To-do list: Move examples that fit one of the tropes on the Knife Nut disambiguation page and remove ones that don't, such as characters who wield a knife with no further meaning.
- Knives as a Weapon of Choice: 20/79 or 25%
- Unhinged Knife User: 11/79 or 14%
- Knife Fetishization: 2/79 or 3%
- General Knife Usage: 12/79 or 15%
- ZCE: 24/79 or 30%
- Other: 10/79 or 13%
Besides ZCEs, the most common form of usage is describing a character who uses knives as their Weapon Of Choice. However, this only makes up about a quarter of the overall wick check, and presumably, a quarter of the usage the trope receives. Granted, that's still about 1500 wicks, so that's not too bad- however, I also question the tropeability of a trope that's just "WOC, but with knives". The categories that actually implied something behind the usage, Unhinged and Fetishization, only make up a much smaller percentage, but have tropeworthy meanings behind them and the use of the knives.
Then there's the ZCE...Which leads me to believe this is suffering similar issues that appearance tropes do. That is, people will pothole it and use it without context and without meaning, but "Character Uses a Knife" isn't a trope as much as "Character Is Blonde" isn't a trope.
Some options, not all of them mutually exclusive:
- We could redefine this as "Character uses Knives as a Weapon Of Choice", assuming that's tropeworthy
- We could split off the "Unhinged Knife User" aspect and maybe the "Fetishization" aspect into tropes of their own, or redefine this trope to mean one of those things
- This trope could be cut or disambiged

Should we run the crowner for longer than the standard three days? This trope has over 6,000 wicks and I think people deserve a chance to have their voices heard.
We already advertised the crowner on ATT and put a notice on the trope page, and the former is when most of the votes come in. Plus, the top option has such overwhelming consensus in favor of it that I don't see it changing too much if any new votes come in.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Yea, you'd need 49 more to get the second option to even approach the first in ratio.

For every low there is a high.I would suggest "Madman with a knife" even though I don't like sexed terms.
My understanding of this association is that a kitchen knife is an object that is both common in homes today and is obviously dangerous. So when we see an attacker with one, its ubiquitous nature gives a "Danger lurking everywhere" vibe, and suggests the wielder is an apparent everyman who picked it up without any preparation; an axe or butcher's cleaver would imply a more specialised job. So it's not so much that the killer loves knives, but there are story implications in using one.
...Or it may be that stabbing wounds are easier to create on a budget than the result of an axe or bludgeon attack.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.Just a heads up, since the stability of a crowner is important and this one experienced a significant shift on day one, we've decided to let it run for an extra day, meaning it'll be up until at least the 13th instead of the 12th.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Calling in favor of the following:
- Redefine to refer to unhinged knife users and rename (name would be decided with another crowner), send other tropeworthy concepts to the Trope Idea Salvage Yard, and disambiguate the original name (Knife Nut)
Could someone please compile a list of name options?
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I don't think this was all of the names but:
Macron's notesThat works. New crowner hooked.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I know the crowner's already started, but maybe Nutty Knifer? I'm good with Psycho Knife Nut though, just thought I'd suggest that.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Knifer... Is that a real word? I had ideas along those lines, and that's the reason I abandoned it.

Macron's notesPsycho Knife Nut gets my vote.
Kirby is awesome.Calling crowner in favor of renaming Knife Nut into Psycho Knife Nut. I created Sandbox.Psycho Knife Nut because the description needs to be rewritten and the examples need to be sorted out. I will do some work on the sandbox later today.
Macron's notesI made a really rough description and sorted some of the examples. It's bad but it's all I can think of.
The vast majority of the examples are just "Knives are this character's Weapon Of Choice". Should those examples be moved to WOC?
The few that are about unhinged characters don't talk much about their personality but I'll see what I can do.
Macron's notesI don't think it's bad. Could use some more fleshing out in some spots, but it's a solid base.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah, I think characters who simply have knives as their Weapon Of Choice can simply have their Knife Nut wicks moved to Weapon Of Choice.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. If we're gonna give it an epitaph, I have a suggestion: "it fell on its own blade".
Cleaned the comic examples. Most of the comic books folder had to get moved to WOC at the top, and the comic strip section got moved wholesale.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness(It's been a while since I participated in this side of the wiki - how does Trope Idea Salvage Yard work? It occurred to me that a decent name for the suggested trope about the knife being treated as a uniquely sneaky or underhanded weapon would be Knives In The Dark.)

The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable^ The Trope Idea Salvage Yard is just sort of a big idea storage bin, originating from the TLP discard project but later being used heavily for preserving cut tropes or TRS concepts nobody wanted to directly draft themselves.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI finished sorting the Anime & Manga folder and I did partial work on the Fan Works folder. I see some examples for "knife fetish" and "sneaky knives" so I'll gather examples of those concepts into two sandboxes as yard material for anyone interested in drafting those two concepts.
The WOC section is getting huge so I think I'll start migrating some of the examples to the WOC page.

Macron's notesI know at least two characters that have an unhealthy obsession with sharp objects but don't actually use them, so that could be its own concept.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupMaybe the trope could be about sharp objects in general instead of just knives.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
Crown Description:
Consensus was to redefine Knife Nut to refer to unhinged knife users and rename (name would be decided with another crowner), send other tropeworthy concepts to the Trope Idea Salvage Yard, and disambiguate the original name. What should the new name be?
IDK if it's necessarily redundant. A "nut" doesn't necessarily mean psycho. It could just be someone who is nutty about knives.
