Content Violations Review: Visual Novel.Magical Canan

This franchise has at least three different incarnations: the original VN, the hentai OVAs (Magical Kanan and Magical Kanan SP) and the TV series. All but the TV series are 18+ versions only. I'm nominating all of these so that we can determine which ones we keep, and which ones we cut.

Personally, I don't think there's any paedobait in this franchise, tho I'm on the fence regarding whether or not it's porn for the sake of porn. The OVAs and the CGs for the VN can all be found on a certain site - I can post the URL of the site without actually linking it, tho I don't know if I'm allowed to do that here.

I don't have much hope for the +18 OVA. If an anime adaptation of an eroge Visual Novel keeps the sexual content, it tends to remove and tone down everything else, turning it into a pure hentai. That's what happened with Kara no Shoujo, which was originally filled with mystery and horror plots. On the other hand we have cases like Yosuga no Sora which kept some sex scenes in its 13 episodes, but they were brief and slightly less explicit compared to the visual novel.

Hentai doesn't necessarily mean a work is automatically disqualified. Holding off on a vote on the OVA until someone has actually reviewed the content.

It seems I don’t have much opinion for the ova rigt now but what I am reading seems to be not right. So cut the ova right now

I just confirmed that the OVA was uploaded to the Internet Archive at some point, so reviewing it won't be a major hassle. I can work on it tonight and tomorrow.

Okay, I've watched three out of four episodes of the OVA. Key points:

• There is a story but each episode is about 40-60% sex scenes, though episode 3 managed to get to the Ad Bumper without a full-length one. It's basically an X-rated Magical Girl series.
• The characters are mostly generic anime schoolgirls: sexualized but not pedobait.

Hmm. Damn it, this is sounding on-the-edge. ...leaning, but not committed to, keep.

Firstly, I was under the assumption that the page was already restricted to the Tamer and Chaster TV anime, but it isn't even listed in The Content Policy and there are some trope examples exclusive to the hentai.

Secondly, in this subforum we usually don't argue for the keeping or restoration of Hentai OVAs even if many of them were removed by admin fiat. At most we discuss some non-nukige Visual Novels. However, like in this case, some of them might actually have enough plot to avoid crossing the line. So I'm voting keep for all versions of Magical Kanan, as it's safe to assume that the original Visual Novel should have more plot than the OVA.

Yeah, I think the OVA is the only question mark here. My impression is that it can't really decide whether it wants to be porn or a teen Sex Comedy about magical girls. I'm going to hold off actually voting until I watch the last episode.

Okay, having watched ep 4, I honestly could go either way with this one. It's right on the line of Porn with Plot.

In that case, formalizing my keep vote. There's something of tropable value here.
