This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Nowhere. However, at the time of those edits, I put those entries in the YMMV page, as they were a matter of opinion and the impression the game gave¹. The poster who erased what I had written only gave justifications that boiled down to calling me a fake fan, which is why I, at the time, ended up ignoring them.

Should a similar situation arise, I shall attempt to explain my choices properly and not start another edit war.

¹Say what you will, Girls Frontline is still a very bleak story. Even before considering how it connects to Bakery Girl and GFL 2. Other stories have gotten those tropes on their pages for less.

Okay, yeah, I was wondering why the White Christmas thing seemed so off to me, and now it makes sense. I haven't seen anything like that in the articles I typically edit, which is why it kinda threw me off.

As for the Zero-Context Examples, yeah, I see where I went wrong there. I've been trying to elaborate more in my recent edits, since I always felt like just saying "X is this" was never enough of a qualifier. I know I kinda fall into word cruft at times, but I've been trying to work on that too.

I feel like maybe that's where I went wrong in a lot of cases, trying to provide more elaboration and context at the expense of formatting.

I genuinely cooled down and remembered some TV Tropes policies.

I apologize for edit warring again, but if let back in I want to be free to create a trope for fantasy that deals with race if it doesn't already exist that can be positive/negative/neutral, e.g. "Race within Fantasy" or something like that. (E.G. Twisted Wonderland has people of different fantasy counterpart races, and while mostly positive from what I've played it still utilizes some stereotypes e.g. Sam has a stereotypical African accent [in Japanese].) If not let back in, if anyone could create a trope like that in the future that doesn't invite edit warring that'd be good (if it doesn't already exist).

Edit: I also apologize for stress due to ragequit behavior. If I did create a trope like that I'd try to keep language neutral, but like with Sam's example, IRL race intersects with fantasy fiction.

Edit 2: I looked up key words and I think the kind of trope I'm thinking of is more along the lines of "Race via Fantasy Counterpart." If let back in I don't mind figuring out the nitty-gritty of the trope but if not, would appreciate if someone could create a trope like that.

Alright, I updated the descriptions I put on this page. Hopefully, it adds a bit more clarity to the topic.

Hello, almost a month ago I was banned from editing do to edit warring over Bioshock 2's YMMV page(specifically the Vindicated by History example). I would like all of you to know that since then I have read the Administrivia page for Edit War several times and that I should have consulted VBH's forum before deleting the example. I am deeply sorry for what I did and promise to not do it again.

Thank You.

Courtesy link: TLP Guidelines

1. The minimum age for a trope to be launchable is three days old.
2. The description must be clear and complete.
3. More hats than bombs – five or more to be exact.
4. 12 wicks to other pages (like other works and indexes).
5. Complete draft with no major issues.
6. Let people know the intent to launch the trope at least one day before launch (24 hours).
7. Don't make immediate major changes within the day of launch (24 hours).

This is correct.

When a trope is ready for launch but I'm not the sponsor, you use the hat. If not, you nuke it.

The first sentence is correct. If the draft is abandoned per "Up For Grabs" rules, you can also adopt it and after a few days proceed with launch yourself (this is in the guidelines as "The Adoption Option"). You do not nuke a draft without reason, though I assume you mean "bomb".

Since you seem to understand the requirements for launching, as well as not to rogue launch anymore, your suspension is lifted.

~Tropers/G-Editor appeal

Actually, you have since made quite a few effortposts that have been misleading about their subjects, not just Valeria (we actually do consider inappropriate comparisons misleading). A sampler: in response to your 'Godslayer' proposal in response to your 'Matthew Walker' proposal admitting 'Gideon Hask' was probably not a good idea, in response to your 'Kendra' proposal.

Consequently, other posters are understandably hesitant to vote on your proposals, so your response now is to nag the threads in turn [1] [2] and get defensive when you are called out.

Despite a prior suspension a few months ago, mod PM's, advice from other tropers, and even self-imposed breaks over the last months, this keeps happening. We don't know if you're just not good at representing the media you watch, or desperately want to get your characters in regardless of the contents of the work, or some other reason. Whatever it is, it has become clear that you are currently not a good fit for the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard project threads.

In light of this, we are offering you an indefinite suspension from the Long Term/Perpetual projects subforum. We notice that these threads pretty much comprise your entire recent posting history. We would like for you to branch out and perhaps get a sense of how other threads (project and otherwise) work. If in the far future (year-scale) we see that you are capable of making positive and truthful contributions to other parts of the forum, we can revisit this. How does that sound?

~Pat Tron appeal

Despite a previous suspension for this issue you still delete stuff with no edit reasons: [3] [4] [5]. We don't appreciate tropers relapsing into behavior that we previously told them to knock off.

~The Lewandererz 602555 appeal

That's not how this works. We were expecting you to listen the first time we told you not to use villainy tropes and terminology to describe creators you didn't like in reviews. Since that clearly didn't stick and you went back to it pretty much immediately after, your reviews access will remain off for the forseeable future.

~Tropers/shawn_allen appeal

If by "requests for reinstatement" you mean attempts at PM'ing moderators, we don't handle suspensions over private message. This is the first time you have posted in this thread since this new suspension.

In any case, one reason you are suspended because despite a previous suspension for Example Indentation, it is still an issue in your recent edits even after notifiers, such as this one:

  • The Main Characters Do Everything: A justified example. The Kelvans reduce all "non-essential" crew members to ceramic blocks; "non-essential" turns out to mean everyone barring Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Scotty, and thus it naturally falls to these four to regain control of the ship. Furthermore, due to these characters' high ranks and vital functions note  it makes perfect sense the Kelvans would deem them "essential" relative to the rest of the crew.
    • This also keeps a "reserve" of trained personnel stored in "cube" form, in case Rojan (or one of his descendents) needs an expert.

