I've signed up for the Beta. Probably won't get a look-in since I don't come from UMURICUH!

Censoring is still a big problem that tempers with cast composition.

I admit, Sacrier's blood could be an interesting character. But they use a lot of blood in their actions. A. LOT. And that's not exactly kid friendly. They've somehow bypassed that problem, by making one of Nox's puppet using a black goo instead of blood. But they can't exactly hide the fact that they enjoy pain a little too much. Except for Kriss, who's more of an attention whore.

Same for Pandawa. A Drunken Master ? Sure, but didn't we replace beer with juice and alcohol with hot sauce in kid's shows until recently? That would destroy part of the character. However, animators seems to like their look a lot: count the number of time where you can see one of them in background, or in a crowd. Fluffy humanoïd pandas always looks cool. waii

I've heard many interviews where censoring was tempering with their intention. Ruel's greed was Played for Laughs, and only that allow it to pass. They couldn't show male Srams, because in some country, skulls are forbidden to be shown on TV. Vampyro couldn't be defeated by being thrown trough a glass, because it could give childrens weird ideas. Yugo could never be seen hit directly, they had to use a jumpcut each time it should happen. Breasts had to be small enough. And so on...

The best one was told by Tot to me. In episode 9, the villain was called Gonnard. So Tot recieved a very angry phone call from France 3, because it sounded too much like "Connard" in french. It's like naming a character Az'hole in English... The name stayed despite the phone call, tough. evil grin

Well, considering how the show Grow the Beard in the few last episode, maybe censoring is a thing of the past. We all hope so... wink

this is such a pretty looking show... I really hate the fact that my French is so incredibly weak that I can't follow it. Dutch, German, English, all would be good, but French is beyond me.

And I have found them.

I'm really enjoying the show. It starts out slow, and the animation isn't top notch, but the design, the warm feel of the backgrounds, and the story and humour are enough to keep me going from one episode to the next.

I'm archive binging!

They need to have Sacrier's Blood character. Best class in the game. Those guys were awesome. A decent western animation with that kind of lost opportunity just.... isn't cool.

Yeah but they're still aiming at a fairly young market. Animation that good can't be cheap.

I'd like to thank you for pointing this series out. I'm about seven episodes in and I'm really liking it.

aaaaaalmost finished... the last couple of episodes really managed to impress me. It started out like something a bit light-hearted, but now that I'm near the end I'm honestly impressed by the depth of the story and even the characters.

I finished the last episode, only a couple of minutes ago.

Holy shit, that was AWESOME!

Will there be a second season? If so, when is it going to be aired. If not, why the hell not!?

Season 2 should air on February 2011. That is, if Ankama doesn't fall into another Schedule Slip. Wich they often do. waii

But that's MONTHS away from now!

I can't wait that long! I need to be spoiled! I need to know! I need to see!

By the way, Wakfu sort of reminds me of Lanfeust. Both tend to have that wacky vibe and creative use of magic, both are set in a world that is populated by eclectic critters. Though, Lanfeust is way more adult than Wakfu of course.

I love Wakfu. It's maybe the only great French cartoon, it makes me hope :O

I really like the "Gurren Lagann with Moe Moe instead of Hot Blood" tone^^. But I can't wait this long for season 2 ><

This Lanfeust thing sounds relevant to my interests. Is there an official English translation? If so, is it any good?

I have no idea if there's an English translation. As far as I can tell there hasn't been a translated version, and since the American market is pretty closed off to European comics, there might never be a translated version of the comic. The first series was published in the 90s and is pretty much self-contained. The second series Lanfeust of the Stars is sort of self-contained, and imho a bit awkward since the original went from full-blown fantasy to science fiction. It's not bad, and the artwork is more than decent, but it wasn't the same as the first series. The third series, which is being published right now, is closer to the first, as far as I can tell.

Then there are the numerous spin-offs... such as the Cixi solo series

If it ever gets published in America it'll probably be a castrated version, since Lanfeust has a lot of adult humour and even some nudity.

Wait... what? I'm pretty sure Amalia and Evangelyne are pretty well "equipped" for their age. Minor characters also.

Oh, they do restrain themself a lot for the animated series. Trust me, it's small, compared to the character designer's standards: here is a few examples (mildly NSFW).

Hartman Hips, however, are a-OK! ;)

Seeing a Sadida with big boobs, even though I know it's not Amalia, is weird.

@Esteban. I was hoping that there had been an English translation aimed at the UK Market, rather like Asterix had.

Did you know that Eva was initially supposed to have realistic chest dynamics ? Unfortunately, Ankama didn't have the same weight to defend their ideas in the early episodes as they later got when the series became a big hit, and France 3 said No No. See early concept here

Well, that makes Eva about twice as distracting as she already was. Which is saying a lot.

Also, just wanted to say how much I loved your fansubs! They were head and shoulders above the other ones.

I dunno, they snuck in a bit of that. In the scene in...24, I think, the scene where's she shoving a door closed with her whole body weight the camera lingers on the movements of her chest. Someone on /co/ made a gif that showed it.
