This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

~crazysamaritan: Thank you for your reply. And sorry for the delayed answer. I didn't get a message telling me I got a reply so I guess I will have to check this post from now on. How will my edits be addressed? Do I have to address them? If so, how? I'd like to solve this conflict and amend for my mistake as soon as possible. If not, then I'd like to know what's the proper conduct. Should I wait until I receive a message telling me my suspension is over or do I have to do something else? Thank you for your time.

I decided to take a month-long break to get away from all the ruckus I caused, only to find myself suspended when I got back. I think I understand the reason(s) why I got suspended, but I still would like a reminder in case my reasoning(s) is/are incorrect. Also - and this should go without saying - I'd like to appeal.

~Boobiesgalore: Greetings. Your grammar is not up to the standard we expect on the wiki and you keep adding examples that do not explain how or why they apply.

We have a grammar help thread here. Also, some of my colleagues wonder if the breast-focussed username you have is really necessary.

~n3xus: Well, all what I want is that when someone asks you to do an edit on their behalf, you practice some diligence by checking if they might be suspended (look for their name in Ask The Tropers, this thread, PM a moderator...) and asking them why they don't make the edit themselves.

Imma lift the suspension. Once you have split/moved Sandbox3.n3xus, post about it in the Locked Pages thread, please.

~JHD: OK, let's take this; what do you think are the reasons you were suspended?

Hello, I was banned from OTC in July of 2018. It's been nearly three years and I was just curious if my ban from the forum could be lifted?

I can work on my grammar, but can I have an example of a Zero-context Example I added so I can do things differently from now on?

Also, while I will admit that my username was randomly thought up and mostly a joke when I made the account, I don’t see why it would have added to my suspension. Is there a standard for what usernames Tropers are allowed to have?

Sorry if it's a bother but... how long will it last? I believe I have learned my lesson:

Don't make a work page without providing at least 3 good examples of tropes.

Is there something I missed? Maybe it's because I made/Application.

Again, sorry of it's a bother, I imagine it's stressful

1) I was extremely hasty. I failed to recognize that large projects such as wick checks take time, and I tried forcing other tropers to hurry it up so that they could get them done faster. Saying they were unimpressed would be an understatement.

2) I forced much of my work onto others. Projects that I was expected to work on myself, I instead laid on others, and it irritated them to no end.

3) I wanted my voice heard. Badly. I expected responses to my forum posts immediately, and when I didn't get some, I would whine about it. Needless to say, this backfired horribly.

4) I failed to understand that I shouldn't hang around threads if I wasn't going to contribute to what they were about. This is what led me to take the aforementioned break.

5) I had a tendency to get frustrated on occasion. For example, I started an argument with several tropers in an ATT thread simply because I didn't understand what they were saying.

6) Finally, I was overwhelmed by the amount of things going on at one time, and it messed with my head a lot.

~Nikkolas: I admit, I am surprised that you are asking for an OTC unsuspension right after you went to the Lindsay Ellis thread and made an offtopic mess in it. So no, we are not going to lift the suspension, and it will probably be extended to the entire forum if something like the Lindsay Ellis incident happens again.

~Boobiesgalore: On Music.Gwen Stefani, you added:

What is "this", can you mention some of the songs?

~Adembergz: That's it, but I see that while suspended you also attempted to launch this TLP without asking anyone. Why are you trying to launch a TLP - against the guidelines, to boot - when you are suspended?
~JHD: Yeah, that's mostly the size of it. I'll see if ~Willbyr is persuaded by your appeal.
~n3xus: Lifted the suspension for real, now.
~newtvtropesuser: Er, lack of summaries wasn't the main problem with your edits. Lakc of proper grammar and formatting (such as violations of alphabetic ordering and of the Example Indentation in Trope Lists rules) were.
~Zerostylinx: Only if you address the suspension reason here.

I'm willing to admit that I am at fault for doing edits for his behalf. But I never thought that it was wrong to edit when he is suspended, including the fact that he was able to send edits. At that point, I thought that he wasn't a banned user, since he can still send messages and all. In fact, he provided the Complete Monster section through forum suggestion on Ultraman Dyna and the Magnificent Bastard section of Ultraman Z, so I thought that his suspension wasn't a real deal.

Ok... so uh, if I got this correctly my mistakes in order are:

Lack of tropes in the works I put

Attempting to make a new form of media (Application [although it should be made])

Attempting to launch a trope while i was suspended (to be fair I didn't know)

Anything else I missed? Please let me know

Ok. Now I understand what I did wrong. Whenever I put in a trope I must give an example and/or explain why it’s put in. So can I ask for a repeal.

