To-do list:
- Since Eight Point Eight is now a disambiguation page, move any wicks that fit other pages on the index, and remove other wicks.
- 18 correct usages of the trope.
- 6 wicks that weren't talking about the reviewed product, but rather about reviewers known for giving low votes to stuff people like.
- 3 examples where the reviewer is mocked. (Hint: two times out of 3 it's IGN)
- 3 examples that were just "This one reviewer gave this thing a vote lower than average", but doesn't mention any backlash between fans.
- 5 examples that, while technically correct, don't mention the actual vote.
- 9 ZCEs
- 6 examples are random forms of misuse, such as "this game got overall negative reviews", "this game got both super high and super low votes", "this book got worse votes than the earlier books by the same author"...
We need to do something about this, but what?

Opening.
This is a real phenomenon among the audience when they don't like how critics scored things. Maybe more clearly write out the requirements of 8.8 (the description is very big) and clean up.
There was a call to make this Definition-Only. I currently support doing that, barring any convincing arguments otherwise.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallIs there that much of a difference between this trope and He Panned It, Now He Sucks! when the work being reviewed is generally well-received (beyond the latter allowing examples and not the former)? They seem pretty similar to me in that case.

The very common misuse of putting it on pages for reviewers should indeed be moved to that trope. I saw more cases of that after the wick check, including the one on YMMV.Jimquisition that reads more as a List of Transgressions of every time they gave a bad score to a good game than anything else.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.I see. 8.8 is for works, while HPINHS is for reviewers.
I think we should make this definition-only, which we previously did with Eight Deadly Words. I also feel that He Panned It, Now He Sucks! covers the general concept already (yes, Eight Point Eight is about reviews and He Panned It, Now He Sucks! is about reviewers, but you can't have one without the other).

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. That sounds like a good idea. He Panned It, Now He Sucks! could probably use cleaning and/or TRS itself because of all the complaining, but that's something for another thread.
I'd also support making this Definition-Only. The rare moments I've come across this trope, it always seems to be used as thinly veiled complaining about critics and review magazines. Which often have nothing to do with the work anyway.
Trust no one.I don't see the point in having both this and He Panned It, Now He Sucks!: they're describing the same thing, just separated by what pages they're supposed to be listed on . I would rather just redirect Eight Point Eight to He Panned It, Now He Sucks!.
Yeah, I don't see a point to "defining" something that boils down to "reviewer gave a meh score and people got annoyed".
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness8.8 can also apply to a score people believe is too high, but that's not what the trope is usually used for.
Scanned through the wick check and only saw 2 examples of a reviewer getting backlash for giving too complementary a review of something (Cells At Work and Sword Art Online), and one of those was still misuse for not having a specific review score.
Finally. I've wanted to take care of this for years but have never gotten around to making a proper thread.
Kill the trope outright — it only exists for complaining. Make it a redirect if you want to preserve the inbounds, but it doesn't even deserve a page when He Panned It, Now He Sucks! exists.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Changing my vote to redirect per the reasons outlined above.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI'm switching my vote to redirect too.
Eight Point Eight notes the critic reviews don't have to be negative (even can be 9.5), as long as the vocal fanbase wasn't expecting the reasoning, valid or not. Maybe it's closer to Critical Dissonance more.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupDoes that matter if the usage is skewed toward negative reviews?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessCritical Dissonance and Eight Point Eight "see also" each other but don't explain how they differ. The latter seems to be the former except with fandom rage.
Maybe disambiguate Eight Point Eight with Critical Dissonance and He Panned It, Now He Sucks!?

Come play Character Uplift Game!I'm down with this. Throw in Four-Point Scale and Sacred Cow and you got a solid disambig page. The item's completely redundant with He Panned It, Now He Sucks! in my view.
Seconded.
Making it a disambig is also an acceptable outcome.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Disambig for me
Kirby is awesome.disambig is probs the safer option than a redirect.
that said, if the vast majority of the use is just He Panned It, Now He Sucks!, then I'd rather the redirect. People link to disambig pages all the time, especially for well known/popular tropes that got the ax, and going back to constantly remove the wicks is annoying.

Crown Description:
Eight Point Eight is about review scores causing backlash because the fandom of the reviewed product thinks the vote is inadequate, but it's frequently misused. What should be done with it?
