your pain (due to suffering the exact same injury). As for how it works, there isn't really a visual effect, you just get damaged and so does the person attacking you (and they make their usual "getting hurt" sound.)
