Get Emperor's debut and most of the subgenre becomes unnecessary.

I mean, if you're interested in the more symphonic aspects of the genre, both Kamelot and Nightwish have created some decent albums in the mid-to-latter 2000s. However, I'd advice you to stay off the newest album of either group. My own recommendations would be The Black Halo for the former and Imaginaerum from the catalog of the latter.

So apparently Eminem released a new single.

Man, I'm conflicted. On one hand, he seems to be really opening up himself up here; I don't think I've ever heard him so vulnerable (then again, I've never listened to Recovery).

On the other, damn is this whiny. The instrumental, the chorus, the fact that the song is basically saying "Why don't you like meeeee, I'm trying so haaaaaard!" makes this Angst Dissonance in audio form.

Maybe I'm insensitive, but I really wish Eminem would stop making songs like this. The sappy piano tracks on MMLP2 were always the ones I skipped, and I didn't care for the similar "Guts Over Fear" or "Phenomenal" either.

Am I the only who misses New Wave music? I wish it would make a comeback. Modern pop is so electronic anyways; bring back that 80's synth! cool

I'm more of an 80s funk/post-disco man, myself.

But if you want a New Wave revival, Synthwave is probably what you're looking for. Look up NewRetroWave on youtube and go from there.

I've been trying to learn how to make electronic music, like synthwave. Can anyone recommend a place where I can learn about it?

So, I just wanted to post this song to your guys.

I just finished listening to this Sneaker Pimps song. I'm finding this a little better than the radio version.

I think this would be the right place to post this:

[[www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-43924609 Abba announce first new music since 1982]]

Pop group Abba have returned to the studio to record their first new music since the 1980s.

The Swedish quartet said the new material was an "unexpected consequence" of their recent decision to put together a "virtual reality" tour.

"We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the studio," the band said on Instagram.

"And it was like time stood still."

No release date has been set for the new songs - but one of them, titled I Still Have Faith In You, will be premiered in December on a TV special broadcast by the BBC and NBC.

I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand I am a fan of Abba but on the other, new music by old bands is rarely as good as their original stuff.

[up]I thought they'd avoid the reunion phase most bands have to go through. Guess it's a matter of waiting for the tunes to come out, to find out if they're good or not.

But I'm not sure they'd want to perform a world tour. They probably can afford to, considering the record will probably sell a fair lot.

[up]They are doing a sort of tour. Apparently the reason the new songs came about is because they were recording stuff for a vertual tour.

[up]Should've added the word 'physical'. A virtual tour removes a lot of touring and travelling stress from the members (especially Anni-Frid and Agnetha), hence why they probably accepted that instead of a physical world tour.

I've noticed that rock radio stations are starting to shorten songs. I rarely listen to it (i mainly listen to my cds, spotify, or internet radio), but the other day I did have the local rock station on. They played "Hey Man, Nice Shot", and literally just played the first 1:46 of the song. I heard some other songs that were also shortened as well (though not nearly as severely as that one).

[up] It's not that new, really. I've worked at my local radio station for a couple of months, and one of my duties was drafting the playlist for the hour. There were shortened versions of nearly every song they had playing there. It's done to pad out the hour when there's not enough time for a longer track, like when you've spent a minute less than planned to announce the upcoming tracks.

Why do certain bands try to pretend certain parts of their career never existed (Pantera's 80s albums and the non-Paul Rodgers Bad Company albums come to mind, as they're not even mentioned on their official websites). If they had offensive lyrics at those points I can see it, but otherwise, not only will people find out easily, but it's also insulting to the artists who performed on those albums.

Richard Swift passed away yesterday. He's better known for playing with The Black Keys, The Shins, and the Arcs. But I loved Swift for his brief stint in my favorite band, Starflyer 59, and for his solo albums Walking Without Effort, The Novelist, and Dressed Up for the Letdown.

[up]×3: it tends to have a Streisand Effect type impact on me - that is the more I hear an artist hates an album the more curious I get. On the other hand I can understand it a little because if, say you're a punk band but early in your career you made a keyboard-heavy progressive rock album, you don't want a new listener trying that one first and getting the completely wrong idea note .

How many times can you see a band live before it gets old?

The answer is it never gets old.

Everybody's all "Jerry's old and feeble" till they see him run down a skyscraper and hijack a helicopter mid-flight.

So I'm weirdly addicted to this "every other beat is missing" youtube trend - I guess because the results end up still "musical" sounding and even recognizable, even as the rhythm and melody is altered and the lyrics are turned into gibberish. A few favorites: Crawling, Uptown Funk note , Smooth Criminal, and Stressed Out note .

I'm into the trend of remixing songs into minor or major key. It leads to some really interesting takes on songs:

Wow, no posts since 2018 in this topic? Anyway, how do you see the music industry coping with this virus, especially since concerts have been cancelled? Since most artists have home studios, we may see a flood of albums coming (even the ones who have been infected, if they arent bedridden, could still record their parts seperately), and you dont even need to really leave your home to distribute your album digitally, though it sucks for people who want physical copies. Also, I see a lot of "I'm a fighter/survivor" type lyrics being even more prominent around this time.

Dropkick Murphys streamed a live performance for St Patrick's Day - I didn't catch it but it went over well apparently. So maybe for established artists I see streaming shows as a way to promote releases. I've been hearing about it affecting independent musicians who were depending on live performances for money, and one thing that's sort of cool is that on Friday, March 20th, bandcamp.com is giving 100% of music sales to bands (usually some of it goes to the site itself). If there's some local band you like who uses that service now's a good time to support them- or you can find the artist's official site and buy merch