Your recent edits also display some other issues, including What Goes Where on the Wiki, Natter, and Zero-Context Examples. We will need to go over all of these if you want to edit again.

~Toko90s appeal

Yes, you had the right idea bringing it to Ask The Tropers to prevent an Edit War, but you need to bring the entry up for discussion and get consensus before you redo the edit next time there is a dispute. Other places you can go to include private messages, the discussion page, and the forums. Is that clear?

~Tropers/eshur0s appeal

By redoing an edit of yours without discussion or consensus, you've committed an Edit War. Rather than continuing to put their preferred version of an edit back on the page, we want tropers to communicate with each other and come to an agreement. The next time someone changes or undoes your edit and you disagree, what does Edit War recommend doing?

~Spice 87 appeal

We asked you last time if you had read the rules. They've been changed somewhat since then, so we'd like some assurance that you have some idea of what to do rather than just diving in headfirst to get your faves in. Doing so was what led to your suspension in the first place.

~Tropers/55975964 appeal

No, your appeal is still ongoing. For reference, our last response to you.

~Aegis P appeal

All right then. We are offering you a monthlong suspension in hopes that you can cool down and hopefully reevaluate what causes these kneejerk responses. If by the end of September you think you can respond much more appropriately, we can offer you a final posting chance. Does that sound fair?

I will ask for a list of my more egregious (Lol!) transgressions tho. NOT to say "No I didnt do this" but rather learn this lesson for good and not do any of that ever again. According to Edit War if I am to change the context of a trope under debate or something I already edited once, I have to bring it up in a discussion with other Tropers, whether I use the discussion page, Ask The Tropers, direct message, etc. without starting an edit war.

May I say my thoughts on this. In my defense I did try to make an effort to try to improve my behavior I would actually PM fellows tropers about EPs if they seen the same work as me to help me or make suggestions on how to make the EP accurate (I even PM a few tropers about Valeria and they said her EP was fine), I tried taking breaks, and I even brought my own candidates to be cut (such as Calvin Bunker and Harriet Morse). I Also I genuinely had no idea comparisons could be misleading and would have never made the comparison if I did.

After thinking about my suspension for awhile I think I can recognize that my problem is that I can be impulsive at times when it comes to bringing up candidates that I believe may count only for someone to find something militating about them. I really did tried to make an effort to improve upon that, but it wasn't enough so perhaps this indefinite suspension may be for the best.

However I don't know whether or not a year-scale is necessary. I'm not expecting the mods to give me leniency but perhaps a month, or couple months may work better since this is only my second suspension and even if my suspension is lifted this time I would only just vote and wait an extra month before posting any EPs

Also I’m not sure if being required to contribute to other threads before being reconsidered getting my suspension lifted may work since I'm don’t know if I'd be a good contributor as I dont know many other threads. If I must work on other threads for awhile before posting on the CM and MB threads again where can find these "other threads" project and otherwise"?

With Everything I have said here if the above is still required then I will have to abide by them.

Yeah, Synchronicity. I know I should've learned my lesson. But I just let my negative thoughts get the best of me again. There's no excuse for any of that, so yeah. I just screwed up again. I know I deserve this suspension, and this time, I don't think there's any going back because of what I did.

Regardless, I just wanna say that I'm very, very deeply sorry, and I promise to never do that again. For real. But in any case, you and the mods will decide.

I believed I was following the indentation scheme. The points added were built upon the previous ones. I know new tropes need to have the sub-levels used, but building off the old point was a sub-level to the current one. Is that not correct?

I understand now that my ban was a result of constantly deleting information in certain pages without giving any precise reasons even though I had been regularly told to refrain from doing it. However, I'd prefer not to answer questions that range from "Well, what you were thinking?" to "Why did you keep on doing it?", so why don't I just end this message by giving a sincere apology for not understanding better beforehand and promising to take extreme caution whenever I make major edits in the near-future. If this doesn't seem like enough, please let me know what else I need to do. Thanks!

Hello. I was suspended years ago (and still remained so because I was busy with other matters until now) due to adding in the wrong tropes and not explaining the tropes properly (aka zero context problem and not checking the trope properly). In light of my recent examples on the "Get Help With English Here forum", I would like to ask for an appeal for my suspension removed? I'll continue adding my contributions on the English help forum to fix any grammar mistakes before I put my edits on the pages proper. An if the appeal doesnt go through I would like to hear the reason why and/or how close I am to appeal.

I didn't realize that Knife Nut was a defunct trope when I made my last edit to Characters/TheRiseOfKyoshi. That's all I can think of in regards to why I was just suspended.

Edit: Just saw the thing in Ask The Tropers. I think that all I can really say in my defence is that I didn't notice the previous removals, my previous attempts to add in the entry must have slipped my mind (it WAS over half a year ago), and again, I had no idea that Knife Nut was a defunct trope. Now that I DO know, I'll stop trying to add my example under that name.

I’m assuming my suspension has something to do with trying to edit Amity’s character page even though the previous time I did that, the moderators reverted it. I did it because

1. Both bastard and bitch are used derisively against people, but bitch usually has even worse connotations against women most of the time.

2. Previous times I removed unnecessary usages of the word bitch, nobody decided to revert, even when I edited Malty’s character page.

3. Looking at a page that called a 15 year old a bitch left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I inadvertently started an edit war, and the lesson here is “If a moderator reverts an edit that you made, instead of trying to edit it back in, talk about why you did it””. What I did won’t happen again.
