Sonic Colors

Sega announces yet another 3D Sonic Game. This time, they seem to be taking a Lighter and Softer approach.

According to the site, the Wii version will "feature a combination of 2D and 3D." If it's anything like the daytime levels of Sonic Unleashed, I'm in.

Sounds like an interesting idea, but beyond that no one can really say much of anything given that we have literally 12 seconds of a CG trailer to go off of.

*reads, snickers* Okay, this could be amusing.

Colors, huh? Clearly, we need a new powerup item for Sonic. Perhaps a set of seven gems, each one a different color, and when they come together, Sonic can use them for a super mode... I think I need to write this one down.

I must say, the atmosphere they're going for in this game is certainly a breath of fresh air, especially after such melodramatic cripe as Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2006  ^*

Clearly those aliens tap into the power of Chaos.

Looks like they finally learned from Mega Man 9-10 that while a complex, compelling story is great if done right, we don't really care if some things don't have one, and that even a craptastic Excuse Plot is fun if the game is winking at you. Too early to tell if they're doing it right, but with luck at least the older and wiser attitude will stick.

Now watch, it'll turn out the color aliens are the children of Black Doom and they usurp Eggman, get Uzis for some reason, and try to destroy the world. And Amy gets breast cancer and Sonic hooks up with another human chick.

Oh, and I totally thought the topic "Sonic Colors" would be about his eyes and eyelids.

I must say, it looks like Sega is going back to the formula that made Sonic great in the first place. First, there's Sonic 4. Now, this, which looks like it might be a sort of fusion between classic Sonic and Sonic Adventure, only done right. I'll admit to being too lazy to read all the articles posted, but the trailer at least looked promising. I'll have to keep up with this one.

Sounds like a fascinating concept but Why would Eggman need a theme park. They practically had me until I read those words and they kept echoing in the back of my mind.

The good doctor has attempted to conquer the world so many times that nobody would trust any theme park he constructs unless they were stoners.

Also, does anyone else feel somewhat comforted by the concept that Sega decided Knuckles is back doing his job like he should have been a forever ago? Of course I going by the fact they didn't throw Knuckles in with Sonic and Tails, but it's a nice thought.

Eggman already had a Casino Night Zone and a Carnival Night Zone, so why not?

With the possible exception of Sonic and the Secret Rings, it applies to every 3D Sonic game since Shadow the Hedgehog.

The odds are not in this game's favor.

Why would Eggman need a theme park

That's his goal. Robotnikland/Eggmanland has been since ever. I'm assuming the theme park is a front for a particularly flamboyant capitol city/base of operations for when he comes into power, though.

Remember how he built an Eggmanland in Sonic Unleashed? The theme was PAIN.

edit:^ All I have to say on the matter is that I, for one, have not been disappointed by any Sonic game that I have played through to the end. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed Shadow before the Internet made me feel guilty for it.

^No I do not remember because as All Tropers Are Young Nerds, I cannot afford to bu every Sonic game, good or bad, that the market has to offer.

Enlighten me, what was this Eggmanland he built in Sonic Unleashed?

Also, I suppose it makes sense that he would make some theme park version of his future perfect world; makes sense in it's own twisted immature way.

Looks interesting, but I have the strangest feeling I've seen this somewhere before...

Basically it was a huge theme-park level... I suppose the best way to describe it is a cross between a Circus of Fear, Eternal Engine, and Lethal Lava Land. There were death pits and tricky rails everywhere, the whole place was garish and lit up, and there was a statue of Eggman at the entrance taunting Sonic as he went inside.

Sonic basically went "He's having way too much fun with this."

Oh, and it was the hardest level in the entire game.

He's been talking about Robotnikland for a while, but I always assumed it was just the name for his country, considering he switched to "Eggman Empire" in the Adventure series. But he's since gone back to this idea.

Well, they once again are searching for the right direction. I hope they find it this time.

so the yellow color gives him Knuckles' drill dive, and the cyan color gives him his own boost effect that lets him run through the already trivial enemies.

Sonic has enough powers as it is. Boost mode broke it for me when we could see that he wasn't even being slowed down. All I use it for is speedruns in the Rush games.

Did anyone see the Sonic Cycle Cycle image in the Kotaku link?
