I have several ideas that I might put on TLP related to weather preferences, but I'm not sure how I'd go about it.

Basically, if it was four separate tropes, it'd be "Loves the Heat", "Hates the Heat", "Loves the Cold" and "Hates the Cold". I know by themselves they're not tropes, but I've seen them used in gags, giving a whole species one of the preferences, and other such storytelling purposes. I'll give you two examples of each concept:

  • Loves the Heat:
    • In Star Trek, the Cardassians prefer higher temperatures and they're often seen going to saunas.
    • The titular character in the Claude the Cat PSA's is shown worshipping a heater and it's shown that, while he warns viewers to be safe with their electric blankets, he's also quite fond of electric blankets.

  • Hates the Heat:
    • In Fungus the Bogeyman, the Bogey people hate the idea of warmth so much that some of them are even afraid of it, and they try their best to not even be remotely warm.
    • In the Songdrops song "The Summertime Song", the heat is one of the many given reasons the singer hates summertime.

  • Loves the Cold:
    • In Frozen, all the heroes love snowy weather, but this goes double for Elsa, who has ice powers and isn't affected by hypothermia.
    • In an episode of Alphablocks, when it snows, they all sing and skate and have fun.

  • Hates the Cold:
    • In the What's New, Scooby-Doo? episode "There's No Creature Like Snow Creature", Velma wears so many layers she looks round and acts grumpy during the ski trip.
    • In the What's with Andy? episode "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow", Jen complains about having to take a walk on a snowy day despite dressing appropriately, even going so far as calling it torture.

So are these viable? Should they be one draft? What do you think is the best course of action?

There might be something viable here, but try to find patterns beyond "character likes temperature". Is there a specific theme about what this preference says about them, or how it's used in the work, or something?

Perhaps if it's a species or society-wide examples, it can say something about their physiology and choice of things (food, clothing, etc)

Agreed. Also, my lumper two cents: consider if it’s worth making four separate tropes vs. a more general “temperature preference” trope. What are the splitworthy differences between each?

I don't know. I considered making it one, but I didn't know what to call it.

Simply "Temperature Preference" could work?

Here's a hint: if you can't think of any examples, it's not a trope.

But I did think of examples. Why are you telling me this?
