Hmm, I should probably put pictures up in my entries too.

Concerning how many ways we're detailing lethal abilities, it is something highly relevant to a trainer that wants to avoid inflicting (or suffering!) them at all costs. It's no shadier than mentioning how a martial artist isn't allowed to snap a dude's neck during a tournament.

Concerning [DATA EXPUNGED], I think it should be used very sparingly. Things like MISSINGNO., Mewtwo, and various other things that would probably be covered up seem appropriate, and for Diglett it would probably be funny enough given its memetic status. Outside that though, it seems out of place.

How the hell are we handling Mewtwo, anyway? Like, how "public" is he at this point?

Also, if nobody else has called them, I might as well pick up Raikou and Entei to complete that line.

Hi, I've been lurking this thread for a couple weeks and this project looks totally awesome ^_^ . I haven't actually... went through the whole thread yet though, just the newer posts, sorry D= . But I was wondering, there doesn't seem to be an article for the Eevee line yet, my favorite Pokemon, and I'd really like to see something for it! Is anybody working on it/claimed it so far?

Also, I've been reading random articles when I'm bored that seem interesting; it's all pretty good! But gaaahhh, so many Pokemon (not even touching the new ones coming out), I don't know how they could all ever be finished XD .

Nobody's working on the Eevee line because that line is intimidatingly huge; and since each form is highly distinct, requires the full amount of work to be put in for each one. Basically, nobody really wants to shoulder themselves with that much work. Feel free to claim it if you're interested and willingly to take on the burden, though.

Incidentally, I plan to do the Baltoy line next.

...Oh.

...I guess that makes sense.

cough

Well, I was kind of hoping that someone with awesome, like, I dunno', biology and zoology skillz would be able to do something super-cool with it that would blow anything I could think of out of the water... Which, if anybody's interest is sparked with this reminder of Eevee's existence, HELLO, PLZCLAIM.

But if it doesn't work out like that, I guess I could tentatively try my hand at something. But is there a setting here for 'not-quite-claiming-so-feel-free-to-try-but-attempting-to-so-there-may-be-something-from-me'? 'Cuz I'm totally on that setting.

kthx, I'll keep lurking here... =3 .

Oh, and if anybody has their own thoughts or ideas for Eeveelutions, feel free to toss 'em out and I may be inspired... or something... I dunno'.

Eevee: ''I think we were thinking of having an open discussion on Eevee before writing any articles, since the Eevee line has strong implications for anything evolution-related in other entries.

I'd think wild Eevee would have a wide, varied range in the wild, but each location's Eevee almost exclusively evolve into a single final form. (Aside from Espeon and Umbreon.)

So, near a vein of Thunderstone (we could probably be more explicit about what these stones are, too) you'd tend to find dens of Jolteon, Eterna Forest probably has wild Leafeon even if Pearl never ran into any, etc. Maybe the Espeon/Umbreon trigger is Apricorn exposure+emotional stability.

Redaction: While a few things are probably better off unrevealed for effect, I think {{a nattering editor's annotation -Bill}} is more in character (and potentially entertaining) than an SCP [DATA EXPUNGED].

Mewtwo: the approach I've taken in the Cinnabar entry is that Blaine spilled the beans on the project a few years after the Mansion was destroyed, though how much is known about Mewtwo itself is still up in the air.

Some variables to address:

  1. Was Team Rocket involved? Most adaptations say yes, but Red/Blue didn't seem to imply such. TR's surely not the only shady force in Kanto.
  2. How intelligent is Mewtwo?
  3. Did Red capture Mewtwo? If so, what did he do with it? If not, where'd it head off to?

1. I'd say that Team Rocket was involved, but mostly they just funded the project and supplied some personnel. The majority of the project was supervised by Mr. Fuji and Blaine.

2. I'd say its easily as intelligent as a human, if not slightly more intelligent. And fully capable of speech via telepathy.

3. Red did capture Mewtwo in this continuity. Mewtwo was kept a secret until Red caught it and all hell broke loose. Controversy (mostly) died down after it was made certain that Mewtwo was not as vicious as it seems. Probably due to Red's influence. Shortly before Red's disappearance, he relinquished ownership of all the various legendaries he's caught.

