Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Okay well nobody has responded so for now I’m deleting it again and highlighting that this is already by Base Breaker.
1. Lack of discussion does not equal it's okay to do something. Rather, becuase nobody has approved doing so, it's rather best to not act on it (especially that could be an Edit War).
2. Don't use edit reason to have a conversation. Either convince Sunawani what to do in Private Messages or send them a link here and chat here.
For readability:
- Sunawani has added Protagonist-Centered Morality example.
- Rebochan has removed it for not being YMMV.
- Sunawani has put it back as Designated Hero.
- Rebochan has now removed it again.
As far as I'm concerned, if "several readers" think this, it may be valid.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupSo first off, I didn’t get ANY response to anything. Not from Sunawani, not from here. I’ve actually been suspended for re-adding text to a page, I don’t see why that’s okay now.
Second, the problem is that *Sunawani* thinks Aria is a bad person and her links only showed people that don’t like her. That is a Base Breaker. Everything about her being a Base Breaker is covered. The links she sent in the edit reasons are just people on a different website saying they don’t like a protagonist. It is not “several readers” saying she is a “Designated Hero”, by the standards of that trope and there seems to be no reason to put that text back again.
YMMV is supposedly having tighter standards now and the example was just complaining about a character without any indication of why she was that trope. They’re entire cleanup threads on the forums for removing pointless complaining . But if that is not the case and anyone can add anything to any trope because someone could *think* it is an example and the trope descriptions don’t matter… then seriously is there any standards for anything?
Suspended both Sunawani and Rebochan for edit warring. This should have been reported sooner instead of having the edit war added to.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. If nothing else, the way that second bullet point was added reads as natter.
Okay, what I did was not the right way to handle this and I apologize. Is there a cleanup for this trope or a more dedicated thread for trope use like this one where I could just bring the question up there? It feels like Designated Hero is an easy one to misuse if the troper mistakes “The character presented as a hero in work does lots of unheroic stuff” vs “An unpopular or polarizing protagonist.”
I’ve been trying to clean up the pages for the Webnovel/Webtoon The Villainess Turns The Hourglass (which is in the wrong directory but that’s a different problem) and one of the editors keeps trying to shoehorn the same entry about the protagonist into different tropes that it does not fit. The character is a Base Breaker but the issues related to why are already well documented in the Base Breaker entry, so this just seems to keep veering into Complaining about a character they don’t like.
The trope text that keeps moving:
So when I first removed it from the page it was listed as Protagonist-Centered Morality, which isn’t YMMV and this text doesn’t meet. Now it’s at Designated Hero, but I’m this case the main character’s not a hero, isn’t described as a hero except by people who she’s concealed her nature from, is honest with herself that her actions are not heroic, and constantly calls herself “the villainess.” Whether she’s a likable Anti-Hero isn’t this trope (and again, that’s already well-written up in Base Breaker.)
I want to remove the text again but I’m concerned about being accused of edit warring. I sent an indicator to the editor about the misuse with this explanation.
