TRS Broadcasting Issue

I mean, sure; I didn't even know how center-alignment worked until now.

Bumping this again to note that Bi The Way and now Acceptable Targets were posted about on ATT in hopes of improving participation. I did think it worked for the former (in that there was a lot more people who usually vote in crowners, even if they didn't participate directly in the discussion, but they may have been informed too late — the crowner was already going for some time).

Granted, we're planning to make a second crowner for that thread, so they'll have the chance to vote this time.

I tried it with "World of Cardboard" Speech yesterday but it doesn't seem much happened. Maybe I should have waited until we had a crowner or something.

Honestly, maybe instead of making single posts for specific threads, we can make bulk-posts for any threads in need of more discussion, like "The TRS threads for Trope, Trope, and Trope need some more discussion" or something.

The bulletin idea on the main page is still a good idea The show case for news tropes on the hub page works pretty well in getting attention and edits.. But dunno if its feasible right now so Ask the Tropers will work in the mean time I suppose.

I think a bigger question is whether it belongs there. The main page is reader facing, it's not really meant to host purely editor facing information. Most readers are not interested in the under-the-hood proceedings.

To be honest, I think the TRS banner on trope pages is a good compromise in trying to attract/notify people while not being too intrusive. I feel like it using AC markup is pretty tacky though, I don't think readers are going to like an all-caps warning on top of the page and it's unlikely to make it more enticing for editors.

As for the main page, I have no opinion on that, but it already alerts readers to pretty under the hood stuff like recent edits and TLP.

The banners were already discussed and moderator approved; it's a little too late now. We're just trying to do what the site's own coding used to do anyway; if it was unnecessary in the first place, why implement it at all?

As I said, I'm fine with banners, I'm just against using AC for them as I think it looks tacky for an all-caps warning to be on top of the page, like Reality Ensues (I'm fine with AC being used for work separation when folders are not needed, though, but not there). Would it be acceptable to remove the AC markup for those that have it?

I think ATT threads are a good idea for threads for big tropes that will require a major clean up effort or changes to site culture (i.e. Bi The Way and Acceptable Targets). I don't think we should do them for every TRS thread though, that's just clutter.

So the bulletin did give some attention to the Hair Decorations cleanup project so it will be nice to use it more often.

I kinda wish we hadn't forgotten about it during the Bi The Way debacle. Would've come in real handy, but it's too late now.

Bulletins work best when they aren't too common and are thematically varied. Otherwise alarm fatigue/boringness set in. Because of this, there was a strong presumption on the moderator side to not use them for cleanup requests.

Back in the Eddie days we often used bulletins to advertise forum games or other fun things. We don't do anymore, and I am concerned that if bulletins are reduced to be broadcasts of sausage-making, people won't pay attention to them anymore.

Oh yeah I remember that used the bulletein board to advertise fun stuff. Sad those are a thing of the past.

I guess the bulletins would have to be used sparingly so people won't get burned out.

Or use them to announce TRS decisions of the week? So it's not an outright call for help, but they know the possibility for helping is there, and it might cut down on linking that derails dewicking efforts for big tropes like the aforementioned Bi The Way.

Hell, I'd accept the big TRS threads of the month even; the ones that are tackling big projects, need a lot of feedback, or might change wiki culture.

Yeah, I feel like Bi The Way should get an announcement, since it had over 5000 wicks when we started dewicking it. It was a very widely used "trope" that a lot of people probably still think exists.

Looking through older threads, and I think Your Cheating Heart, which was voted to rename/convert to Infidelity Index, warrants an announcement with over 6k wicks. I guess it would have to be the dewicking kind, though, as the consensus to do so has held for a while, but it's such a big project.

You used to be able to get badges for things. I think a wick cleaner badge would be a nice incentive.

We used to give out cleaner badges (for free) to people known for wiki I used to have one.

There was a badge shop where you can spend real money to get this currency called "tropies" to buy badges. It was closed down because of low sales.
