Still kind of a dick move.
True, but there are also rumors floating about that GOG's parent company got bought by an unknown private investor. There is only one company in the business with a digital storefront owned by a private investor... Valve.
Basically, assume GOG is dead until further notice.

Wizard Needs Food Badly^DUN DUN DUN!
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelIf so, they're in deep trouble.
They better do a damn big sale with more games or at least explain things or else everyone will go "WTF DID YOU DO THAT FOR"

That's the thing. They could be either closed, out of beta, or getting DRM. No one really knows. All we have is vague statements in Polish. No one speaks Polish!

Wizard Needs Food BadlyNews coming on Wednesday regarding the service. It may be relaunching.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar who could drink you under the table~I hope the relaunch is true... I need more games from GOG, dammit!
Last Defense Line.I have never heard of this website until now, but I am posting that I am surprised no one has mentioned the thread title makes them think of Nietzsche.
And we have killed him.

I'd guess marketing stunt. Killing the site without any warning whatsoever I could've bought. NDA and all that crap. But on a Sunday? Yeah, sure.
Anyway, so what if it is a marketing stunt? I don't see the reason to be pissed about that. This isn't like Steam shutting down and you cannot play your games anymore; whatever you bought from GOG you can still play and whatever you intended to buy from them can wait until this charade is over.
Because playing tricks on your consumers is kind of a dick move?
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaWell, part of it was the customers playing tricks on themselves, since the message said nothing about completely shutting down, just that things weren't going to be able to proceed as they have. And we don't know what that's going to mean. It could be coming back, but with DRM.
That said... It's still horribly off putting, the way they worded it.

One of their biggest selling points was the face that none of their games had any kind of DRM. If they come back, but with DRM, it's likely that pretty much nobody who bought from them before will ever do so again, including myself.

Also, this is a colossal dick move on the owners' part. The guy even writes on some asshole of a forum "Please don't panic after reading the info :)" (referring to GOG.com, smiley included) - I mean, what the fucking fuck, seriously?!

"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWe did ask. All we got was about some vague comment about waiting for Wednesday and some Polish report that they've been bought by a private investor. This doesn't answer what we are waiting until Wednesday for.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyA webconference where their dumbass of a CEO reveals what is he exactly planning to do with GOG. I already posted a strongly-worded warning that players aren't going to take it lightly on the forum where he posted the info about conference.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWhat they had Septerra core? I was looking everywhere for that and now GOG is dead.
Well he's talking about WWII when the Chinese bomb pearl harbor and they commuted suicide by running their planes into the ship.Oh, are you sore about the "No one speaks Polish" thing? That was sarcasm. Even links to Sarcasm Mode.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyAnd bullshit like that is gonna fly left and right until Thursday. And then, everything will be Jossed.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisWhy are we listening to internet rumors? its the most inaccurate thing ever made.
Well he's talking about WWII when the Chinese bomb pearl harbor and they commuted suicide by running their planes into the ship.Because the internet correlates with not only bullshit, but with boredom.

Actually, I think this is GOG's last attempt to try to show exactly why DRM sucks by doing what threatens to happen to every online storefront. That is to say, shutting down without the ability to get back your games. Note the wording of their messages, its meaning could be seen as commenting on how publishers want DRM and how GOG can't survive as a DRM-free service because of that. By shutting itself down, GOG shows why a DRM based service can't work and why GOG's can.