Mewtwo, since then, legally belongs to Blaine but is classified as wild pokemon. But, as far as the League is concerned, poses no threat to humanity and is usually content in hanging out in the Cerulean Cave. In fact, it is considered an honorary League agent. Frequently sending wildlife reports from the Cerulean Cave and even participating secret exhibition matches in the Kanto Stadium.

Burmy Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Burmy [#412]
  • Wormadam [#413]
  • Mothim [#414]

Notable Biology

Burmy are small, caterpillar-like Bug Pokemon that are found living in trees in the Sinnoh region. Distant relatives of the Caterpie line, they are generally sedentary, rarely leaving the trees in which they are born. Their most famous feature are their cloaks made out of various materials, which they make instinctively with any material on hand and silk.

Shortly after they hatch, Burmy make cases out of leaves and silk in order to better protect themselves from the cold of their native Sinnoh. This case is known as a Leaf Cloak, and are used to help them blend in as well. However, these cases are rather fragile, and often break apart during battle. As a result, Burmy will form a new cloak out of any materials on hand. Two known variants of Burmy cloaks are the Sand Cloak and the Trash Cloak.

Burmy that happen to find themselves in a region with little suitable foliage and plenty of gravel will make a Sand Cloak out of gravel. These cloaks can break rather easily as well, but help them blend in better with their surroundings. Burmy who live near buildings inside cities will make a Trash Cloak out of building insulator. This also has the unfortunate tendency to cause asbestos contamination in humans and other Pokemon. As an upside, insulator keeps Burmy the warmest out of any cloak, though that downside means that trainers tend to have Trash Cloak Burmy the least, as their lifespans can be shortened depending on how long they have the cloak.

Once a Burmy evolves, their form is based on the gender of the Pokemon. Female Burmy evolve into Wormadam, which have a different secondary type depending on the cloak they had on before evolving. The Leaf, Sand, and Trash Cloaks make a Wormadam have a secondary type of either Grass, Ground, or Steel respectively, depending on which one they had on before they evolved. Unlike Burmy, a Wormadam's cloak is permanently fused to their body in the evolutionary process that gives them their secondary type, and as a result they can learn powerful moves such as Leaf Storm, Fissure, and Iron Head. They can also learn Psyhic moves such as Psybeam and Psychic. As their cloaks are permanently fused, there is no way to remove the cloak without killing the Pokemon, as they become part of its body. Even taking a piece off would be like peeling off its skin.

Male Burmy, on the other hand, lose their cloaks once they evolve into into Mothim. Mothim are wanderers, spending most of their time flying around the Sinnoh region looking for nectar. Like Wormadam, they can learn Psybeam and Psychic, and powerful Bug-type moves such as Bug Buzz and Silver Wind. Mothim like to steal from Combee hives, and will enlist the help of other Pokemon such as Butterfree to put the Combee guards to sleep with Sleep Powder and steal their honey. If working alone, they will slip in silently, take some honey, and then leave unnoticed. Due to their wandering nature and strong fight muscles, particularly exploratory Mothim can be spotted as far south as Kanto and Johto.

Habitat

Burmy and Wormadam are generally found in forests, though small numbers can be found in mountains and cities with suitable greenery. Wormadam have no particular habitat, as they are always traveling while searching for nectar.

Diet

Burmy and Wormadam live off of leaves and sap from trees, while Mothim live off of nectar and pilfered Combee honey.

Hazards

Burmy and its evolutions are very docile, preferring to flee than risk direct confrontation. However, Wormadam and Mothim especially are capable of harming a human being if significantly threatened. Wormadam know fairly powerful moves, and Mothim prefer to use Poisonpowder or Psybeam to put down a particularly dangerous threat. For this reason, always be sure to keep some Antidote on hand. Trash Cloak Burmy and Wormadam have a tendency to cause asbestos contamination and mesothelioma in their trainers from prolonged exposure if their insulator was acquired from a particularly old building. For this reason, it is a good idea to clean your Burmy after a battle, or wear a breath mask once it becomes a Wormadam. [[Trainer's Note: Due to Burmy's instinctual need for a cloak, it is a good idea to keep an eye on it at all times, lest it makes a cloak out of say, your clothes or a wedding dress, often ripping them apart in the process.]]

