Invite the troper here for an explanation. "Eden Academy" is used in Viz's international release, so it likely should take priority over "Eden College" (I guess it's from Crunchyroll?).
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupPlease sort this out; I've fixed/declined an inappropriate custom title request (without the requisite move) of "Eden Academy" to "Eden College" twice now. (one was done by narm00).
If "Academy" is used in the international release, then that is the appropriate one.
Edited by SynchronicityI have invited them for discussion. I don't remember Eden "College" being mentioned in Crunchyroll either, but I'll check.
Edit: Yes, Crunchyroll calls it Eden College. Might I suggest that the latter (Eden College, that is) be turned into a redirect?
Edited by SkyCat32 Feels good, don't it?Subpage redirects are free action, as long as they're valid and may be searchable.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI would like to hear Sammy's input on this. I hope it is an appropriate compromise.
⬇️ Then whichever translation came first can be a redirect if such is the case.
Edited by SkyCat32 Feels good, don't it?I'd have to double check, but if I remember correctly the English dub of the anime uses Eden College, so this may be a case of "newest translation wins".
That said I'm partial to Eden Academy as it feels more accurate for the big time school it's supposed to be
Edited by sgamer82Also partial to using Academy. Anya, one of the protagonists, goes to school there, and she's 6-years old. I'm pretty sure Academy makes more sense than college, which is usually used for tertiary educational institutions.
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet Unless I grew it. In that case, throw it in the trash. My understanding is that "newest translation wins" doesn't apply to two different translations that are running concurrently. The manga is still ongoing, so it's just as recent as the anime.
If the anime came out after the manga ended, THEN we'd be looking into replacing manga wording with anime wording.
Sammy still hasn't responded. Is everyone else ok with the redirect?
Edit: Characters.Spy X Family Eden College
⬇️ Done.
Edited by SkyCat32 Feels good, don't it?Again, character redirects don't need permission, go ahead. In rare case if the other name is preferred we can just swap the two.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupSorry, I got the message late. I was only recently made aware that official translation takes precedence (ITC the Viz TL, therefore "Academy").
I was about to make a compromise and go with "Academy" following that. But can the Insistent Terminology entry be kept or should it be removed?
I was not aware there are "EC" logos. The translation may need to be on watch in the future in case it changes.
Regardless, "Insistent Terminology: On a meta level..." is completely inappropriate, we should have something from Translation Tropes.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupInconsistent Dub, is probably the closest, in terms of two official translations using different names in the same language. But if the anime's forced to used college to match up with the art.
Sammy Tommy insists that we should call Characters.Spy X Family Eden Academy "Eden College", but I thought we went according to Western naming customs where applicable, and they appear to have been changing instances of "Eden Academy" to "Eden College" without apparent thread consensus.
I changed it to Eden Academy per the Shonen Jump translation. Technically I am not edit warring, since I don't believe I created the page or header, but I want to avoid one.
