Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes? thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread, as do the self-demonstrating character pages.

There are some that are actually commented out on the page right now. There's even a few that aren't commented out: the Boobs-and-Butt Pose example, for instance.
TRS Wick CleaningI saw that one, but I don't know if there's really much more to give when it's all in the artwork
Character Specific Page cleanupAre you supposed to get consensus to split a character page? Ikea Han just split a section of Characters.Dislyte into its own page (Characters.Dislyte Esper Union) and I can't seem to find something that suggests they got permission/consensus (I'm on mobile and currently away from my laptop, so if I missed an edit reason explaining why, I apologize as their edit on Characters.Dislyte was very long and Ctrl+F doesn't work well on mobile)
I don't even know if it meets the limits as again, away from my laptop and I rather do the byte count on my laptop as you can't access source code on mobile.

Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."The consensus issues is kinda been a back-and-forth topic here lately. Admittedly, I could've given a heads up first, so my bad there.
The Dislyte pages I split though were well past big enough; the base page is still upwards of 120k without the Esper Union, the latter being 85k on its own. It seemed so as not to inflate the main index.

Character Specific Page cleanupJust please make sure to say something next time before you do it. You're a veteran here and I know you know the rules well so I doubt you'd make a bad move, but recent events have proved that even something as small as a quick heads-up would be appreciated.
We have an Edit Reasons and Why You Should Use Them related notifier (simply saying you're splitting is not a sufficient edit reason) and also we've just introduced a new notifier for unilateral large changes, and splitting Characters/ page that doesn't show a red banner need consesnus or at least a headsup, just a reminder.
Also Characters.Dislyte Esper Union isn't a CSP, so such headsup or this topic would be at Too-long Cleanup or Characters Page Cleanup.
Also please put Characters.Dislyte Esper Union under index markup on the parent page so it would get the relevant box at the bottom.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWe've got a couple of big pages on the workshop that have been here for a while:
- Bio Shock Infinite Booker De Witt (43,667 bytes)
- Bio Shock Infinite Elizabeth (44,283 bytes)
- Game of Thrones - Loras Tyrell (49,775 bytes)
- Game Of Thrones - Renly Baratheon (43,482 bytes)
- Game Of Thrones - Sandor Clegane (50,235 bytes)
- Genshin Impact Xiao (41,448 bytes)
- Genshin Impact Zhongli (42,515 bytes)
- Sailor Moon Haruka Tenoh (44,939 bytes)
- Sailor Moon Michiru Kaioh (43,787 bytes)
- Soul Series Soul Edge And Nightmare (74,199 bytes)
Is there something holding these up like a requirement not met or is it just people took a break from polishing them?

Character Specific Page cleanupIt's probably just not getting to them at the moment even though they meet the requirements, uncertainty or other reasons.
Over 900 years, he shall recover his heartbeat. Over 90 years, he shall recover his intellect. Over 9 years, he shall recover his power. The most likely reason is that the pages they're currently on are so threadbare this is the only way they can meet the byte count.
Mayne we should have more specific comments around in that case (i.e. page of origin is too small; cleanup still needed; etc.)
Character Specific Page cleanup~STARCRUSHER99 I went ahead and made the swap on the Mold page since its been a few days.
I've made my way through most of the Irregulars page, but I don't plan on doing anything until I've gotten through it all and gotten some feedback/let some time pass.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsAny chance there's a larger RE cleanup thread somewhere?
Character Specific Page cleanupRe: Anominous
Sorry, I forgot that thread existed. I was also in a hurry.
Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."Not that I know of...
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsWhile I take full responsibility for creating Soul Series Soul Edge And Nightmare, there came a problem in that the whole "Original Timeline/New Timeline" structuring made the whole page look awkward and confusing to me. It doesn't help that both "timeline versions" end up sharing many of the same tropes.
My decision to group Soul Edge and Nightmare came with a simple reason; they're both intrinsically tied to one another. If the page was just structured to just folders for "Soul Edge" and Nightmare" (and maybe "Shared Tropes"), the page likely would have been easier to make.
Make no mistake, I would really like to contribute to it, provided I am a fan of Soul Calibur, but the way the character pages, in general, are set up as well as how the Soul Edge/Nightmare page turned out has made it quite difficult to really approach.
Another thing to point out is that the CSP project isn't the only thing I play contribution to as I have a more active role contributing in the Trope Pantheons role. That, and, well, personal life issues and committments.
"Money is the goddamn plan! Have some faith, y'all!"I don't know why we are even talking about Nightmare and Edge here. Are they the same character. If not how do they fit an index about a specific character, not characters, getting there own page.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI was simply responding to IkeaHan's post regarding their post of a list of long character page sandboxes of which Soul Edge and Nightmare are listed at the bottom. Admittedly, I should made that clear on the first post.
As for the second question, Soul Edge is an evil sword whose even a minimal amount of contact would corrupt others into malice. Anyone who touches the sword, let alone attempts to wield it, would become the sword's host. In the case of Siegfried, he transforms into a being known as Nightmare, though later in the original timeline, Nightmare becomes a separate physical manifestation after Siegfried frees himself with shenanigans via Tira and Zasalamel. In SCV, Soul Edge finds another host in Graf Dumas, making him the third Nightmare.
The abridged version: Nightmare is essentially the living incarnation of Soul Edge. The same thing also applies to Inferno, whose the physical manifestation of the sword. That's why I see Soul Edge and Nightmare as a Character Specific Page.

"Money is the goddamn plan! Have some faith, y'all!"For characters spread across timelines or installments, I usually have a general folder that compiles all of the tropes shared across every version. Then you can go more specific for every version.
Character Specific Page cleanupOh okay. I just wanted to make sure because the title is confusing. Is there a better way to title it? Like would simply calling it Soul Edge work?
Edited by Bullman on Sep 28th 2022 at 3:28:56 AM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadUnfortunately, Soul Edge is already taken because it's one of the titles of the games in the series. Maybe Soul Edge Weapon and then custom titling it for parenthesis around "Weapon" could work?
Frankly I think you could just keep it as "Soul Series: Nightmare"
He's the series mascot, he and soul edge are intertwined anyway, and it's much more concise than the alternative.
