Pokémon anime

The thing about customization is that you also see a minimization of the protagonist's backstory. At best, a new kid moving into town with mother with no name.

Yeah, think about it. When was the last time you heard your character's mother's name in a Pokemon game?

Grace from XY. Then you have Johanna from DP. And while mom was unnamed in RS, they did give a name to your father, Norman.

And guess who were the female player protagonists that got adapted into the anime?

... Most moms went unnamed didn't they?

Yes, only two out of 9 moms were named: the moms in DP and in XY

As much as we like to joke about Ash as a dumb protagonist I gotta say he has a personality.

Red being the strong silent type in the games is fine because honestly his character is all over place. Like in Origins/Adventures where he's the loud hotblooded hero.

While the other player characters by the time of SM are so dead eyed it becomes an in series joke in Pokemon Master's EX.

The customization aspect just makes me immediately change the male character to look like me so I just see them as a blank canvas rather than actual characters. Cant even remember there names half the time.

Heck the only reason I know the female protagonists names is because they are marketed more in the anime, merchandise or mobile games.

Sun/Moon's protagonists having a constant :) face keeps making me laugh.

..and tomorrow starts a Masters Eight Tie-in event in Masters.

So, before this tie-in event was announced, I was thinking that the tie-in would have been Ash traveling through other dimensions as a result of his eventual victory, i.e. what other frontiers has he yet to conquer? Lo and behold, he goes to Pasio for training.

Personally, I'd like a follow-up on this plot with the other longrunning adaptations: fooling around with Isamu & his Clefairy and then fighting alongside the Dexholders against Team Rainbow Rocket (adding Rose and maybe the Gen IX villain). And for those wondering about an apparent inconsistency... TRR would be led either by USUM Giovanni, Masters Giovanni, Ash's Giovanni, or the one from Izamu's dimension; Spe!Giovanni would fill Guzma's role..

Yeah, it's Farfetch'd. So I'll probably post that (or something similar) in a more appropriate thread.

But, now that I think about it, the Masters Eight as a Super Team against Giovanni, Charon, Ghetsis, Xerosic, maybe Rose, and the Gen IX villain as the Anime's version of Team Rainbow Rocket could be a nice B-Plot to the A-Plot that would be Gary & Goh's exploration of Poke!Iberia.

So I noticed the anniversary outfit for Pokémon Go is the same ones Gou wears in that magazine art with him, Ash, and Gary where they hold flowers. Now with a female version of it.

Minor thing, but I hope Iris uses Excadrill in her battle against Cynthia. It's her literal starter, and her not using it against Ash was weird enough, but it also didn't appear in the episode when Emolga did.

But considering Alain debuted two new Pokemon we've never seen him use before, I wouldn't be surprised if Iris has an Altaria or something.

It's kind of ironic that since Iris will probably stick around for the whole tournament arc even after her battle, she'll wind up having the most cameo eps of any former female companion this series. Even if it's just to watch from the sidelines, Iris got good treatment. Probably some sense of irony Iris will be around longer than anyone else. Dawn technically has 8-9 eps this series if you count the Arceus specials.

I'm still irrationally annoyed Ash didn't get to avenge his loss. They should've had HIM face Alain and let Leon beat this Steven character, whoever he is (I legit don't know. I watched the first few seasons if that, then got back into it with Sun and Moon).

Steven was also in X and Y's anime, he appeared there more than he did in Hoenn, even.

He was only in a single episode of Hoenn and showed up in XY.

Given the fact you never even heard of him, I'm assuming you never played any of the games.

I played Pokemon Yellow for, like, a little bit, but yeah, that's basically correct.

New episode diantha won. Also we got cameos of the trio from the raikou special and Ritchie. So next episode expect unova cameos

And, not surprised given type matchups. Lance also has a Hydreigon.

It looks like the episode after the initial matchups will be a breather with Chloe and an Eevee.

she won with a moon blast from mega gardevoir after waiting out dynamax dragonite. Also we saw Trevor, tierno, Shauna, and the treeko kid from xy ash beat in the semi finals together watching diantha wib.

Yes, then Ash vs Steven.

Treecko kid's dub name is Sawyer.

So we might also get Cynthia vs Diantha?

I mean, I don't think Iris will beat Cynthia, and she already fought Ash so....

But wow. After we were all talking about how Diantha is a massive memetic loser, they go and have her actually beat Lance.

Needless to say, a lot of us have egg on our faces.

I do have to give the writers credit for sticking to the games. Logically Diantha should be the winner of this battle, but because Lance is the Gen 1 champion, I was half expecting them to BS up something to let him win despite the major disadvantage.

Gen 2 Champion, and he already lost to Leon. Plus this might be a bigger deal if how much type matchups matters were consistent.

How’s the reception, because this could either improve Diantha’s rep or hurt Lance’s.
