During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Nurarihyon
@acw: Please Put me down for a rewrite of Lord Raith, Corps etaker and Shagnasty from the Dresden files. Kulkucan is fine as is but I want to clean up there entries. Raith also needs a bit of a truncatetion while Shagnasty and Corpsetaker could do with an expansion. Lighty gave me the go ahead for it.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."@Elfen: Go for it, I'm curious.
I'll probably do it later as I need to finish some business to do especially with a game that I've been meaning to look into for some time. And it's called Shining Resonance. Although is it fine for you guys if I ask some question pertaining with the candidates in question after I finish the game?
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."@Awesomekid 42 100 % agree, especially with Cioccolata, who's easily one of the most memorably awful minor villains in the history of fiction. Can't wait to see him in action in Part 5 anime, he was already a very disturbing character in the manga. But I probably have to wait until following May or so. Hopefully his episode has some good images for the CM page, as the current one with Angelo makes little sense out of context.

to Nurarihyon.
Worst minor villain? I'll go for the Pied Piper. Mass murdering Psycho for Hire turned century-spanning serial child killer extraordinaire. I might have to tweak their write up.
Well one of my recent proposals the pirate captain who appears in four pages (and not even in all the panels) and speaks in one.
Mir: I'll just add The Dresden Files rewrites.
I'm leaning yes to Nura, but these give me some pause:
- Big Bad: Nurarihyon is the closest the series has to one. His ideals could've qualified him for a position as the Big Good if it wasn't for his morally objectionable methods.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Nurarihyon is willing to go to pretty extreme lengths to maintain order for the sake of the future.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsOh. Another good CM minor villain was Eduardo Flamingo
Things are really about to get Fun around hereNurahiyon.
This is an odd question, but is there C.M that you really find enjoyable and you really like them?
I've got a few like Hades in Kid Icarus Uprising, Joker from the animated movies/TV Show, Scythe Master from Phantom of Inferno, Sir Isaac Westicott of Date a Live, and Dr. Facilier from Princess and the Frog. Oh, can't forget Ulith from Selector Spread/Infected Wixoss, and Blofield, from James Bond.
"Are you the devil?" "Don't compare to me to those small fry" - Mir@Newton Most entertaining CM? Jack Dante for me I guess. Or any of thr female C Ms I saw.

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I feel like we should just make a sandbox page listing everyone's favorite and hateable CMs. I've seen this question get asked about eight times now.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Pretty good idea, would also show what type of work the user typically checks.
"Are you the devil?" "Don't compare to me to those small fry" - Mir@Tyk Yeah, sounds like a good idea. Here's your medal my man That's why I made a list for C Ms with Freudian Excuse. I have no intentions to fuel the Never Again list even though said actions would ended up fueling them but even then, given that there are question that got applied to me outside of this website and the question in this website, yeah... That's why I'm tempting to make a to-do list of it.

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I remind that this thread exists for the random questions about C Ms.
Regarding Nurarihyon: There's nothing 'well intentioned' about him. He believes in bringing in the 'future,' but it's one where he and the Yokai are in full control, with no regard for countless lives. I don't think any benevolent intentions are ever ascribed to him
I hate to ask this question but... I forgot what's the baseline standard for a generic Evil Mad Scientist?
Also, I think I'm cool if we purge those tropes from Nura or replace it with something different.

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I think Visionary Villain would work better for Nyrahian's wanting to bring in the future thing.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Give me a yes for Nurarihyon.
Or Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist.
Somewhat of a case-by-case thing.
True; and that can be REALLY annoying, especially when those who don't know the work (like myself in this case) see them.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI think we can surmise that Alternative Character Interpretation, Draco in Leather Pants, etc. can make their ways into the undertones of the 'objective' tropes on the character/work sheets.
Is everyone fine with me making a sandbox To-Do List page for CMs and a Favorite and Detestable CM sandbox page? The former for the sake of not jumbling both the write-ups and everyone's To-Do list together; getting a little cluttered. The latter because multiple people keep asking about it, and some of us have already answered the question multiple times hundreds of pages ago that I doubt we all feel like digging through just to re-answer a question already answered.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.@Tyk Mmmmm.... You don't have a bad idea I suppose. But the thing is, where should you link it?
"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."C already has a list of tropers favorite cms.
Edited by Silverblade2 on Nov 15th 2018 at 5:32:14 PM
Oh. Well I'll just link to that whenever anyone asks again, unless others do want a sandbox page. Still thinking about a To-Do List page though.
I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Edit: Never mind then. I answered my own question. Again.
