Sidian, you're either Younger Than You Look, or too damned old to be a student.[lol]

Huh. I just realized. Liko, Roy and Dot can easily split the three plot lines of Scarlet and Violet between them. Not sure who among them would do the gym challenge, but I guess that goes to Liko by default, as Roy seems more suited towards the Path of Legends considering his desire to fight Rayquaza, and I'm betting Penny will reach out to Dot since Dot kinda seems similar to her.

It's a great way to incorporate the storylines of the actual games into this new series.

And now I'm betting that Rakua is Area Zero.

A quick little question regarding the Character Page for Pokémon Horizons...

Given the recent events of this episode, should Dot be moved up to protagonist status alongside Liko and Roy?

There's usually a trio, and since she owns a starter, I say she should.

Well, opening the video with a reference to Hot Skitty-on-Wailord Action was not what I was expecting from Scott's playthrough today.

This is a Let's Player for Pokemon games who often plays an entire game with just one particular Pokemon as a form of Self-Imposed Challenge, apparently. They seem interesting.

Alright. Watched the latest episode.

Floragato got a nice debut, Dot truly takes her place as the Tritagonist of the story, Amethio parts ways with the group on a rather peaceful note (even teaming up with Friede to try and fight Rayquaza) while also attaining Terastalization, and now the anime writers finally care about the plot of the games.

Nothing we didn't know, but seeing it go down was good.

After seeing Rika appear in a trailer, I checked to see who was voicing her. I'm not too surprised to see it's Mitsuki Saiga; Rika is totally the sort of character she'd end up voicing.

So. This feels like a topic that's been broached before, but did it seem like Ash's fire and Grass type Pokemon (especially the starters) always got more emphasis than his water types.

At least up until Froaky/Frogadier/Greninja.

Like, it was less obvious in Kanto, since Squirtle had the whole squirtle squad deal, and all his Johto starters were kinda nothing even when they got focus (and Bayleaf was the only one who evolved during the saga, since Cyndaquil didn't do so until years later in Sinnoh), but he didn't get Mudkip at all in Hoenn (it being pawned off to Brock), and also missed out on Piplup (who went to Dawn, but also didn't evolve, though it was essentially a second mascot).

He also didn't evolve his Oshawott or Snivy, but did evolve Tepig, but only once, but Best Wishes was kinda a mess anyway.

It's not until X and Y and that he seriously trained a Water Type in Froaky. When he went to Alola, he once again opted out on the Water Starter (in fact this team had no water type, but that might be due to Lana basically covering that niche) and only evolved Litten (They gave freaking Rowlet an everstone to keep it from evolving).

Galar is an exception, since it's the region where Ash doesn't have a single starter, instead letting Goh have them all. It's also when he finally wins a league.

Almost comes off as a slight towards Galar, but that might be a stretch.

So yeah. Does it seem like there's a weird thing against Ash's Water Type Starters, or is it just me?

Too bad Charmander wasn't his first pick, but the fact that he and Gary went for the same Pokemon is hilarious.

And now I'm jumping back to an old topic.

I asked a page back what kind of Balloon the Brave Olivine is, and while apparently determined it's likely using helium.

But then it dawned on me, that it's possible it's Hydrogen. The latter is much more flammable, but it's also much easier to produce than Helium, and a better lighter than air gas than Helium.

It also dawned on me that the Pokemon world might have methods to mitigate the risks of using Hydrogen for Lighter Than Air aircrafts that the real world hasn't fully implemented yet (we can make it more safe, but there's still the risk of igniting).

As for Ash and Gary both wanting Squirtle as their starters....I'm now convinced Gary knew this and that's why he chose Squirtle.

Smell ya later.

Given what I remember of the episode and taking into account the kinda guy Ash is, it wouldn't surprise if he didn't decide who he'd pick as a starter until the literal last minute.

One thing I've seen people pointing out about the last episode; the Black Rayquaza knows Dragon Ascent, the move it needs to have to Mega Evolve. The fact that it can Mega Evolve by game rules might come into play later.

A thing to probably note, even when Ash didn't own every starter in every region, he still made some effort to include Pokemon of the same types as the starters, such as catching Corphish and Torkoal in Hoenn (though he did not bring Torkoal onto his Battle Frontier team, sadly) to make up for not having Mudkip or Torchic, and the Buizel trade in Sinnoh making up for his lack of Piplup. With later regions, he started to stray from this practice more heavily, as while Talonflame would make up for him not having Fennekin, he never caught a Grass type in Kalos, and as mentioned, he had no Water type in Alola. At least with his Journeys team, while he had no Grass or Fire types, Dracovish was a Water type.

It's funny to think about Ash met a black/shiny Rayquaza in the Hoopa movie, but nobody thinks about it because the XY movies were quite frankly, rather forgettable. This movie came out back in 2015. The shiny Rayquaza is a plot point of Horizons but Ash met and battles alongside one 10 years ago.

Granted we don't know if Horizons is the same continuity as Ash's series, but it'd be funny if it were the same one.

The X and Y movies do seem to be where the movies bombed so hard they gave up on regional movies and started doing the alternate universe Ash movies.

It sucks that the Alola cast never got to be in any movies. And Galar barely showed up in it's own season.

YMMV.Pokemon To Be A Pokemon Master:

  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Team Rocket's final resolution is treated as a happy ending despite the fact it's a cementation of their vicious cycle: Even though their latest failed attempt nearly disbanded the trio permanently, they reconcile and conclude that pursuing Pikachu, the Signature Mon of the World Coronation Series Monarch, is worth spending the rest of their lives for despite 25 years of being offered better life opportunities outside of that impossible goal (and outside of evil in general). While Ash leaves the series as the World Champion seeking out new adventures to better than before, the Team Rocket trio leave unchanged as people and reduced to mere annoyances that barely get Ash's attention anymore.

I removed this per ATT as villains getting an unhappy fate due to their flaws is not unintentionally unhappy. Since then it got a reply arguing it was supposed to be happy as they were happy about their ending.

My impression was that they were portrayed as wrong to be happy about it insorfar as it caused them to continue their futile villainy over it. Thoughts on the matter?

It's pretty much a Sunk Cost Fallacy, combined with what I perceive to be a desire to placate the TRio's fans, who gave overwhelmingly negative reviews to the anime the last time they tried to write the trio out. That is, although under the right circumstances it could work, the writers might be too afraid of such a massive backlash to allow it to occur, so they have to keep them this way. Along with them being at it so long that they have to keep going.

What often tends to be brought up as well is that although Ash logically has no real reason to want to dismantle the organization itself, it also leads to the perception of the entirety of Team Rocket being a Karma Houdini since Ash never tries to have a final battle with them.

The way I saw it, the TRio's "bad ending" (at least as framed by the finale) was being split up, stuck working low-end jobs at Team Rocket's cafeteria without the other two by their sides. Their "happy ending" was reuniting so they could go back to chasing Pikachu, to the point where they're even happy with their own endless failure since it'll always gives them something to strive for.

It essentially mirrors Ash's Pokemon Master goal in how they can all forever chase after an endless dream. Hence why I feel it qualifies for Esoteric Happy Ending, as fans can clearly see through how futile Team Rocket's position really is, and they've always been Ineffectual Sympathetic Villains that would be much happier quitting the organization altogether.
