Social Media Moderators Needed

Good day tropers!

We are looking for knowledgeable volunteers to become the moderators of our Facebook, Twitter and Reddit pages. All moderators will be able to post content to any of these sites through a 3rd party site that allows cross-posting.

Social Media Moderators will also get their own mod slack channel to talk to each other, myself and the other mods. They will also get their names added to /KnowTheStaff in their own section and get a special corresponding badge once my badge update is pushed up soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

CRITERIA TO BE A MOD:

• Must not have any active suspensions
• Must be highly active on T Vtropes
• Account must be older than a year

CURRENT VOLUNTEERS: (2-3 per site preferred)

CURRENT SITES:

• Twitter (10k followers): Plakythebirb, Orbiting
• Facebook (104k followers): Orbiting, wingedcatgirl
• Reddit: (don’t have access, run by someone else)

• Tumblr: Plakythebirb, movienut14, Cutegirl920fire
• Tiktok: Plakythebirb (scripts)
• Instagram: siegfried1337

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• As a social media moderator you will be representing TV Tropes and as such you must remain respectful and socially conscious at all times and never post anything offensive. No politics, only Tropes and related content.
• Make frequent posts (At least 1 post ever other day, everyday preferred)
• Reply to comments (Do not feed the trolls, never respond angry or aggressively)
• Comment on other popular accounts with funny or encouraging posts.
• Properly use hashtags on every post if your site uses them.
• Contact other pages for shoutouts and/or collaborations.

I could probably handle Reddit. I haven't been a Reddit mod before, but I'm familiar enough with its interface.

the cynic in me wonders if Tv tropes still needs a presence on those three social networks,but I get why we have them

A month ago, I would have volunteered to moderate the TV Tropes subreddit, as I have lots of experience as a moderator including on a very large subreddit, but a bunch of bad decisions from the CEO over the course of June have led me to drop that site.

Picking today to announce a plan to revive the Twitter account definitely goes up there in terms of "really awful timing". ^note For those not aware, earlier today Twitter disabled all direct viewing of their site to anyone without a logged-in account. This probably isn't helped either by the recent issues with Reddit over API charging. Neither of those websites look especially sustainable in the long term, and I'm not sure they'd accomplish much to promote TVTropes at this point. Facebook still kind of just...exists, but...

It might be better to look into the newer crop of social media sites and figure out what can be done with setting up accounts there. Mastodon in particular seems to the big new thing.

Should we consider closing down that subreddit too as a part of the protest going on, or do we stay out of it?

Tumblr's been receiving a bit of a revival, would starting a tumblr account work?

Ya we could add some more types of social media sites to the list if you wanted to manage it. But since we already have these 3 set up with some followers and content, we wanted to revive them first or along with new additions. We will have a 3rd party site that will give the Social Media Moderator(s) access to all of the social media sites at the same time so they can post all at once or individually.

Even if we get no volunteers, management refuses to shut them down for "potential future engagement" so they will just sit there being linked on every page but without any updated posts. So hopefully we can get some knowledgeable tropers in here to help keep at least a weekly post going for each.

Ticktock is a possibility,if you want engagement that's people are other then the big three

It has seen a revival so a tv tropes tumblr page wouldn't be bad choice

Might as well say it again since it got a bit lost, but I can probably moderate Reddit and Twitter. I don't really use Facebook so I wouldn't be that much help for that account.

Ultimatum,

Tiktok and Tumblr are good ideas. I think we should stop at those 5 though.

We could operate a tumblr, if one is started. we definitely don't already spend way too much time on that site

Not sure about Tik Tok as an official platform, but that's probably because I'm blanking on what exactly would be posted on a TV Tropes Tik Tok.

Having Tumblr is great, but we need some people to help manage the others as well.

How about we compromise. A few of you agree you want to manage Tumblr but if you also help manage the other 3 and make posts, even just copy paste, then I can give a few of you guys access.

We already have a volunteer for Twitter and Reddit so that means you’ll just need to take on Facebook and possibly Tik Tok if that was something you guys think would actually do well. I’ve never used tik tok so I’m not sure how that would work for TV Tropes.

For tiktok, we could do shorts explaining a particular trope, briefly discuss it's history then showcase some examples and images.

I don't have any example in making video content yet so can't help with that.

Tiktok is a video site. It's the reason every other site on the entire internet is adding unnecessary video features; apparently they hear "like tiktok" and their eyes immediately turn into dollar signs.

How TVT could function there is beyond us... though, tiktok itself is beyond us, so maybe our opinion isn't very helpful.

I can assist with reddit/twitter, if plakythebirb wants any help there

Thanks Orbiting, I’m sure you guys can workout a schedule of who posts on what and when depending on your personal lives.

I don’t want anyone to feel overwhelmed with 5 social media sites so it’s okay we take on a little group to help each other out. Someone could post in the morning and someone in the afternoon, or alternate days for instance.

May be helpful to come up with duties for each site. Reddit acts like an extension of the forum as people there are using it as Trope Finder or to blog, so it naturally needs attention. But Twitter and Facebook previously simply posted a random trope every day. So depending on what activities go there, a mod's responsibilities can get very broad (for example, should they respond to replies to the trope of the day, should they promote discussions on specific topics, should they look up mentions of the site, etc...).

If we go for using Tik Tok for "history of tropes" videos, I could probably write some scripts for those. Probably wouldn't be good at actually editing them though, as I haven't used the app.

Is there any room (or rooms in this case) for mentioning TVTropes on Discord or the Fediverse?

You seem to be really active so I'd like it if you first joined the team to help out with Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and/or Tiktok first and then once we get a smooth content flow going we can come back to adding more social media sites to the list. We may also need a knowledgeable troper to be the overall content manager with so many sites.

My hands mostly full, and I'm not good on moderating, though I'm very interested on the Tumblr one for light volunteer work.

Was only suggesting on other sites too.
