Love the image but Lu Meng is Chinese and not a Samurai, so I think we should try and avoid Interchangeable Asian Cultures here.

I quite like that.

The trope is the specific hairstyle, not a samurai with a ponytail, so I think the current image is fine.

Description focuses on it as an indication of Japanese heritage.

I like 3, but can we crop it so the focus is more on the hair and not on the moon and flower backdrop?

I don't like 3. This hairstyle is quite usual among women, so that picture shows a female samurai who happens to have a ponytail. Using a male character would convey the idea better that the hairstyle is specific to / more usual among samurai. I personally like 6.2.

I think I'd prefer a less exaggerated hairstyle. This picture of Mitsurugi is good if it absoltely has to be an actual samurai.

Yeah I like that. I can see the Exaggerated Trope issue in this case but I'm fine with it.

The bad cutjob around that is horrid in Darkmode.

I disagree on that. And this isnt just Samurai, its the mentality, look, outfit and basically everything about them. Focusing WAY too much on the fact that it is a Ponytail.

My vote is still 3, the outfit is basically a checklist of common samurai items and outfit. But this maybe?◊
