Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.

The edit reason for the deletion :
"Non-sentient inanimate objects aren't supposed to be on character pages."
That, btw, is how it is supposed to be.
What about a Companion Cube?
Is there a cleanup for removing things that don't count as characters from character pages? Because there are many that I know could use such cleanup.
I was wondering about what to do with such. Maybe a "Mechanics" page for vehicles and items, which in many series are important enough and consistent enough across installments to be tropeable. Like mechs in Mecha series and starships in sci-fi which are as important to the setting/as big draws as character.
- "Non-sentient inanimate objects aren't supposed to be on character pages"
... in that case, we should cutlist Mechstermination Force as well, because it's a game set in a Robot War and all the bosses are robots.
Might as well scrub the Infinity Stones, Infinity Gauntlet, the Ten Rings and everything else on this page as well. Because they're "objects".
And banish King Joe, Narse the Robot Dragon, and Crazygon from the Ultraseven characters list too, because all these are non-sentient robots.
Let's also erase everything from A Shocker on Shock Street out of existance, thanks to the story's Twist Ending revealing every including the two main characters are robots.
Terminator (Main Continuity): Machines should be gone as well, because they're robots and...
... seriously, is it even ok to wipe out what amounts to one-third of a page, just because some troper "feels it shouldn't fit?" without even consulting the cleanup thread in the forums?
I'm not trying to prove anything, but Sammettik just deleted 27 pages note worth of information, compiled by dozens and dozens of tropers over the course of maybe a year.
Because he "didn't think it fits."
That pretty much counts as wiki vandalism, doesn't it?
Edited by RobertTYLThere is this Wiki Talk discussion concerning Inanimate Objects and Locations in Character Pages which would probably be the place to talk this out, the Infinity Stones pages were brought up too. I was only lurking the thread and don't really have a say on this matter, though it seems particularly things which lack characterisation don't go/get troped on character pages.
Pantheon Wick CleaningRobots are not "Non-sentient inanimate objects", they're in fact either sentient, animate or non-objects, which includes videogame bosses. Meaning, they can be listed. However, items, bases, vehicles and piloted mecha don't go to character pages unless they can be attached to their users or are Animate Inanimate Object / Sentient Phlebotinum.
I agree though that Characters.Metal Slug needed some discussion and review before a cut like that.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNot to imply anything, but...
The troper in question also shredded a whole essay from one of the Zelda games
Edited by RobertTYL7 tropes hardly count as "whole essay" and I don't see how any of them could stay. The only problem here is that the troper didn't consider moving the tropes to VideoGame. The Legend Of Zelda The Wind Waker or Fi's folder, which they probably should have done so.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThe length of the scrubbed section is irrelevant. If it fits, it fits. If it doesn't fit, then it doesn't.
P Ms should be sent out if they haven’t already.
And for the record, I’m all for getting rid of some of the things in that MCU folder (like the Staff of One).
On another note: Robert, you're basically saying that we need to count objects, or we'll have to remove other sections too. To which the obvious answer is, okay, let's do that.
Going "Well, if we remove 'objects' then we'd be forced to remove the infinity gauntlet too!" only makes sense as an argument if we have some sort of rule saying that the infinity gauntlet must be in the character pages. And we don't.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroWell... this doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
Fine.
Since the deleted stuff are quite lengthy and are the compiled efforts of several years' work by dozens of tropers, instead of flushing them entirely, how about if I make a new page to catalogue them under?
Like this: Metal Slug - Slugs and Bosses
NOTE: I've seen people doing stuff like these - it's NOT uncommon
Edited by RobertTYLThey were deleted because they don't belong on character pages. Making a different character page doesn't change anything... All it means is that the reversion of the work will be done through the cutlist instead of editing a page.
Nobody ever claimed it's uncommon. We're claiming it's not allowed.
Like... You're basically asking "Is it okay if I make a new character page for the things that are explicitly forbidden from having a character page?" And, like, no. It's not okay, because that's forbidden.
Also, if people spent years of work on something that isn't allowed, then that's too bad but doesn't actually change anything.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroCan't you just copy the deleted material and move it back to the work page(s)? I know it's annoying, and the deleter should have done that, but if it's not Character stuff then it's not Character stuff.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. All the bosses should stay, they're not simply inanimate objects, they either have A.I.s or are manned by a crew and for the purposes of the game, they are treated as a single actor characterized by their visual design, gameplay and animations.
The slugs I understand, but like mightymewtron said, the tropes that apply to them should have been moved to the main page instead of just getting deleted.
If there are no objections, I'll restore the bosses to the character page and rewrite and move the slug tropes to the main work page.
I support that (^) decision, but thats just me
(^^) That sounds reasonable, speaking as a general contributor, I don't know much about the work in question but that seems alright.
Pantheon Wick CleaningSo no matter what the rules are, it seems these cuts have been done in a really slapdash way that concerns me.
Aside from the obvious point about the bosses, what I'm concerned about here is the fact that many of these inanimate objects, despite not being characters, still presumably have tropable aspects of them and if so, they need to be moved to the main work pages. Which, maybe they have been but I've seen no indication in this thread to be the case.
Or that many of the "inanimate" Slugs are, in fact, animate and are just as deserving of an entry as support characters since they're not tanks, they're camels or elephants, etc.
Like, just cutting is easy but only half the work.

I might have missed a memo on the forums or something, but... Metal Slug used to have a subsection for the bosses, player vehicles, etc.
Well, they're not there now. Is there a mass migration of information somewhere?
