Lux waved Spriggan down the steps with the others, and collapsed back into the incredibly comfortable chair. On a whim she undid the more solid parts of her outfit, shucking the armor and stripping down to the undersuit. Now that everyone was gone, she noticed a couch had been vacated.

With a yawn, she picked up the discarded armor and dropped it next to the also incredibly comfortable seating. She dropped onto the couch with considerable force, but the sheer volume of cushioning prevented any sound from accompanying it.

Very shortly, she was asleep.

...It's Gonna Be One Of Those Days, Huh? Damn Meddling Mongrel Tarnishing The Work Of A Good Pure Concept...

— Hissing through his teeth, Digamma called up fresh fibres to repair his vestments, then clapped sharply at the Militantiaries. Each of the things nodded back, then disintegrated into amorphous masses of threads and metal, slithering into the cracks of the once pristine floor. Once they were all gone ( which took five seconds), the ancient Nomad turned back to Zyzaxyz, gesturing with his scythe at the floor around the abomination. This chunk of charred black marble broke off from the floor, carrying it upward. A gigantic hatch opened in the ceiling, revealing the starry depths of space. It wouldn't be long before the beast was jettisoned... Whether that was enough to leave his sanctum and fortress unmolested was anyone's guess.—

— Saren followed the others, gaze fixed on the silver Nomad in front of him.

Meanwhile, several others, Spriggan included, would start to hear faint murmurs of comm chatter... inside their own heads.—

If anyone had bothered to scan the room they had just exited they would have noticed that Icarax was no longer nursing his wounds; in fact he was not even in the room.

Spriggan frowned. As much as he wanted to help her to the portal, the TGS agent decided to respect Lux's wishes and leave.

Dis Baba peered down into the hole after the departing Champions, then glanced at the roof and tutted softly as he shook his head. "Now now, Uncle Pennybags," he chided, wagging a finger at the ceiling with a devious grin, "Play fair."

Indeed, the sounds of comm chatter had slowly begun to fade from the minds of those afflicted, subsumed and drowned out by an altogether different noise. Rather than the murmurs of countless voices relaying orders and coordinates in more languages than could readily be identified, Spriggan and the others who had been touched in this fashion would instead hear the euphonous chirps, clacks and calls of myriad different species of insects and arthropods; the droning buzz of a hornet's wings wove together with the rasping cries of the cidada, and the cricket's chirps contrasted neatly with the innumerable clacks of countless wing cases opening and closing rapidly in a veritable symphony of ambient noise. Strangely, this 'music' did little to hamper their concentration, and while odd it was by no means unsettling; its only purpose, it seemed, was to shut down the flow of comm chatter and give their minds room to think.

"Much better," the Kin overlord remarked, sitting down on the topmost stare and peering down into the dark as though he could see what was transpiring far below—not as unlikely a possibility as it might have seemed, given the abilities he had demonstrated thus far. "Let's try to enjoy the show without any outside interference, shall we?"

In the darkness below, the Champions continued on their way down the winding, serpentine path, quickly their only link to the ballroom behind as they ventured forth into the black. As Dis Baba had assured them, their eyes had begun to adjust to the gloom; while they could not see as far as they would have been able to in daylight or under a star-filled sky, they could see the path clearly for somewhere around fifty feet in either direction, and though much of the surrounding environment was still obscured by the dark, given what little they were able to glimpse of the landscape to either side of the path whenever they drew close enough, this was almost certainly for the best. Never had the phrase 'the hills have eyes' ever been more apt—or literal, in this case, for as the Champions and their Nomad allies stared into the abyss, it gazed back with far greater scrutiny.

After several minutes of walking, the path began to narrow and turned sharply to pass through a tight defile; what lay within this gorge could not yet be seen, due to the fact that its osseous walls stretched far too high to peer over and they were far too close together. That said, a sound could be heard echoing through the passage, echoing and reverberating off petrified bone until it reached the ears of the Champions. It sounded, oddly enough, like the beating of a great many wings; perhaps a flock of birds or something similar had chosen to roost in the relative safety of the defile?

A grim expression spread across Lambda's face. The argent Nomad would have prefered to avoid such a place—after all, the chances for an ambush were extremely high and the more intelligent members of Echidna's brood would certainly realize that—but they had no choice in the matter; this was were the path lead, and he knew that deviating from it would be suicide. Sighing in distaste, the silver deity pulled his sleeves back to expose his ornate metal gauntlets and strode in first.

Zyxaxyz did indeed rocket towards the gaping hatch in the ceiling, but as its body swelled and mutated into even greater sizes and more and more grotesque configurations, its velocity began to diminish rapidly; by the time it actually reached the hatch, a good five seconds had passed. Just as it was caught in the pull of the vacuum and began to sail outside, however, the creature's six tentacles—tumescent and engorged things now several times their original length—shot forth to seize the rim of this hatch in a death grip.

"If I...mussssst perisssh,"    it gurgled, its words distorted by the hideous mutations which had taken hold of its substance,    "Thhhheeeennnn I...sssshall not...do sssso...alone!"

And so it hung there, on the verge of being sucked out into space. All the while, the countdown continued its inexorable advance.

