I'm a bit confused by this page. On one hand it's an index of every trope related to hair colors,, but on the other hand the lenghty description the page talks only about hair colors in Anime. In that case, shouldn't it be called Anime Hair Colors and the index moved to something more general? I have nothing agaisnt a page about hair colors and their signification in Anime, I think we do need one, but this page seems to merge two page ( one about hair color tropes in general and one about hair color in Anime) in a single one.

A lot - but by no means all - of the hair color tropes come from anime.

I'd say this page needs some serious cleaning.

I agree that a lot of hair color tropes comes from A Nime, but a lot of them also have extensive list of examples from other media. My main problem is that the entire description of this page is an in-depth discussion of hair colors in Anime, complete with Anime examples (only exception being Superman) and discussion about Anime vs Manga. It's not a bad discussion in any mean,s but it probably belong elsewhere. The trope is name Hair Colors, and as such sould be more general.

I was actually agreeing with you. Stuff about how hair color affects how we perceive a character: Good.

Long explanation of each and every anime interpretation of this? Bad.

After looking at the page- that is sure a lot of text.

A lot of it is semi-useful though in explaining the symbolic nature of hair colors in Anime and Japanese society.

After looking at it I think the best thing to do would be to move the current trope description to a Useful Notes page about Hair Color In Japan.

Then have the Hair Colors Trope be about all use of hair colors. With a short paragraph about how Western media tends to use Blonde, Brunette, and Redhead. Then have a short paragraph point out that these hair colors can be seen differently in Eastern media- give the example of blonde hair being associated with delinquents in Japan. Then have a paragraph about hair colors in Animation, that Western Animation usually tends to stick to more natural hair colors (with some slight variation- such as dark blue for black, ect). While Japanese animation is known for the widespread use of unnatural colors. ie You Gotta Have Blue Hair.

Then list all the subtropes dealing with hair colors.

In fact I think I'll just go ahead and get started on that.

Tnak you! I would do it, but if you know exactly what needs to be done, it,s better if you do it. Don,t be afraid to come back here if you need help. I'll lend a hand!

Okay.

Created the Useful Notes page and moved the current description there.

Now I'll try to write up the new description and then we can discuss it here. Once we get a final description we like we can post it up and replace the current description of Hair Colors.

Hair Color is one of the most easily identifiable traits of an individual. The color and style of a persons hair is one of the first things the brain uses to identify who we are seeing. (This is why we tend to confuse people who have similar hair styles and color). Because of this hair color is often used in media to distinguish different characters. Over time specific hair colors have gained associated symbolism.

In Western media female blond characters have two major symbolic associations, Hair of Gold and Dumb Blonde. Brunettes are Brainy. Fiery Redheads are Hot-Blooded. There are some others too. Tall, Dark, and Handsome tend to be preferred as leading men. Blond Guys Are Evil. Some of these are rarer than others, and none are a hard and fast rule.

In Eastern media hair colors are usually treated differently than in the West. This is simply because there are not many blonds or redheads in Asia. For example, in Japan, blonde hair is associated with delinquents, because Japanese delinquents tend to dye their hair blonde.

The increasing global nature of media is causing Western and Eastern tropes about hair colors to mix. For example, Fiery Redhead was a Western trope, but it is now used in Japanese Anime. This might be because it already fit with other Eastern tropes such as Red Oni, Blue Oni.

Animation provides even more options then the typical shades of blonde, red, and shades of brown and black. Western Animation has usually stuck to more natural colors. Occasionally using slight variations that work better in the medium. Such as using dark blue or purple to highlight black hair, or using light blue instead of gray. Japanese Animation however has decided to use a far greater variety of hair color than can be explained by nature. After all, You Gotta Have Blue Hair. For a further discussion of Japanese Anime and Hair colors see Hair Color in Japan.

Did a few minor corrections, nothing big, just added a few comas, apostrophes, things like that. It's good to go.———

Okay, I think I got most of your edits. (I cut and pasted mine since that preserved the pothole links.)

If you could give it another look over that would be great.

We should probably also get a new page quote and maybe start an Image Picking thread to find a better image. But I have to start getting ready for work now, so I'll leave that to you guys.

PS: Oh, and I noticed that a few of the hair tropes have not been added yet. Tall, Dark, and Handsome and Tall, Dark and Bishoujo for example.

The Image Picking thread has been started. For the quote, I,m fine with leaving it quoteless. It's mostly a index page, so a quote is pretty much unnecessary, unless we find something very adequate about how hair color is a window to the soul or something like tht. Anyone has suggestion.

Ok, could someone lock this one up, I'm gonna start a thread for the quote with a better title so as not to confuse people. Thanks!
