During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread@43110: I did forget; it was not an intentional choice. If you’ve been following me on this thread at all, you would know that I can’t communicate worth a damn. Basically the only reason this thread didn’t devolve into an argument about stereotypes off of a poorly-made point I tried to make is because TV Tropes doesn’t allow that sort of thing. Besides, it was literally the middle of the night, when I’m least articulate.
Check out my current fanfiction project. For Collins, after watching the scene, I'm inclined to say keep him; he says the "I should have listened to Deveraux" line in a very matter-of-fact tone, and he just looks mildly shocked at most when he hears that Deveraux died.
Where is the link to the page?
EP template is in the header.

Feels good, don't it?Could you link to the chapters in question where this comes up and explain a bit more why you don't view it as mitigating.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."The Work: Joker's Wild, a Teen Titans fanfic
Who: The Joker. Before this fic happened, he crippled Barbara and murdered Jason Todd. In the very first chapter, he kills a live TV audience of 100 people to announce his arrival into Jump City. Then, his obsession with Robin drives him to kill many of the Titans' rogues gallery because he wants to be the only one killing Robin. After kidnapping Beast Boy, the Joker tortured him, claiming to test the limits of Beast Boy's healing. Once the Joker has had it with Jump City, he decides to build a nuke and blow up Jump City for a big finale. Once his nuclear bomb is disarmed, The Clown Prince of Crime sends Robin the video of him torturing Beast Boy as one last laugh before returning to Arkham.

Not enough info and you need to provide a link to the fanfic.
Not sure about the Joker here. I read part of the fanfic (so I could've missed something) and I recall Word of God stating that he genuinely loves Harley Quinn, even though it isn't portrayed as a good thing for her.
Plus I wanted to showcase a fact that SHOULD be obvious from the comics but that a lot of writers overlook. Harley Quinn is funny, Harley Quinn is angsty, Harley Quinn is even kinda hot. But she's also dangerous; a psychopath who shows little to no remorse."

Feels good, don't it?From the fic:
"It turns out that she, like me, was much older than she looked. She had been raised in a small village, and from a very early age she was an apprentice to the only alchemist in the village. At first, she and the alchemist had been revered and respected, but that all changed when a plague hit the town. The people who died seemed random, except that they always seemed to have been near some object or place where alchemy had occurred. The villagers accused the alchemist of cursing them, and ended up killing him. Dante was distraught over his death, but she was also cunning. She knew it was only a matter of time before the disease killed everyone, including herself, so she devised a plan to save herself. The villagers were angry at her as well, but as more and more people fell to the disease, they became desperate. So when Dante told them she had a plan that would save everyone, they agreed to follow her. After that, she made a large transmutation circle in the town square and told everyone to stand inside. She then activated the circle and turned all of them into a philosopher's stone."
Cut.
Following you? I don't pay attention to your post history or patterns. From the way you worded your response to me you seemed to be saying, "Yeah, it's a thing but I don't think it really matters."

Cut Dante.
Especially since they stats the only reason she avenged him is because she cared about him.

It looks like the ‘’Person of Interest’’ quote for Alex Declan is linked to the wrong episode; Proteus is Season 2, Episode 17, not 19. And it’s also smaller than the other quotes around it.
