On this site, I've often ran into the problem of not being able to find anything from a giant list of examples on a trope page because it wasn't alphabetically ordered (this is a bigger problem with example pages because they are so large). This can also cause the problem of duplicate works on the same example section, because a work couldn't easily be found.
Even though I'm a rather disorganized person by nature (my parents told me this all the time), I'm still bothered by the lack of A-Z ordering. I have been ordering some example pages A-Z and I've wondering, has this been a problem for anyone else? Is anyone else bothered by a lack of alphabetization on some pages?
If so, please link me some of those pages so I can reorder them when I feel like doing so.
UPDATE 2/28/22- Check Out Sandbox- Alphabetically Ordering Examples Clean Up
Alphabetizing special cases:
- El Goonish Shive: Place in "E".
- .hack and related articles: Ignore the dot, place in "H".
- ×××HOLiC: Place in "X".
Once examples on a page have been alphabetized, this tag can be added to the top:

I'd think St. is just Saint shortened and go with it.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupRe: hashtags and other unusual punctuation at the start of a title
99% of the time, when a work title begins with punctuation, it's supposed to be silent, and we don't take it into account when alphabetizing. .hack is the exception, not the rule—and we have consensus to ignore the punctuation even there, and alphabetize it under "H".
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. This is pretty minor, but what do you do when troping a one-shot that's released in a longer series, but isn't actually part of the main series' story. Do you trope it under the main series' main page (e.g. [Work X]: This trope occurs in the [One-shot title]) even though it has nothing to do with the former, or do you trope it independently?
If I want to alphabetisize a locked page, how does one go about requesting the change?
^^ l think both options are fine to do on trope pages.
^ If you are making minor alphabetization fixes, you can post what you want us (the mods) to fix. If you plan on alphabetizing the entire page or a large part of it, I recommend copy pasting the article into a sandbox, do the alphabetization, and then request the sandbox to be swapped into the locked page.
Macron's notesWhen it comes to alphabetizing works that start with foreign articles, do you alphabetize them by the article?
Was about to alphabetize HistoricalDomainCharacter.Anime And Manga and saw that one of the entries, Le Chevalier d'Eon started with the French article "le". Since the wiki policy says to alphabetize by articles in general, does that apply to all articles or just the English ones?
Gotcha, TY!

Victor of HGS S320 | "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember."It applies to all articles, as long as they're being used as articles.
El Goonish Shive, for instance, starts with something that looks like an article but isn't.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Award-Bait Song lists examples by release date. Why? Can I alphabetize them?
The Thanksgiving parade part should remain as is, because it's sub-examples on a single work.

Wiki policy is to ignore articles at the start when alphabetizing. How to Alphabetize Things:
Do this even for foreign-language articles.
Got it. I see those are already neatly listed in sub bullets. Alphabetizing the titles on the rest is fine? Is anyone attached to chronological order?
I have a question, when sorting a page, if one franchise has examples for a bunch of installments, how should those be sorted? Do they get alphabetized as well, or should they be sorted by release date?
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsI'd do it by release date, because they're sub-examples within a single greater work. This is the type of thing which can't be done manually.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Release date order makes more sense to me than alphabetical, though I may not go out of my way to fix existing alphabetised lists.

Ok, so I recently made DerivativeWorks.Alices Adventures In Wonderland.
The commented out tags said to sort it by (approximate) chronological order.
The question I have is, should the categories be sorted that way too? Or should Literature and Films take priority and be sorted at the top, regardless of alphabetical order?
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectHow do you alphabetize the Real Life section? Is it by the examples' subject?

Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI feel like those should be alphabetical, because of how loose the Disney "franchise" is.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Yeah, alphabetical order would probably be the best solution.

Kirby is awesome.I hollered the thread to include this tag that's added once examples have been alphabetized:

I've just added World of Funny Animals to the cleanup list. Bear in mind some folders are meatier than others.

I just recreated the St. ♡ Dragon Girl page and I how I wondering how it should alphabetized. I don't any applicable guidelines on How to Alphabetize Things but a quick google suggests that St. names should be alphabetized as if the saint part was spelled out so I tried doing that. That's fine, right?
