Welcome to the Magnificent Bastard (MB) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.

Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a MB has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's MBs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any MB link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an MB link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved MBs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their MB equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.

Hey guys, I just rewatched Rise of the Beasts recently and Noah doesn't count. He panics and tries to back out of stealing the car, is clearly losing his shit through his meeting with the Autobots, gets humiliated and beaten by Elena (even being stupidly honest “It's for giant robots from space”), he's super unsure about the destroy the key plan, and the “right under the Autobots' nose is false, because Elena could've ratted him out at anytime, with him only trusting her because she was human. Regardless of what you think his Justified Criminal past and how morally ambiguous it would've been to deny the Autobots a way (not helped that Optimus sacrificed it himself), he does not have any magnificence. Good character, though.

Having rewatched the film just a couple days ago, I'd note that most of the stuff you list as damaging his magnificence happens in the first act; by the time he's on the mission with the Autobots I think he's hardened up enough to be called magnificent in how he conducts himself. He kicks major ass with Mirage's help, is a huge component in the plan to push back Unicron by infiltrating the transwar device, and his near-destruction of the transwarp key to doom the Autobots to remain on Earth is played as pretty damn seriously threatening until he's talked down from it. Yea Elena could have ratted him out, but she doesn't, so I'm not sure why that's an issue, tbh.

Fine with keeping Noah having seen the film, like Ravok said he nicely grows out of it and imo most of that is more to make him look more likable than anything.

Alexios here is cited as MB. As someone who read (and really liked) the VN, he isn't. He is a Dirty Coward who manages to be useful to the protagonist because he spills important info just so he isn't beat up, and a lot of stuff (such as getting really Dog-kickey with rubbing salt about Neferu being disliked by his own parents) make it clear that, post Evil All Along reveal, we're meant to see him as a snivelt little shit rather than a cool mastermind.

Is Noah on the list? I know I'm not here as frequently as I used to be but I don't remember them getting posted.
They were approved a few days ago, by Flower Picking themself in fact. They no longer feel comfortable with the proposal so someone else will have to do the writeup.

Flower proposed them but is now no longer comfortable writing them up. Basically, they're still approved but the writeup's up for grabs by anyone who's seen the movie

Ight, here's what i got:
- Noah Diaz is a former solider who turned to crime to support his family, willing taking up a carjacking job for his friend Reek. Being roped into helping the Autobots by a disguised Mirage, he sneaks into a facility to get the Transwarp Key, saving the researcher Elana Wallace when the Terrorcons attack. Willingly joining the Autobots after learning of Unicron's potential arrival, he secretly plans on destroying the Transwarp Key to prevent Unicron from being summoned, risking the Autobots being stranded on earth without their consent. Once talked down by Optimus Prime from destroying it at the last second, Noah's contributions to the battle ultimately result in the earth being saved from Unicron while also staying behind to save Optimus, afterwards being offered a job by G.I. Joe while getting the pay for his brother's medical bills in the process.
Thoughts?

I have an example I'm unsure about on the Power Rangers page:
- "Shark Attack": The Shark Brothers are fiercely loyal subordinates of Treacheron, who investigate his downfall, discover Trakeena's involvement, and then break their leader out of Scorpius's brig. They help him try to assassinate Trakeena and battle the Galaxy Rangers. The Shark Brothers are the only villains of the season to recognize and admit that they can't beat the Power Rangers while they're empowered by the Lights of Orion, although they can handily beat four of the Rangers when they aren't using those extra abilities. When Treacheron dies in a duel, the Shark Brothers are distraught enough to try to avenge him, despite knowing that they stand little to no chance of surviving the battle.
One thing is that it's Treacheron (who while being their leader isn't a Shark Brother) who says that keeping the rangers separated will allow them to beat them. The Shark Brothers aren't aware of this since they ask confusingly how they can beat the Rangers with the lights. They also do a bad job with the plan to keep the rangers separate, since they fight them as a group of 4 rather than 1 on 1, which allows Leo to easily rejoin the fight after he recovers. The confused tone again returns when Leo joins them, as they seem shocked and unprepared for his return. To give credit, they do acknowledge they are too weak to handle the rangers, and that Treacheron taking on Leo one on one is a bad idea, but after Treacheron gives his spiel about honor, they instantly give in and allow Treacheron to duel Leo, which is a Curb-Stomp Battle and leads to Treacheron's death. The line about them being distraught is an exaggeration too, as they are upset for a single line, and then get angry and grow giant. There's really no emphasis placed on them knowing they can't survive, since at that point they grow big which is a completely different fight, and they don't talk while big, only grunt.

Yeah the Shark Brothers were ones I had concerns about looking over their writeup, so I've no issues cutting there.