~WDS

have you taken a closer look at the Star Wars edits?
Yes, my post was after examining a few of the examples in detail. This is not about specific edits, but the general trend. Recording "after announcement of X, fans felt Y" does not become outdated, even when the fans reverse their opinion at a later date. Ruined FOREVER is not an objective statement about a work, it is an audience reaction, which can be mercurial and differ by location at the best of times. That's why the article is in the Darth namespace, which has a banner saying "Please keep these off of the work's page" instead of "Examples can go on the work's YMMV tab." That's why you shouldn't be adding wicks to it in places like YMMV.Magic The Gathering.
You also keep avoiding the mention of the stub page. Your edits had a number of problems, not just Natter. We are cleaning up many things from the wiki's decade-old past.
~Rocksmasher
Do I have to address [my edits]? If so, how?
The first step is in answering this post. You put a wall of text, but the only part of that post that really addressed the issue was the following: I checked the comment sections in both sites and little to none reacted negatively enough to warrant some tropes.
However, that is not the only place where audiences can be. Trope examples are all supposed to have some basis in fact, so removal must be factually-based as well (such as removing a blatant lie about Vader killing Leia). If an example is contested, meaning that people are adding and removing it, then our rules on Edit War come into play. Where can you discuss contested examples and what does "consensus" mean in this context?
~Zerostylinx, the policy can be found on What to Do If You Are Suspended, under the Ban Evasion header; "Asking another troper that you know to edit the wiki or post on your behalf may get that person banned as well." A suspension doesn't always mean that they are unable to login. We have plenty of flexibility in how suspensions are applied, with wiki edits, forum posting, and PM usage completely separate. Your current suspension, for example, allows you to post anywhere in the active forum threads, despite the wiki-side ban. I have a question, and your release isn't likely be affected by the answer; why didn't you ever ask them about posting their own edits to the wiki?
~Boobiesgalore, word things like what? There's a policy violation here and we want to be certain that you understand which policy is being broken.
~Adembergz, if you gained wiki consensus for a new media namespace, that wouldn't be a problem. The proper channel for that is Media namespaces -- a battery of questions or a new thread in Wiki Talk. I'd find your specific proposal unlikely, but if you had managed to gain consensus first, then it'd become policy. Your suspension has nothing to do with an App namespace. Your stubs are a problem, with the policy described on How to Create a Work's Page, and your TLP behaviour makes me wonder if you've read the TLP Guidelines.

Can you describe two requirements for a work article?
Can you describe one rule that you violated in TLP?
~ssbob90, I'm not understanding your use of "and/or" because explaining how a trope applies is the context for an example. Let's visit Characters.Arena Of Valor; what would proper context for Amily, the Crusher look like?

The 2 requirements: 1. At least 3 good trope examples (in alphabetical order) 2. I forgot, I believe having a basic explanation or the page not being a mess (I.e. being riddled with errors)

The TLP mistake I made (besides me doing ti while suspended): 1. Not having at least 3 examples and asking for said examples

That's decent enough for the work stubs, ~Adembergz, but the TLP draft was for a genre index and the draft had several works listed already. The requirements of three examples (quite a bit more before launch, actually) were satisfactorily met. Please check TLP Guidelines for more rules because there are several important ones involved in this situation.

~Crazysamaritan: Thanks for reviewing my case from the beginning. I think I get it, I need to address my mistakes, what I did wrong, and what I should have done instead.

1- I did blanking by removing tropes without an edit reason. The purpose of this website is to expand, not to be a blank page filled with nothing. I should have checked the tropes more carefully and only remove them if I had good reason. If I didn't have one, I should have settled with editing in a way where both parties, me and the other editors, were satisfied.

2- I underestimated the YMMV section. This tropes section is just as subjective as it is objective. Not everybody will have the same opinion as the ones who make the edits. I should have brought some links to pages with the tropes that I deleted as evidence to show that my decision was not biased. I am not sure how much of a difference it would have made, but it would have shown that I was willing to take the audience reaction as a factor for my decision if I hadn't been so careless.

3- Back when I was first suspended, I was invited to a thread to discuss with the creator of the page that I edited. But I was so caught up with my suspension that I didn't notice the link. By the time I found the thread, Stardust had already talked with the moderators and I couldn't explain myself to him or to them. Maybe things wouldn't have changed, but talking things through would have made solving this problem much easier if I had calmed down and not rushed to solve things so fast.

That's so far all I can see regarding my suspension. I see my mistakes and what I should have done to prevent it and what I can do to prevent it. If there's something more you want me to explain then tell me and I will try to answer to the best of my ability.
