I read an interesting theory that Goh's bond with Mew is how he's able to keep catching Pokemon in regular Poke Balls.

The most dated aspect of DP now is (IMO), Brock still being there at his stalest and Team Rocket still being in every episode. From BW onward TR actually miss episodes since the writers realized they didn't have to appear every single ep, and of course by DP Brock's character had completely run dry, and basically had no real reason to be around anymore.

A lot of Hoenn and DP still suffer from the TR formula in most episodes, since they were in every single ep back then, but if you can deal with that it's fine. But they were part of the "old formula" of the anime that basically started from the beginning till the end of DP at that point, so if you grew up with you'd be used to it.

As for AG in general, it's humor is probably the closest to the OS of any of the following series, and May's character is actually one of the funniest female companions next to Kanto(!) era Misty, so there's that. May's entire character and Contest arc was based around humor/comedy and shoujo plots with Drew/Harley, whereas the writers tend to go with the more drama approach with Dawn and Serena/Lillie to an extent treating their pitfalls with more seriousness. But Pokemon works best when it's a comedy as seen with Season 1, so I actually prefer how they did it the first time around.

Pokemon Hunter J vs Brandon...damn she and Paul really needed to have a fight.

Maybe, for reasons that Rob had stated. But, for my part, I would rather have Paul vs Gary. Either Gary would prove Paul to be just a poser, with an added dose of "The Reason You Suck" basically nullifying the accusations of Paul being a Creator's Pet being the start of Paul's path to righteousness, note  or Paul would justify the hype by usurping the title of The Rival from Ash's first one.

The Best Female Pokegirl Tournament Arc....Sinnoh's Grand Festial

Technically true. But having Dawn face off against both Jessie and Ursula while Zoey got Nando soured it a bit as both of Dawn's pre-finals opponents were more recent. And, of course, there was the Sinnoan tendency to decide all (onscreen) Contest Battles by Knockout. Also, apply what I said about Paul and Gary to Ursula and Zoey.note  Given that, I'd say that the Kanto GF could be a serious challenger for that title, as it resolved May's rivalries with Harley and Drewnote .

I'd also consider the Sinnoh GF to be the start of the Unovan Dork Age,note  with the Galactic Climax being the end of the Anime's Silver Age that started in early Hoenn. Granted, the equivalent to The Silver Age of Comic Books was Kalos which would be the Anime's Copper Age preceding the Alola-Journey's Bronze, as exemplified by Precita's summation above.

Kinda blows my mind DP ended an entire decade ago in 2010, and AG is almost 20 years old now. Even BW is 10 years old now. I always forget there's entire generation of kids who grew up with these as their first sagas, I see them on twitter often because if they're only 18-22 now...that means they were like 2 years old when Hoenn started or 6 during DP...lol.

So I was just sitting around, being Handsome Rob, when I had the most random thought:

Cressalia has only appeared in the anime once, hasn't it?

That old Diamond and Pearl episode where it fought against Darkrai (who got a movie appearance as well).

Whereas most Legendaries got movies about them, or more recently episode arcs, Cressalia had a single moment in one episode, and then just kinda got chucked out.

[up][up][up][up]True, but I think we can all agree Dawn vs Zoey was far better of a climax than May vs Solidad.

Yeah Cresselia never appeared in any of the DP movies, or any ones after if I'm remember right.

As for the Contests, May/Drew was the true finale of her arc. Solidad was just the usual late league rival to prevent the main character from winning a tournament. With Dawn we never got to see her beat Zoey even once for the entire span of DP, so while it was a good battle, it does have some of the wind taken out of it when you watch DP for 4 years with the knowledge that Dawn never actually beats Zoey.

It's probably the only rivalry in the series where the main character doesn't beat their rival at the end.

And to make matters worse Cresselia was captured by Team Rocket. With an ordinary net.

Heatran was used by the main antagonist of the Arceus movie. That sort of role is already too big to call a cameo; remember that a cameo is defined as:

A brief appearance by a well-known star or other famous person in a role that would otherwise be an extra or walk-on. Most often used today as a surprise or punchline of sorts.

Wonder how he got a heatran ?

That seems pretty big to have a legendary pokemon as one of yours ?

We saw a random one during the League so maybe it's not a big deal anime-wise.

We've seen multiple Lugia before as well. But, yeah, it's not as though you had Pokeballs back then. Which kind of makes the feat even more impressive

But, yeah, Cresselia only got 1 episode dedicated to her in-game sideplot. So, other than Yevetal, what other Legendaries got similarly shafted?

Also:

[Dawn vs Zoey is] probably the only rivalry in the series where the main character doesn't beat their rival at the end.

