Sounds sorta interesting.

I guess it is.I haven't watched it but I've read great reviews about it. I hope it doesn't take too long to come over seas though.
Just watched it. It's pretty good, has a sort-of Miyazaki feel into it (inb4 whatever, yes I know it's not Miyazaki, no I'm not trying to offend), has this whole "avatars for work" thing that was pretty funny to see, mixes drama and humour nicely (and at the right times, save for a scene near the end) and has the sociopolitical commentary that I usually look for in movies.
Unfortunately I didn't understand a thing about the Solitary-esque game they were playing except for "animals = I win" but that can be improved upon before the next viewing...
Oh, also, King Kazma.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?I may get this when/if it comes to DVD here. There's this constant rumor about it getting released (and a debunked one about Funimation dubbing it)
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar who could drink you under the table~^^YES. King Kazma is the most awesome anime character ever. Although I disapprove of the Important Haircut Kazuma gave him. He looked fine the way he was before. Better, even. I haven't watched the whole movie though.

What the fuck did I just watch???
'''YOU SEE THIS DOG I'M PETTING? THAT WAS COURAGE WOLF.Cute, isn't he?I don't know, but if it was awesome there's a good chance it was Summer Wars.
Yes, I really liked that movie, could you tell? Even though it's an anime take on the "meet the folks" romantic comedy plot that comes out of Hollywood again and again and again and again.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.I've heard nothing but good things about this movie. Planning to watch it after Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo at some point.
My FF.net accountI thought it was pretty good. Not great or anyhing, but solid. Also, it gets a bonus for having a main character who is good at math (despite being implausibly so, with the encryption breaking), simply because I am tired of writers always thinking that people can only identify with characters who hate math. You know, mathematicians (and us physicists) are people too. : P
Anyways, the characters were mostly likable, the Jinnouchi family was interesting to behold and the plot wasn't half-bad. I did think the guy who was behind King Kazuma was a girl for a little while though, not sure why. Probably had to do with his voice.
The movie had some good crowning moments of heartwarming too.

I liked the bits you liked.
I disliked the Japanese supremacist mentality, the glorification of the Warrior class and the warfare of the Sengoku era which is treated with a loving familiarity that they don't give World War II, the USA Three Letter Agencies being the villains once again, which is a really overused trope in Japanese animation. And the hacking was really implausible, though I don't know how inplausible exactly.
But they worked for Takeda ShingenOYAKATA SAMAAAA!!!! so they can't be all bad
I loved the Three Letter Agencies being the bad guys. That's how it is in reality, and they would be well expected to have been dicks like that if they got their hands in a LOVE MACHINE-kind of AI. I loved the grandma, my far one of the most badass grandma I have ever seen. The fights were interesting, not excruciatingly long, and had a part-for-show-part-for-the-sake-of-the-world feel into it (Nakama Punch and all).
As for the hacking, I am pretty sure there is a Rain Man somewhere who can crack at least 1024-bit encryption in their brain, but I doubt 2048-bit or 2056-bit would be as mentally easy as the movie shows.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?^ Oh, come on, that was Plot Induced Stupidity, Gone Horribly Right and No Delays for the Wicked. If you want to run this sort of AI you don't do it on a site that is supposed to have access to all public admninistrations. That's incredibly stupid. You try it on something you can control. I mean, that's like Aliens Company Agent levels of moronic idiocy. No, wait, it is like F.E.A.R. levels of stupidity. No, more like Prototype levels. Even the morons from {{2001 A Space Odyssey}} weren't that stupid.
'''YOU SEE THIS DOG I'M PETTING? THAT WAS COURAGE WOLF.Cute, isn't he?Well, some of the dialogue with Wabisuke suggestes to me that the TLA had bought the virus from him after he had tested it, and they would obviously have tried it in a well-controlled environment, where obviously nothing can go wrong, before deploying it in the field, for whatever they wanted. Bottom line, TLA's.
And still, it was one thing that I found funny / interesting. I like my movies with politic-social commentary, even if they don't have any.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Trailer for the theatrical release. It may be blocked in other countries though due to Funi's region lock.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar who could drink you under the table~^^ That's not politic-social commentary, that's making up a villain by any means necessary. Let's see, stories where the American TLA's are villains... Bokurano, Naru Taru Spriggan, Blood The Last Vampire, Ghost In The Shell (repeatedly), Black Lagoon ([[Black-and-Black Morality debatable)... Heroman (interestingly enough), Historys Strongest Disciple Kenichi, El Cazador... I'll see if I can think of more...
'''YOU SEE THIS DOG I'M PETTING? THAT WAS COURAGE WOLF.Cute, isn't he?There were TLA villains in Kenichi? I thought all the villains were martial artists?
Fight smart, not fair.Who are allies and contractors of the CIA among others. There is some Right Hand Versus Left Hand going on though, because Ryouzanpaku has that too.
'''YOU SEE THIS DOG I'M PETTING? THAT WAS COURAGE WOLF.Cute, isn't he?How far have you gotten in, I don't want to spoil anything.
Fight smart, not fair.ALL... THE... WAY... UNH!
'''YOU SEE THIS DOG I'M PETTING? THAT WAS COURAGE WOLF.Cute, isn't he?Then you caught the part where the evil martial artist group is planning to turn the world into one where they control everything right?
Fight smart, not fair.Yay! Only two months! I'm SO going to see it!
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Just got back from watching it. It was fun, but my suspension of disbelief is somewhat strained by the idea that not just hundreds of millions of people, but countless government agencies, including ones with cataclysmic power at their disposal, would place their operations on an online utility capable of being hacked with pencil and paper by dozens of mathematicians worldwide.
Also, I could tolerate the United States military being somewhat malicious, but their conduct regarding the whole Love Machine debacle was beyond stupid. It makes Chernobyl level "let's see what happens when we deliberately defy all the safety protocols on a nuclear power plant" stupidity look positively prudent.
...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.Nice job Funi. I didn't think it was possibly to make Kazuma's Viewer Gender Confusion worse but here you go. Are they trying to pull She's a Man in Japan?
Everything else sound goood the voice acting for the characters is solid and I'll probably see it in theatres around break.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.
Has anyone else seen this movie yet? We could use more blanks filled in on the page for it.