-The Dullahan feels the gravitational forces pulling at him, ready to disintegrate his armor.-

At last...

Actually, no.

What?!

It is not the end for you. There is still much to be done.

Begone, Nomad!

I am no Nomad.

Then whatever manner of fiend you may be, leave.

I cannot. We are bonded. We are one.

Bonded?

You do not remember? You killed me, you absorbed me.

Absorbed? No. You are only a fragment. You are nowhere near as powerful.

You think so? We have all eternity to prove you wrong. I live through you now, murderer.

Live? A short life, then. A dying star now ends my purpose.

Oh? Are you not the shadow, the keeper of light? I assure you, your purpose begins anew. Once more you will keep the sun's power from falling into the wrong hands. You will serve your purpose 'till the end. You WILL be made to pay for your sacrilege.

And when the time comes...

-Slowly the Dullahan is pulled away from the gravitational sinkhole and through the endless void, towards a brightly-burning star.-

Kimimaro paused briefly.

"Why do I suddenly feel angry at Lux for some reason? ...Oh, well; probably this freaky place starting to get to me."

He and Kisame continued on.

"Soooo..." Kisame said. "What kind of things should we expect to run into down here, Lambda-san?"

Digamma gave a grumbling sigh, then bellowed, flinging a massive blaze of solar power upward, the idea being to blow out that whole chunk of the ceiling Zyzaxyz was clinging to.—

"You're looking at one now," Lambda replied grimly, pointing at something up ahead.

Before the argent Nomad and the two shinobi, the defile widened considerably into a gully some twenty feet across and at least two hundred in length, and the ossified walls stretched higher than they eye could track in the perpetual gloom; veins of a blue, spongy throbbed at random intervals along these sheer cliffs, and here and there cataract-afflicted eyes of varying sizes and colours rolled madly in their sockets, some pausing to stare blindly at the Champions for but a brief moment before resuming their agitated, frantic spinning. It was a scene of madness, to put it bluntly, and matters were not helped by the fact that a small number of circular, mouthlike appertures were disgorging thick clouds of a noxious red smog, lending the whole place a hazy and surreal air.

Against such an insane backdrop, it was almost possible to overlook the strange creature which hovered a few feet off the ground at the heart of the gully; yet its bizarre and garish nature made the thing impossible to ignore. It was readily apparent on first glance that this floating organism was the source of the flapping noises that had been heard a few moments before, yet it was immediately apparent that this creature was alone...and that it was no bird. It seemed to be nothing more than a lumpy, misshapen mass of frantically flapping wings, thrown together hodge-podge and with no rhyme or reason to its chaotic and asymmetrical design; exactly how many wings the creature had was impossible to determine, for they were constantly in motion and whirling about faster than the eye could track, but at the very least there must have been nine. A scaly, serpentine tail jutted from the lower part of this strange organism, trailing behind it like the string of some macabre balloon, and through the maelstrom of wings and pinions brief glimpses of a blue body with numerous eyes and orifices could be seen.

"A Chichimec," Lambda explained, "an abomination of the air. Do not be fooled by the creature's ungainly appearance or by the fact that it is scarcely much larger than yourselves; it is extremely dangerous. More to the point, while it may not look like it, it is also of comparable intelligence to a scholarly human being."

The clump of wings and feathers was currently flying in a slow, loose circle at the heart of the gully, its tail oscillating loudly like the rattle of a rattle snake; if it had noticed the Champions or was aware of their presence at all, it was impossible to tell.

The piece of the ceiling was torn free, and Zyxaxyz went drifting several thousand metres into space of the span of the next six seconds. Unfortunately for Digamma, it was not far enough; thanks to the creature's bizarre gravitic powers and its exponentially-increasing mass, it had only covered four thousand, five hundred metres when the countdown reached zero. The monstrosity's glowing, tumescent body flared like a supernova in the night sky for a brief instance, then vanished from sight as it imploded into a black hole of relatively small size; as it did so, the golden Reaper's entire complex shook and shuddered violently, and the ceiling shrieked and groaned in protest as it was torn away altogether and went tumbling towards the event horizon of this new singularity. Air howled at deafening volumes as it fled from the chamber at all possible speed, and the plating of the walls was rapidly stripped down and sucked into oblivion as well, preceding part of their superstructures by a matter of seconds.

Fortunately for Digamma, the singularity was relatively short-lived; his chamber was ravaged for but a span of five seconds before this minute tear in the space-time continuum collapsed, unable to sustain itself any longer. Nevertheless, the damage sustained during this brief time had been quite severe; were the golden Nomad to investigate or call up some manner of diagnostic, he would find that fully a third of his installation had been destroyed outright, and a further twenty percent of it had been rendered nearly or completely inoperable as a result of the devastation wrought by Zyxaxyz' cataclysmic end. It was fortunate that the creature had been tossed as far as it had been, and that his installation had thus been on or near the very edge of the singularity's gravitic field; otherwise, Digamma himself might have been annihilated.

The first thing spriggan would feel would be an iron hard grasp on his left shoulder, if he did not respond quikly enough however Icarax would drive his sword through his spinal chord.

Icarax now no longer cared for the Nomad with them; what he wanted now to kill as many champions as possible, the darkness only made his jod easier.