*cough*Alain*cough*note

And on that note, here's my Potholer Random Thought for this past week.

You know that "Surprised Satoshi" that happened when Ash finally won?

I'm wondering if that was actually the second instance (or even more)...

Again, note his mannerisms, and also account for the Art Style and the Camera angle.

Now, I present a possible prior instance. Granted, Ash is already listed under Post-Kiss Catatonia for similar instances, so we'll have to check in to see if those instances also had the "Surprised Satoshi" reaction... The kisses from Team Rocket and Melody weren't captured by Serebii, and the kiss from the 5th movie only shows the close up, though the right eye is in the right place...

Tbf both the anime and even the games indicate that theirs more then one of a legendary pokemon barring titans like say Arceus. It seems to be that their are very few though.

Depends on the legendary but Heatran specifically is said to live in volcanic caves which implies to me that there are multiple ones and so while they're probably rare they probably aren't a big deal.

Yeah, I think it depends on the legendary (and I suppose it doesn't help that the anime sometimes establishes multiples of legendaries that the games don't).

Like, there's definitely more than one of the Legendary Birds. But the Regis are supposed to be singular.

So, is there anything you guys liked about the Pokemon Black and White anime? I want to make a longer post but of one my keyboard alphabet letters isn't workin_ that well so I'll keep it brief:

  • Ash's team is underrated and half of them are solid while the other half get at least some development or valid moments (I mean Paliptoad's considered the worst but has a 3-2-1 win/record). The huge number meant you could never expect who Ash was going to bring out.
  • Iris arguably had a better story in her goal than Misty. Cilan was pretty fun, it's just his Stunfisk that bothered me.
  • All the gym battles had something memorable about them....hell Elesa vs Ash was made overhated. Watching Pikachu regained his confidence and soloing both of Elesa's team members was dope
  • Team Rocket were competent but still had humorous moments and a solid team. There was a shift, but their personality change wasn't all black and white like people made it out to be, just their threat level felt more like what they could be.
  • I don't hate the rivals. Trip was smart but always focused on strategy and just a straightforward power to victory and he got decent development, Bianca was funny and her growing more confident was pretty decent. I didn't get the hate towards Stephan: good team, likeable friendly rival, competent, and had the best battle in the league. I'd throw Shamus in there but besides being the person that threw Tepig away, he at least contributed to Pignite's debut, it's a shame he wasn't used more. Bergundy and georgia at least gave something for Cilan and Iris and were funny enough and interesting. Honestly they're all at the best when they're interacting with each other. The main problem between them all is between Trip, Bianca, Cameron (if he didn't win against Ash I wouldn't mind him) and Vergil (who i did like, i'm just mad he didn't battle Ash), they lacked a solid endgame and satisfying conclusion for their roles in their story, especially in the League.
  • It was nice to see Dawn again, the Melotta and Meowth arc was pretty good.

Overall besides the Team Plasma stuff that needed to be cut out, episode N needing more adjustments, making the league longer and putting time for the delocore islands so moments where Oshawatt and Pignite had cool moments after Plasma were put towards the League, and altered a few things here and there, it wouldn't be as hated as it is, but I definitely feel some of the hate is overblown.

Cilan was pretty fun, it's just his Stunfisk that bothered me.

What was wrong with Stunfisk?

Team Rocket were competent but still had humorous moments and a solid team. There was a shift, but their personality change wasn't all black and white like people made it out to be, just their threat level felt more like what they could be.

It's possible that for many the shift came off as too hard. Team Rocket had been completely incompetent but Loveable Losers for a decade. Maybe it felt like with them being in less episodes, and being more dangerous when they were, people felt they were too different and missed the ways in which they hadn't changed at all, causing the writers to hard turn back towards their original characterization.

Being better than Misty isn't a high bar, and even then that requires you to specify "which" Misty.

[up][up][up]I liked Cilan's character as a whole and I also liked Ash's Krookodile for its Adorkable personality.

What I didn't like was Ash somehow losing some of his his past experiences with battling and Skyla somehow becoming more of a jerk in her episode.

I think Unova Team Rocket wasn't bad, but the new outfits, every single Pokemon they owned getting benched, and no Meowth balloon all in conjunction made them hard to swallow. If they were competent and any of the old stuff was there it would have been easier to swallow.

[up]x5: Honestly, the only thing I liked about that anime timeframe is the arc where they hang around Cynthia's villa. She is my favorite recurring character in the anime; while Ash's idiocy and immaturity is mostly absent (presumably he was saving it up for his embarrassing showing in the league conference).
