For examples, Dragon Ball Z Abridged goes under Web Videos in examples and is listed at FanWorks.Dragon Ball.

They're derivative works of the originals made by their fans, so that sounds like fan works to me. What's the namespace concern? Edit: Oh, as in 'which media category do they go to'? I most often see them in the Web Videos folder.

^On Franchise Original Sin, I moved some examples related to Yu-Gi-Oh! The Abridged Series from the Web Original folder to the Fan Works one, but it was put back by another user. Maybe not a "namespace" concern, per se, but it's the same general idea.

tl;tr (as I understand): examples folders are for published medium and not for namespaces the works are at.

Currently its wiki policy to put all fanmade content in the Fan Works folder as they main Fan Works page has all types from games to web video to comics.

^^ Shouldn't we be putting fanfics in the literature folders then?

^ No, because fanfiction is a distinct medium.

How so? They're literary works, aka literature.

we separate some things for the sake of categorization. animated films are still films but we separate them from films, for example (and they're about to get their own namespace too)

fan fics are literature but they are also a somewhat unique form; all fan fics are derivative and use assets from existing works. this is not the case for all forms of literature, thus making a case for breaking them out as their own category

The fanfic/literature thing has been discussed a lot. But as it stands, they're separated.

Putting fanfics in Literature/ would complicate things way too much, imo.

My opinion on the original topic is that all fanworks should go in the trope's fanworks folder. If there isn't a folder on that page, putting it in the media namespace would be okay too.

Everything discussed here is more suitable for Wiki Talk, so I'm going to lock this because ATT isn't meant for long threads.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