Courting and Childrearing

When it's time to mate, Wormadam release special pheremones into the air, attracting Mothim from miles around. When a Mothim arrives, they mate and the Wormadam attaches her fertilized eggs to the Mothim, which then deposits eggs in groups of two on any suitable tree. This can cause them to go as far down as Johto, which has lead to a small population of Burmy inhabiting Route 38. After placing down eggs, the baby Burmy are left on their own.

Social Structure

The Burmy line possesses no true grouping instincts, though Mothim can be found in large flocks, and Burmy and Wormadam can have up to six members sharing the same tree.

Still doing exhibition matches? Like in Stadium 2? So Mewtwo is now like a Blood Knight, but Lawful Good?

Lawful Good is pushing it, he's more Lawful Neutral now. It's implied that he's compliant with the League because its convenient for both of them. He gets to do more or less what he wants, and the occasional fight. While the League gets a super powerful bio-weapon at their disposal.

That is until Gold caught him. Which caused a bit of a stir in the League community. But Mewtwo was impressed by his skill, and Gold was granted temporary ownership.

Player Character hax at work, but yes. A lot of information included in the dex wouldn't make sense based on legends alone. Some observable data is needed, so why not anecdotes from trainers who managed to catch such rare beasts?

Though not all captures are public, I'd think Giratina and Arceus would definitely be kept hush hush.

I think we determined earlier that legendaries like Arceus and others on their level can't actually be caught. The thing that is fought and captured is actually just a lesser avatar they create that's not nearly as powerful as the actual article. They allow these avatars to be caught only by those they deem worthy after proving themselves in a fight. Or something like that.

I wrote Suicune as if the Colosseum arc happened, he was captured / shadowed / snagged / purified / released back. I worked in the Ho-oh being caught bit too, but I refrained from absolutely confirming certain things with that.

It might be a little much if all of the legendaries have been caught and thoroughly examined though. We want to be specific, coherent, and at least mildly plausible, but unknown mystique is a very fun and powerful to work with and we can definitely afford to paint gaping holes in our mural. Even the captured legendaries don't necessarily have to play along with SCIENCE — I prefer to think they're smart snough to keep a few secrets.

Aditionally, for those caught we should at least think about the ramifications of holding an avatar of a raw force of nature in captivity. I'm hoping I can touch on this with Raikou.

well, since their avatars are only with you since you proved yourself worthy and they're allowing it, I'd assume that if you tried to pull any questionable stuff with them, they would be like "No. You've lost your avatar of god privileges. Goodbye." But then again, who knows how they would perceive the situation.

It's also possible that not all the legendaries would even be capable of making avatars like that. I'd assume the main Gen 4 ones (Arceus, Giratina, Palkia, Dialga) can do that since their powers are all firmly in Reality Warper territory, and if they didn't do so there would be a whole lot of You Cannot Grasp the True Form running around. Deoxys, probably capable of it but might not actually do it. Mew, Darkrai, and Cresselia...maybe.

But chances are not a whole lot of others are capable of that kind of metaphysical projection — they've got a lot of brute force in their special areas, but it's not even the same area of expertise. I mean Groudon's whole thing is that he's just...really big. And so on.

I'd assume Mew are more just an elusive species, perhaps good at projecting illusions to evade notice; they wouldn't have avatars, though.

We'd have to figure out how much the Sinnoh legend applies before making a ruling on Arceus, the Dragon Trio, or the Lake Trio.

Well that's not a bad idea (ie.: doing more things in a certain order). I'd guess the Latii are also good at some sort of evasion trick beyond invisibility, in fact I was thinking that their "look human" thing was a sort of notional projection akin to what we see in Wolfs Rain (and I suggested something like that for a fic). Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza are just big. I don't think there is a particular need to work something too convoluted for Deoxys and Jirachi. Celebi might be more of a problem. I keep thinking that there is actually only one.

On higher-order Legendaries I was thinking that we could effectively go meta to work some things in a more ordered manner for the time being and, who knows, maybe it is one of those Avatars who is actually commissioning us to write these 'Dex entries you know? That way they keep some degree of.. uh... editorial control? I'm thinking about you, Uxie. wink

In fact, that is the way I am having it worked out for my new fic with some Legendaries keeping close control of what is known of them. But I digress once again...

Anyways... I'm off for the time being. Still can't get word on the Zigzagoon fanart... :(
